There is an interesting (to me) aspect of the AoT universe that gets glossed over a lot, and that’s the glut of resources implied by the fact that all of humanity is essentially living under siege.

We know that food is insufficient, and citizens must occasionally be sacrificed in order to provide for the rest, so where is Dot Pixis getting his unending supplies of hootch?

The man more or less lives with his hand on his flask and has no qualms about hitting said flask right in the middle of a super serious conversation. I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with that, but all things considered, maybe you should use some of that grain to make bread instead.

2. Cana Alberona – Fairy Tail

That said, Dot Pixis could take some notes from Cana. Now, this girl knows how to keep hydrated. I think it would be easier to count the scenes where she is not drinking, although that isn’t slowing her down much. In fact, it isn’t slowing her down at all.

I can’t help but feel a little sad for the poor thing; it must cost her a fortune to get a little buzz on since she seems almost completely impervious to the effects of alcohol. Maybe she’s like Bender and would actually suffer from a lack of drinking instead?

Gokusen is a fun anime about a young teacher named Kumiko Yamaguchi, who has a big secret: she comes from a yakuza family! Despite her tough background, she’s passionate about teaching and helps her students deal with their problems. As she bonds with her class, they learn valuable lessons about friendship, loyalty, and standing up for what’s right.

In a similar vein to Yakuza Fiancé, Gokusen has a romance at its core, showcasing strong female characters who are affiliated with a gang.

4. Black Lagoon

Black Lagoon is about a team of pirate mercenaries known as the Lagoon Company, working in the wild waters of Southeast Asia in the 1990s. Led by Dutch, the crew includes Revy, a skilled gunfighter, Benny, the tech whiz, and Rock, a former salaryman who now handles negotiations. They’re based in the crime-filled city of Roanapur and take on risky jobs with different criminal groups, leading to lots of action and excitement.

Both Black Lagoon and Yakuza Fiancé showcase powerful females linked to the underworld. To make it even more interesting, there are many unpredictable characters.

5. The Future Diary

Yukiteru Amano is a quiet kid whose diary can tell the future. As he gets pulled into a dangerous game with other diary owners, things get wild when he teams up with Yuno Gasai, a girl who’s super obsessed with him and will do anything to keep him safe.

Just like Mirai Nikki keeps fans hooked with its female yandere, Yakuza Fiancé grabs attention by showing a male yandere in a fun and chaotic relationship. Also, the anime is quite violent, which is something Yakuza Fiancé’s fans will be accustomed to.

6. Nisekoi

Raku Ichijou is just a regular high school student trying to avoid his yakuza family’s drama while searching for his childhood friend. But when he’s forced into a fake relationship with Chitoge Kirisaki, the daughter of a rival gang leader, things get messy fast. Now, he has to juggle romance and rivalry while dealing with unexpected twists in his love life.

In both stories, the main characters come from opposing groups destined to marry, creating tension in their relationships. But while Raku and Chitoge have a relationship full of funny misunderstandings, Yoshino and Kirishima’s situation is way more intense and serious.

7. Kakuriyo: Bed & Breakfast for Spirits

Kakuriyo: Bed & Breakfast for Spirits follows Aoi Tsubaki, a young woman who finds herself in a hidden realm where spirits and yokai live after her grandfather’s passing. To repay her family’s debt, she works at a traditional inn for supernatural beings, where she meets all sorts of magical creatures and uncovers secrets about her family’s past.

Aoi’s journey in Kakuriyo mirrors Yoshino’s in Yakuza Fiancé, as both face the pressure of arranged circumstances. That said, they both showcase their strength by standing up for themselves and refusing to be mere pawns in someone else’s game.

8. Inu x Boku SS

Inu x Boku SS centers around Ririchiyo, a cold, guarded girl who moves into a mansion for people with supernatural backgrounds. Her bodyguard, Soushi, is fiercely loyal and always looking out for her, even when she tries to keep her distance.

Their hesitant romance and personality clashes are a lot like Yoshino’s experience, learning to trust someone while dealing with their differences.

9. Spy x Family

Spy x Family follows elite spy Twilight, who takes on a top-secret mission that requires him to “create” a family. To maintain his cover, he adopts a young girl, Anya, who secretly has telepathic powers, and marries Yor, an assassin who’s hiding her true identity.

20. Hope

Who says that shoujo can’t be dark? While we are usually used to lighthearted romance shoujo, Hope is anything but that.

14. Akumetsu

Akumetsu is a dark and violent seinen manga with a complex plot. To many, including me, Akumetsu is what Death Note wishes to be. That being said, this manga is full of brutal killings and violence, so it’s not for everyone.

In this manga, Shou, a vigilante, seeks to reform the corrupt Japanese government through acts of terrorism, guided by his “One man, One kill” code of action.

Needless to say, for those seeking an adrenaline-fueled story with a gritty undertone and a complex moral dilemma, Akumetsu might be an interesting read.

We are back in the romance genre to lighten the mood a bit. Sweat and Soap follows a self-conscious Asako who works at a soap company, relying on their products to hide her sweat and odor. When a developer compliments her unique scent, they develop a surprising romance.

Inspired by real-life Southeast Asian pirates and the action-comedy of Tarantino and Hong Kong cinema, Rei Hiroe crafted the world of Black Lagoon. The manga takes place in a dark world and doesn’t shy away from the harsh realities.

Black Lagoon is about a boring office worker, Rock, who gets kidnapped by a crew of wild mercenaries in Southeast Asia. Stuck with them, he ditches his dull life for a crazy adventure.

9. Fruits Basket

Some anime are really good at making you feel things, and Fruits Basket is one of them. It handles sensitively mature themes like abuse, loneliness, depression, and toxic relationships. Moreover, the series doesn’t dwell on graphic details and instead mixes them with heartwarming moments.

Fruits Basket follows an orphan called Tohru Honda who ends up living with the mysterious Sohma family, unaware they’re cursed to transform into the zodiac animals!

8. Oshi no Ko

Being an idol is a dream of many people, particularly the younger ones. However, those who choose this difficult career path are bound to discover sooner or later the dark side of fame, the exploitation of young talents, and the sacrifices made for success.

Oshi no Ko’s premise doesn’t stand out at first. It’s a story about the reincarnation of two deceased people, a doctor and a sick girl, who are both huge fans of a beautiful idol, Ai Hoshino. The twist? They are reborn as her children.

With that being said, the manga blends the idol genre with mystery and drama, adding a grim flavor to the story.

After things go wrong, he’s framed as a criminal and left for dead. A kind monk saves him and gives him a new name: Musashi Miyamoto. This is the start of Musashi’s journey.

Often praised for breathtaking art, thought-provoking themes, and compelling character development, it’s surprising that not even one studio has tried to adapt it. Unfortunately, Vagabond has been on hiatus for 8 years, with the last chapter released on May 21, 2015.

1. Berserk

Berserk is the king of mature manga. Its violence, complex story, and tragedy make it unsuitable for younger viewers. On the other hand, adult audiences can easily appreciate this masterpiece’s complexity and beauty. According to many, the anime adaptations, particularly the 2017 series, haven’t always captured the full brilliance of the manga.

Our protagonist, Guts, is a lone warrior wielding a giant sword who wanders a bleak world filled with monsters and human cruelty. Haunted by a dark past, he fights for survival and vengeance, searching for meaning in a world seemingly devoid of hope.

Although its creator, Kentaro Miura, passed away in 2021, Miura’s close friend, Kouji Mori, the only person entrusted with the entire Berserk narrative, will take the reins and finish the story.

What is the most culturally diverse anime you have ever seen? Anime with diverse characters can be hard to find but they are out there. As the genre has grown, both the audience and the authors have diversified. Today, multicultural casts in anime are becoming much more frequent than they were in past years.

We follow a cast of fun, colorful, and nicely developed characters through a roller-coaster of an anime with its ups and downs that keep your eyes glued for the next episode. We also got the cute and lovable BigFoot mechanic, Miyuki Ayukawa.

I love anime. You love anime. Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken! is a love letter to animation. The story is about completely different people whose love for anime brings them together, making anime, talking about anime, and thinking about anime. The details of storyboarding, animation, sound design, voice acting, and management get illustrated in detail. I learned a lot about anime production by watching this.

Yuri!!! On ICE

The most recent anime show that captured the hearts of many viewers is Yuri on Ice!!! (a.k.a that ice skating anime.) Heartwarming story aside, the series heavily relies on diversity. Not to mention, it’s one of the most favorite anime shows.

This is a show that can make any fan of the action genre glued to their screen with its colorful cast of characters, gore, action, and gun show with bullets flying all over the screen. It wastes little time showing the gloom and doom of our characters’ occupations. At the same time, it also finds ways to make the series relaxing through some heartwarming moments and comedic scenes.

Cowboy Bebop

Now let’s wrap up the list with Cowboy Bebop. It’s known to be the first anime title broadcast on Adult Swim in the United States. It has such a portrayal of racial diversity that fans love (us included!)

Kino’s Journey takes us through its lands and venturing through various countries and places, encountering different kinds of customs, from the morally gray to tragic and fascinating. The protagonists meet many people: some who live to work, some to make others happy, and some who live to chase their dreams. Thus, in every country they visit, there is always something to learn from the way people carry out their lives.

Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma

Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma is an anime about cooking battles. The story revolves around Soma Yukihira who wants to become a cook and surpass his father in cooking.

When he’s sent to Tootsuki Culinary Academy, an elite cooking school where only 10 percent of the students graduate. The series has a large cast of diverse characters all of which are memorable, quirky, and interesting.

Run with the Wind

Run with the Wind is an anime with an emotionally-charged journey, great character development, a story, and a diverse cast. It was so uplifting, that I wanted to go out and run. It tackles some social issues and looks at the importance of unity and teamwork in a group.

Appare-Ranman!

Another amazing original work is anime by P.A works. This time it comes in the form of steampunk racing anime. It’s a wild, wacky and entertaining journey with Appare and his cohorts as they race from Los Angeles to New York for prize money to return home to Japan. Unfortunately, things aren’t as smooth sailing as they’d like.

Great Pretender

Great Pretender follows the endeavors of Makoto alongside the cunning Laurent and his colorful associates in the world of international high-stakes fraud. It’s a great show, that’s not your typical crime thriller. Full of many exciting scenes, well-written characters, and a mature style targeted at older people or an adult audience.

Even though Hetalia Axis Powers episodes are shorts, you will be rewarded with some of the most adorably diverse anime characters while learning something about their nations. It is a series that despite its lack of plot still manages to be hilarious, idiotic, and clever all at the same time. It is also a good watch if you’re feeling a bit sad, and want some cheering up, offering a laugh or two.

My Hero Academia is a series inspired by American superhero comics, it has elements you will be accustomed to from the superhero genre like fights that are more tactically focused, being able to keep the audience on the edge of their seats, and having a wide range of characters with ridiculous but creative powers.

Carole & Tuesday. There is so much representation and diversity in the show´s cast. Plenty of characters of different races, gay characters, and even trans characters, which you don´t see a lot of in anime. They never dwell on it for too long or make a big deal out of it, it simply feels very natural.

Though an epic shounen series, it’s not just fighting that the show has to offer; you will find yourself laughing out loud numerous times throughout the series. From its many iconic and diverse characters to an exciting array of fights, there’s plenty to love with this show that spanned over 500 episodes and spin-offs.

Bleach is an amazing anime thanks to its over-the-top action scenes, supernatural themes, memorable large cast, humor, a ranking system for fighters, world-building, and beautiful art style.

With amazing fight scenes, David vs. Goliath moments, love, friendship, corruption, and betrayal.
