As fans who have seen hundreds of anime, there are not that many that made us stop and say, “Wow, this is something truly special.” That said, here are the top 20 anime series, chosen by a team of writers who’ve watched hundreds of anime across genres.
1. Hunter x Hunter
Hunter x Hunter may have its fair share of hiatuses, but both the manga and anime are still as popular as ever. While the anime might not be as big as Naruto or One Piece due to the frequent breaks, the story of the lovable hunter Gon searching for his long-lost father has solidified itself as one of the best shounen, even with the story still unfinished.
With rich worldbuilding, memorable characters, and masterfully crafted arcs that explore complex moral themes, Hunter x Hunter is definitely one of the best anime out there.
2. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood nails everything, ranging from badass action through real emotional punches to deep, thoughtful stuff, without ever feeling heavy. If there is a king of storytelling done right, this series easily takes the crown. The Elric brothers’ journey is filled with moral dilemmas and personal growth, set against a richly developed world. It strikes that sweet spot between laughs and serious moments, so you’re never bored.
Gintama is one of a kind. It’s stupidly funny one minute and then hits you with emotional gut-punches the next. It somehow juggles parody, chaos, and legit powerful storytelling without ever losing its heart.
The show is set in an alternate Edo period where aliens have invaded Earth, and samurai Gintoki Sakata takes on odd jobs with his friends to make ends meet, leading to hilarious and action-packed adventures.
4. Code Geass
Code Geass is one of those anime that really makes you think about everything, from morality to the choices the characters make. The idea of the MC getting the power to control people with his eyes sounds crazy at first, but it’s how the show digs into the actual consequences of that power that sets it apart. Loved by many, it’s not just about epic battles or awesome mecha action; it’s about strategy, scheming, and the gray area between good and bad.
The story is set in an alternate future where the Holy Britannian Empire has conquered Japan. Exiled prince Lelouch vi Britannia gains Geass, a power that lets him control anyone with his gaze, and uses it to lead a revolution as the masked vigilante Zero.
5. Made in Abyss
Made in Abyss looks super cute at first. The characters have that almost chibi-like art style, and it all seems kinda whimsical. But don’t let that fool you. Not only does it get dark quickly, but it also gets sad just as fast. The anime somehow mixes breathtaking, otherworldly beauty with some seriously gruesome moments, so you’re constantly torn between “wow” and “oh no.”
Set in a world where a massive, mysterious pit called the Abyss stretches deep into the earth, the story follows a brave girl named Riko who dreams of becoming a legendary Cave Raider like her mother. When she meets a strange robot boy named Reg, the two set off on a dangerous journey into the depths.
6. Attack on Titan
In a world besieged by giant humanoid creatures known as Titans, humanity’s remnants reside within massive walled cities. After a colossal Titan breaches the outer wall, young Eren Yeager vows to eradicate every Titan, joining the military to fight back.
Attack on Titan is the kind of series you show your friend when they say anime is just for kids. With its intense storyline and exploration of mature themes like freedom, oppression, and the human condition, it quickly proves otherwise. Not to mention, it has one of the best plot twists in anime history.
7. Samurai Champloo
Samurai Champloo is about samurai and katana fights. Do I really have to say more?
A mixture of both the past and present, its story is packed full of fillers, and that’s what made Samurai Champloo so great. Its journey, not necessarily the destination. The destination was great too, but the show does so much more than it needed to. Normally, mixing so many things into a plot could be bad, but Samurai Champloo does it wonderfully. And the traveling companions are like water and oil.
It’s a show for everyone. There’s plenty of great sword-slashing action, clever comedy, and a good share of moments that will tug at your heartstrings, often all at once.
8. Spy x Family
In Spy x Family, we meet Loid Forger, a top-tier spy who builds a fake family for a mission. He marries Yor, a kind woman who’s secretly an assassin, and adopts Anya, a telepathic girl who knows the truth but just wants a real family.
None of them know each other’s real identity (except Anya), and her reactions are comedy gold.
Spy x Family is universally loved by most people fortunate enough to come across it, and it’s not hard to see why. It’s funny, wholesome, stylish, and easy to get into, even if you don’t usually watch anime. It doesn’t rely on heavy lore, weird tropes, or anything confusing. Moreover, its English dub is surprisingly good.
9. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba
Among the newer anime, Demon Slayer (2019) stole the spotlight, and honestly, my heart too, with its gorgeous animation and emotional storytelling. The main guy might seem like your typical shounen hero at first, but that doesn’t take away from how beautifully built the world is or how powerful his journey feels. It’s packed with action, but it also hits hard emotionally in a way you don’t always expect.
In this anime, after demons slaughter his family and turn his sister Nezuko into one, Tanjiro Kamado joins the Demon Slayer Corps to avenge his family and find a cure for Nezuko.
10. March Comes in Like a Lion
The animation and soundtrack in this anime are amazing. It’s one of those series that is much more than it appears on the surface, with plenty of layers and depth.
March Comes in Like a Lion follows Rei Kiriyama, a young boy who loses his parents and sister in an accident. He is left to live with a family friend, where things take a darker turn, leading him to become a professional shogi player.
March Comes in Like a Lion is a powerful coming-of-age story about overcoming depression, and it really helped me understand myself a bit more. It even got me to try my hand at shogi, though I’m no Rei Kiriyama!
11. Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash
Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash is a unique anime that really felt realistic to me. We watched our characters go from 0 to not a 100, but they did get a bit better. With each of their interactions and the plot, I noticed this. I really felt like these were characters I would love to laugh, cry, and go on adventures with.
With a great story, characters, art, and sound, it really is a shame it was only 12 episodes. I’m still waiting patiently for a second season. Until then, I still go back now and then to watch the 12 episodes we have so far. With its large main cast, it was still able to balance between the group and the individuals, and that’s a very hard task to carry out.
12. 86
In a dystopian future, the Republic of San Magnolia claims to be fighting a war with drones, but the truth is that the oppressed “86” are forced to pilot mechs. The story follows Lena, a handler from the Republic, and Shin, a battle-hardened 86 soldier, as they slowly form a bond across the divide.
86 (2021)is one of the best newer anime out there, and fans are eagerly waiting for season 2 to be announced. While the description sounds bleak, 86 isn’t just grim; it has some genuinely beautiful, hopeful, and even tender moments that hit even harder because of all the darkness around them.
13. Kamisama Kiss
Nanami is a high school girl who’s down on her luck. Her dad ditches her, she’s broke, and she ends up homeless. But then she saves a weird guy from a dog, and he’s like, “Hey, you can have my house.” Totally normal… except that “house” turns out to be a shrine, and suddenly she’s a land god living with a grumpy yet handsome fox familiar.
Kamisama Kiss is sweet and funny, and it has actual relationship development. Not just endless flirting with no payoff. Those who like a sprinkle of fantasy, a sprinkle of mischief, and a whole lot of heart, Kamisama Kiss finely hits the spot.
14. KonoSuba
God’s Blessing on this Wonderful World! is very good too. It may look like any other RPG harem, but it is so much more than that.
It’s not a show trying to teach you any life lessons; it’s just a show full of entertainment, hilarious moments, and lightheartedness.

16. Fruits Basket
I’ve always loved both the Fruits Basket manga and the original 2001 anime, even though there were some differences. A heartwarming story, the series follows a girl who becomes entangled with a family cursed to transform into animals of the Chinese zodiac.
The 2019 remake takes things up a notch. It follows the manga much more closely, and you can tell that Natsuki Takaya was more involved this time around.
17. Bokura wa Minna Kawai-sou
Bokura wa Minna Kawai-sou is a great shoujo to watch that doesn’t seem rushed, especially with just 12 episodes.
The art and sound were amazing, and the characters were all so lovely and quirky (but in a good way). I really think everyone will see a bit of themselves in one of the characters.
My joy for this anime surprised me because I usually find romance anime not really my thing, but the love in this anime felt really believable and puts a spin on the usual boy meets girl, boy confesses his feelings, and they share a kiss. But it was different this time; the comedy and great characters really bring the story to life and make you love every moment of the anime.
18. Inuyasha
Of course, Inuyasha is my favorite. It was my first real anime, and I quickly fell in love with the story and the adorable hanyou (half-demon, half-human).
Now, Fairy Tail is one of those mainstream anime that you either love or hate. Personally, I loved the artwork and the many plotlines that kept things exciting. I can’t even count how many times I bawled my eyes out while watching this show.
Family and friendship are things everyone connects with, and they’re at the heart of a lot of shounen, with Fairy Tail being no exception. It’s exactly that bond between the fleshed-out characters that makes this series so great. Fairy Tail is one of those series I always recommend for newcomers since it’s easy to follow, filled with epic fights, goofy banter, and a wholesome theme.
20. Shugo Chara
Not many people know about this one, but I absolutely love it. As a kid, I related to it so much. It even gave me the courage to embrace being the “weird anime kid” in school and helped me feel less alone.
The artwork might be a bit odd (especially the eyes), but that doesn’t stop me from loving it. It’ll always hold a special place in my heart.

Some days are just harder than others. As an introvert, we all need an escape and anime can definitely bring that safe haven to us. Anime isn’t “just for kids” and can, at times, be darker and delve into some deeper issues. But when you need something light-hearted to make you laugh, these are my go-to animes for whenever I’m depressed or need a smile!
The best animes are the ones that make you feel something. They remind you of what it’s like to be a kid before depression and anxiety took over you. Anime has truly helped me so much in overcoming my own depression and anxiety, and I know it can help you as well!

15. Laid-Back Camp
The ultimate chill anime about a group of girls who love camping, Laid-Back Camp is like a warm cup of tea on a cold day. With serene landscapes and relaxing moments, whether it’s setting up tents or simply enjoying nature’s peace, this anime gives you all the cozy vibes you need.
When life feels heavy, these girls’ embrace of quiet joys is just what you need to lift your mood. Plus, you’ll get a new love for the outdoors!
14. The Disastrous Life of Saiki K.
Saiki K. is the comedy you never knew you needed. Saiki, a high school student with psychic powers, just wants to live a normal life, but his crazy classmates and insane situations keep getting in the way.
This anime is non-stop humor with a protagonist who’s ridiculously OP but just wants peace and quiet. The sheer randomness of his life will have you laughing in no time, making it the perfect anime for when you just need to escape and enjoy something completely absurd.
13. Kaguya-sama: Love is War
Kaguya-sama: Love is War is one of those romantic comedies that will literally have you laughing out loud. It’s about two high school geniuses, Kaguya and Miyuki, who are in love with each other but are too stubborn to confess. Instead, they engage in hilarious mind games to try and get the other to admit their feelings first.
The back-and-forth between them is both adorable and ridiculous, and it’ll have you grinning from ear to ear. No heavy drama here, just pure comedic gold.
12. Lucky Star
If you’re ever in need of pure, silly fun, Lucky Star is where it’s at. This slice-of-life anime follows a group of high school girls just living their everyday lives. The jokes are quirky, the characters are hilarious, and it’s totally carefree.
From ridiculous moments about food to totally random discussions, it’ll definitely lift your spirits without asking for too much emotional investment. It’s the kind of anime that reminds you how simple and silly life can be when you don’t sweat the small stuff.
11. One Punch Man
Sometimes, when life feels tough, you just need a superhero who’s chill and absolutely overpowered. Enter One Punch Man, where Saitama, the hero, can defeat any villain with a single punch. Sounds ridiculous, right? And it is, in the best way!
Watching Saitama casually save the day while being bored out of his mind will make you laugh and give you that needed boost. It’s fun, light, and packed with epic fights, but it’s also a reminder that not everything in life has to be taken so seriously.
10. K-On!
This anime is like a big, warm hug. No drama, no life-or-death plots—just a bunch of high school girls forming a band and eating cake in the clubroom a lot. Yui, the clumsy guitarist, is so adorable that you can’t help but smile.
Every episode is basically a serotonin booster, and if you’re feeling down, it’s the kind of light-hearted chaos you need. Music, friendship, and fluffy vibes all the way. 10/10 comfort anime, no notes.
9. My Ordinary Life
My Ordinary Life might have “ordinary” in the title, but it’s anything but ordinary. It’s completely random, like laugh-so-hard-you-cry kind of random. One second there’s a girl wrestling a deer, the next, a principal is flying through the air. The deadpan humor mixed with insane situations just works.
The show follows the daily antics of three high school friends—Yūko Aioi, Mio Naganohara, and Mai Minakami—and their interactions with an eight-year-old genius inventor, her robot caretaker, and a talking cat.
If you’re ever crying on the floor and need a reason to laugh again, this anime will totally pull you up. Trust me, it’s a mood.
8. Barakamon
Ughhh, this one hit me right in the soul. It’s about a grumpy calligrapher who escapes city life and ends up on a quiet island with a bunch of chaotic locals—including the most adorable little girl, Naru, who basically steals the show.
Barakamon is one of those shows that just feels calming. It’s got plenty of funny moments, but it also hits you with some meaningful lessons about life and growth. It’s the kind of anime that makes you smile and think at the same time.
7. My Roommate is a Cat
This one’s for all my introvert-anxiety besties. The main guy loses his parents and suddenly ends up living with a stray cat named Haru. What makes this anime super special is that you get to hear both the human’s and the cat’s perspective. In fact, it’s the simple moments they share that are so uplifting.
All in all, it’s sweet, quiet, and sometimes emotional, but in the best way. Perfect for rainy days and curling up with a blanket (and maybe your own cat 🐾).
6. Komi Can’t Communicate
Komi is the shy queen of our dreams. She literally can’t talk to anyone and yet somehow ends up becoming the school’s most admired girl. Watching her slowly open up and make friends is so wholesome that it hurts. Not to mention, while it tackles serious themes, it still maintains a funny and lighthearted tone with a major feel-good energy.
The art is beautiful, the humor is on point, and the whole thing just makes you root for her so hard.
5. InuYasha
InuYasha was the first real anime and manga series that I read. I quickly fell in love with the characters from feudal and modern Japan. It follows Kagome, a human girl, who is transported to feudal Japan, where she meets Inuyasha, a half-demon trapped by a sacred arrow. Together, they search for the shattered pieces of the Shikon no Tama, a jewel that grants wishes, while battling enemies and making new friends along the way.
This is a great anime series if you want something cute with a bit of the older Sailor Moon type of feel. It’s nostalgic, and the romance and laughter will keep you smiling for a while. Not to mention, it inspired so many great fanfictions!
4. Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir
I just discovered this anime last year when I was going through anime music videos. Depression had hit me hard, and I decided to give this anime a chance. By the first episode, I was hooked! And I do mean, soul-consuming, forget everything else hooked.
In this show, Marinette and Adrien, armed with magical Miraculous jewels, transform into Ladybug and Chat Noir to protect Paris from akumas sent by the villain Hawkmoth, all while keeping their identities a secret.
This anime is just super cute. The second season was just released, and I’m still hopelessly waiting for the next episode. The best(and most frustrating) part of the show is that Marinette is in love with Adrien, Adrien is in love with Ladybug, and Chat Noir loves Ladybug. They’re basically in love with each other, and it’s adorable and laugh-out-loud funny. Not to mention, it’ll make you throw your pillows at the tv screen.
3. Shugo Chara
Shugo Chara was one of the first anime I watched in high school. The story centers around Amu Hinamori, an elementary school girl with a “cool and spicy” exterior, who wishes for the courage to be her true self. The next morning, she discovers three colorful eggs that hatch into Guardian Characters: Ran, Miki, and Su.
Amu’s Guardian Characters help her discover her true self and fulfill her dreams. As she struggles with her “would-be” selves, Amu learns to “chara-nari” (character transform) or “character change” for special powers, both offensive and practical. Eventually, Amu is recruited as the “Joker” to search for X Eggs and X Characters, corrupted forms of people’s dreams, which the Guardians aim to purify.
Shugo Chara will give you all the feels and remind you of what it was like to be a child again—before depression took over, when you still knew what you wanted to do and who you wanted to be in life.
2. Himouto! Umaru Chan
I’m sure you’ve already seen the pictures for this one. Basically, Umaru Doma is considered the perfect person, but once she’s home, she turns into a lazy, selfish chibi character that just games and watches anime all day while eating snacks and drinking cola. Honestly, she sounds exactly like me!
So, if you ever feel like you’re overwhelmed with adult responsibilities, watching Umaru embrace her lazy side without any worries is sure to bring a smile to your face.
1. Ouran High School Host Club
I just HAD to include Ouran High on this list. When I first watched this, it captured my attention quickly. Basically, Haruhi Fujioka goes to Ouran High on scholarships while most everyone else is just a rich kid that goes. She goes into Music Room 3 and accidentally breaks a vase in front of the eccentric members she meets there, and they make her work it off as their errand boy. I say, boy, because, since she has a tomboyish figure and short hair, they mistake her as a male instead of a female at first.
After talking with a friend about good beginner anime shows, Blue Exorcist came up in our conversation. I realized that I haven’t done a review on it and thought it would be great to go ahead and start. When I put the show on to watch though, I realized it was much harder to watch it to do a review rather than just for fun. But isn’t that the whole point with ANIME BLOGGING?
Now, it could have been that I was running on less than 5 hours of sleep and started watching at 1 am but I digress…
Blue Exorcist (Ao no Exorcist)…watch it or leave it?
I found more things to criticize in the first 5 episodes than I did when I first watched a few years ago. BUT…I do still love this anime and I DO recommend it for people just starting their anime journey. Just want to go ahead and point that out since this post will seem like I don’t like the show and I do!
Blue Exorcist Cliché’s Are Everywhere
If you like anime with demonic elements and conspiracies of the highest order (basically every anime) and kids with superpowers, then I highly recommend this series. It has a lot of elements that make every action/adventure anime likable. You have your typical carefree and dense main character, Rin Okumura, who is born with an affliction that is willing to put his life on the line for his family and friends despite having a tough childhood. He is commonly paired with his super-intelligent and logical twin brother, Yukio.
The rest of Rin’s friends are there for comic relief and moral support. Mephisto, who acts as Rin’s guardian, is always funny, carefree, witty, and resourceful. One of those aloof characters that the audience has a hard time figuring out his intentions. Is he a good guy or a bad guy? Of course, there’s a big-breasted supporter of Rin that cares for him deeply. Which is another cliché but anyway.
While it doesn’t entirely match the manga I fell in love with, I think the adaptation does the series justice and adheres to the different audiences that anime caters to.
As many people say, Blue Exorcist is heavily clichéd in many aspects so I might as well point them out first…this list was compiled by the fans on Reddit and I have to say that I agree with every single one of them!

A group of people who are seemingly unfriendly at first(+1),
which one of them took position as the protagonist’s rival(+1).
The group grew closer to the protagonist but become hostile more than ever when they learned of the protagonist’s secret(+1),
and so the protagonist must try to convince them 1 each at a time(+1).
They were very cliche, even when fleshed out. Some developed more than others, but nobody grew up too much. They all stayed their same old selves, with their same old goals and things. But they were entertaining somehow. The cliches are something that anime fans are either going to love or hate.
Maybe because I was watching with the intent of reviewing as I mentioned above, I found more things to criticize. When I do a review of something that I just watched for the first time, it tends to have more positives than negatives but I think this article might lean more towards the negative? This is conflicting since I did enjoy the show and recommend it to everyone.
One of my favorite episodes is actually when they find Kuro, who was Father Shiro Fujimoto’s former familiar. For one thing, Kuro is insanely cute and I think he deserves his own point, I think the episode shows that fighting and beating everything up isn’t always the answer. Sometimes you just need to share a drink, haha!

After much waiting, my favorite magical girls are back with the next arc of the Sailor Moon remake. This time they created the latest season as a two-part film series. While they have initially disappointed me with the first season of the remake, the animation studios have been constantly improving as the series goes on, so I was excited to see what they had in store.

Synopsis
Sailor Moon Eternal follows the Dream arc from the manga. After witnessing a solar eclipse, Chibiusa struggles to get home to her original timeline and receives a call for help from a Pegasus called Helios. The arrival of the Dead Moon Circus group also spells trouble for the Sailor Guardians as they get attacked one by one through Nightmares.

Story
While I absolutely love the series and the underlying messages of friendship and love Sailor Moon continues to share with its audience, the story confuses the hell out of me.
But let’s start with what I understand. The premise of this arc was simple, each ‘episode’ involves one Sailor Guardian getting in trouble with the Dead Moon Circus members as their insecurities get targeted and used against them. As they get weakened, an inner self provides them with the motivation and power to overcome the enemy, transform and win the day. This gives us more insight into each character and their personal struggles. So far, so good.
At the same time, there’s an overarching storyline happening between Usagi, Chibiusa, Mamoru, and Helios. As Helios is connected to Mamoru, when Elysion was attacked and Helios imprisoned by Queen Nehellenia, Mamoru falls ill as a black rose forms in his lungs. Helios sends his spiritual form to the trio seeking help from his ‘maiden’, yet he seems to save their asses each time they get in trouble. He does all this while being imprisoned. Who’s supposed to be saving who here?
I also never got to understand the constant switching of timelines and how they’re connected in the first place. It doesn’t help that Usagi and Chibiusa pretty much share the same names (Serenity, Little Serenity, etc.).
Little Serenity and Serenity
The power dynamics are also kinda inconsistent. In some fights teamwork was effective and in others, everyone is rendered immobile, and one Guardian conquers the day (e.g., Sailor Venus’ fight). Along with the over-the-top names of attack moves (Moon Gorgeous Meditation anyone), it was pretty hard to take those scenes seriously. While I expected that’s just the nature of the show, I’d have appreciated it if they kept them more consistent.
Another thing that bugged me was the scene when Mamoru and Usagi disappeared and Hotaru and Chibi ran off to fight the enemy. Why is everyone else standing around like that? And why it took them so long to notice the two kids are gone? I felt like that scene was kind of unnecessary and just didn’t make the Sailor Guardians look good.
I loved seeing the Outer Guardians again in the second film though. I was sad they made no appearance in the first film, so I was glad they took the time to cover their story at the beginning of the second.
Despite my rants, the films ended well, and they did a great intro into the next arc with the appearance of the Sailor Quartet. The Stars arc is the one I remembered the most from the original series and while it confused me to no end, I’m excited to see it again!
Characters
Sailor Moon: I feel like we got to see more of her mature side in the films, which I appreciated. I love Sailor Moon when she’s serious and imparting thoughtful messages. She’s portraying more of that elegance Neo-Queen Serenity possesses. The part where Mamoru turned her away coldly made me sympathize with her. Despite that, she continued to show concern for Mamoru and understood his predicament.
PallaPalla: Out of the Amazoness Quartet, I found PallaPalla the most interesting. She’s definitely the most active out of the four at least, coming up with all sorts of ways to torture the Guardians. Even though she was an enemy, I found her adorable and cute, so I was glad to see her become Sailor Pallas. I’m looking forward to seeing more of her later in the series.
Sailor Chibi: Chibiusa plays a central role in this arc, as she continues to struggle with her desire to become like Sailor Moon. Despite the ridiculous ruminations and her falling in love with Helios at the drop of a hat, it’s easy to forget that she’s just a kid figuring things out in an unfamiliar world. I’m glad that the appearance of the Sailor Quartet gives her some hope for the future that awaits her.
Art and animation
The art and animation are out of this world, pun intended. The transformation sequences are *chef’s kiss*. This is light years better than the transformation sequence of the first season, I’m so in love. And when Sailor Moon became Eternal Sailor Moon, I felt so emotional I think I cried. This was definitely something chibi me would’ve loved years ago. I have no qualms with the animation, and it was clean throughout the films. I’m so glad they took the movie route this time. I’m curious what they’ll do for the next season.
Final Score
As a childhood anime favorite, part of my love for Sailor Moon is because of the nostalgia trip it takes me every time I watch it. The art and animation have also upped the enjoyment I feel towards this show. But while the concept of the Dreams arc is beautiful, I felt that the execution could be better or maybe be less confusing. I’m not sure if that’s a complaint to the manga or the adaptation, but that’s just me. Anyway, I give the Sailor Moon Eternal films a solid 7/10.

Tanjuro Kamado was a quiet, calculating, forgiving and respectable person. He didn’t like to stand out so maybe that is why not much has been said about his earlier life, before marrying his wife Kie Kamado and having children Tanjiro Kamado, Nezuko Kamado, Takeo Kamado, Hanako Kamado, Shigeru Kamado, and Rokuta Kamado. (suspicious and that’s a lot of kids!!!)
He would regularly lecture Tanjiro about life. But even with his peaceful approach to life, he would show his immense physical prowess in saving his family from danger and they really loved him.
In his last years, he was a wise but sick and frail man. He died before the slaughter of his wife and youngest children by Muzan Kibutsuji.
Was Tanjiro Kamado’s Father A Demon Slayer?
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba is an anime that has created quite a following and that means a lot of fan theories and questions about the series have emerged. And one of them I think everyone has been curious about was if Tanjiro Kamado’s father, Tanjurou, is a Hashira/Demon Slayer or not. Especially after watching a certain episode.
Where Muzan has a flashback and we see a shadow resembling a grown-up Tanjiro with a similar scar standing over a defeated Muzan. That would explain why Muzan paid his family a visit after his father’s death, or why Tanjiro’s father is shown dancing the Dance of Sun/Fire God.

So who was this mysterious shadowy man and was Tanjuro Kamado a demon slayer? Well, to answer the question… No Tanjuro (Tanjiro’s and Nezuko’s father) was not a demon slayer. When Muzan Kibutsuji sees Tanjiro’s Hanafuda earrings, he sends two of his subordinates after the young Demon Slayer. Why was Muzan shaken by them and what’s the connection of the Hanafuda earrings with the Demon Slayer world?

Ms. vampire who lives in my neighborhood. is an anime that does not take itself too seriously that makes fun of itself and otaku culture rather than a serious plot. It will definitely put a smile on your face, that is a relaxing and refreshing take for a theme with a usually bloody darker tone.
18. Noblesse: Awakening

Noblesse: Awakening was a long overdue anime for fans of the manhwa series of the same name and was a setup for the later 13 episodes anime television series that would come out 4 years later.
Plot Summary
He awakens. For 820 years he has slumbered with no knowledge of humanity’s advancements and scientific achievements. The land which he once knew has become an unfamiliar place with new technologies, attitudes, and lifestyles.
Cadis Etrama Di Raizel, Rai, while seeking to familiarize himself with this era, somehow locates a loyal servant of his, Frankenstein, who is currently the principal of a South Korean high school. Rai decides that this high school would be the perfect place to help him learn about the unknown world.
He enrolls, and suddenly becomes the friend of Shinwoo, an immature teenager who is also a master martial artist. But this unknown world is no safer than the old, and the dignified, bewildered, technologically illiterate Rai finds himself caught up in adventures both hilarious and dangerous.
Noblesse: Awakening is a 30 minute long ONA that is quite enjoyable to watch that felt like a bishie vampire anime series to me at least but without the annoying parts and made me try out the manhwa. It definitely has a bit for everyone.

Servamp is a vampire anime that seems like your usual shounen anime but it was more than that. It is an anime that strangely grew on me a bit.

While Mahiru’s personal philosophy is one of non-intervention, he soon becomes embroiled in an ancient, altogether surreal conflict between vampires and humans.
Servamp is a beautifully coloured series with surprising depth now and then in the story, while still being amusing and funny all at once. It’s enjoyable.

Kizumonogatari Part 1: Tekketsu is a three-part movie and all of them are great and it’s an anime movie that has all the artistic concepts, the quality animation, great music, some hilarious fan service sprinkled on top and of course the amazing plot.

Koyomi Araragi, a second-year high school student at Naoetsu High School, befriends Tsubasa Hanekawa, the top honours student at his school. Tsubasa mentions a rumour about a “blonde vampire” that has been sighted around their town recently. Koyomi, who is usually anti-social, takes a liking to Tsubasa’s down-to-earth personality. That evening, Koyomi encounters this rumoured vampire: she is Kiss-shot Acerola-orion Heart-under-blade, also known as the “King of Apparitions.” The blonde, golden-eyed vampire cries out for Koyomi to save her as she lies in a pool of her own blood, all four of her limbs having been cut off by three vampire hunters. Kizumonogatari Part 1: Tekketsu is a vampire anime that’s a masterpiece in every form of the word. It serves as a prequel to the main series Bakemonogatari. If you haven’t seen this movie, then give it a chance, you won’t be disappointed.
15. Blood Lad

Blood Lad is a vampire-themed anime that is less grim and more entertaining. Handling and balancing its plot of vampires, other supernatural and fanservice well.
Plot Summary
Staz is the vampire boss of a section of the demon world, but he has little interest in human blood. He’s more infatuated with Japanese culture. When he learns that Yanagi Fuyumi, a Japanese teenage girl, accidentally wanders into the demon city, he jumps to the occasion. However, while Staz deals with an intruder on his turf, the oblivious Fuyumi is killed by a monster and becomes a wandering ghost. The disappointed Staz vows to her he will bring Fuyumi back to life.
Blood Lad doesn’t give too much away, leaving us the viewers to make the connections and fill in the dots between characters and places which really adds to its mysterious level and leaves a lot of unanswered questions. Even though it is a simple and fun show to watch.

Vampire Princess Miyu is a vampire anime though seeming repetitive at first glance is a series with brilliant character study, action, and a perfect moody dark feel to it.

Vampire Princess Miyu’s plot was very realistic showing how not everyone got what they deserved or wanted. The art style and soundtracks are pretty amazing too, but this anime is definitely for the patient among us.
13. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba is another amazing shounen vampire anime on our list that has a fantastic animation. An excellent series with an easy-to-follow plot and not full of overly complex emotional characters.
Plot Summary
Tanjiro is the eldest son in a family that has lost its father. Tanjiro visits another town one day to sell charcoal but ends up staying the night at someone else’s house instead of going home because of a rumour about a demon that stalks a nearby mountain at night. When he goes home the next day, tragedy is waiting for him.
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba is not your typical themed type of vampire, that may suffer from some pacing and poor character development but despite all of that is hugely entertaining, especially for vampire anime fans who love their aesthetics.
12. Black Blood Brothers

Black Blood Brothers is a short, hilarious and action-packed vampire anime series that didn’t leave you guessing and speculating on fan theories in a good way.
Plot Summary
During a war called the Hong Kong Crusade, an Old Blood vampire, Jiro Mochizuki, a.k.a. the Silver Blade, fought and defeated the Kowloon king and most of the Kowloon Children. Ten years later, Jiro heads to Hong Kong with his younger brother, Kotaro Mochizuki, hoping to reach The Special Zone, a thriving secret city where Vampires live- (which is separate from the human civilized parts of the city). They soon realize that a plan to infiltrate the Special Zone is being hatched by the Kowloon Children survivors. As they travel to The Special Zone, Jiro encounters enemies from the past and new threats that may endanger the safety of the Special Zone including the citizens. Black Blood Brothers is an anime that was adapted straight from the light novel, it is fun and easy to follow the story, and it has vampires and cute adorable Kotarou. You should try it.

Chibi Vampire Karin is a good vampire anime for fans of the theme that also like romantic comedy anime, it’s the best of both worlds for them.
Plot Summary
Karin is a cute little girl who also is a vampire… with a twist. Once a month, she experiences intense bleeding from her nose – we’re talking gushers! She’s a vamp with blood to spare, so rather than stealing blood from humans she actually gives her blood to them. If done right, this can be an extremely positive experience that benefits the victim as much as the vampire. The problem is that Karin never seems to do things right!
Chibi Vampire Karin is a vampire anime that does not take itself seriously and it is better for it, instead, it focuses its attention on comedy, characters, fanservice, and colorful visuals. It is a series that is unusual and quirky and I like that about it.
Castlevania is a vampire anime that is gripping, hilarious, beautifully animated, dark, and moving. The characters are not one-dimensional, they all have their reasons they’re doing what they’re doing. Which really blurs the line between right and wrong and really makes you think.

Trinity Blood is a vampire anime series that incorporates a lot of ideas from a lot of anime we have loved and enjoyed over the past, and it is honestly better because of it. It has an engaging plot and for vampire anime fans that love character-driven stories; it ticks all the boxes.
Plot Summary
The background is in the distant future, a post-apocalyptic world after the destruction brought about by Armageddon. The war between humans (Terran) and vampires (Methuselah) continues, as a struggle between two factions: the Vatican and the New Human Empire. Yet, amidst the bloodshed and violence, many desire a peaceful co-existence between the two species. However, standing between them and this goal is the Rosenkreuz Orden, a group of vampire extremists who manipulate the two sides and pit them against each other. To combat them, the Vatican special operations group “AX”, led by Cardinal Caterina, must use everything they have – even a vampire who preys on the blood of other vampires.

Like actual trinities to enjoy Trinity Blood, try reading the manga and light novels first because each adds its own dimension of the Trinity Blood universe, but as a stand-alone the anime is also pretty ok.

Plot Summary
Chizuru Yukimura heads to Kyoto to search for her father, finding herself attacked by madmen before members of the Shinsengumi who mistake her for a boy and take her into custody for interrogation cut them down. Upon learning that she is a girl and the daughter of a doctor who developed the Water of Life elixir that turns those that drink it into invincible blood-lusting berserkers called Rasetsu, the Shinsengumi decide to keep her as an aide in their search. In time, as the Shinsengumi aid the shogunate in the Bakufu, Chizuru develops a bond with the Shinsengumi and its aloof member Toshizo Hijikata. However, as time passes, Chizuru and Shinsengumi confront a mysterious faction who call themselves Oni (Demons) and that Chizuru is also an Oni with her father revealed to be experimenting on the Water of Life to create the Rasetsu to conquer humans.—Wiki.
Hakuoki is a reverse harem vampire anime with exceptional fight scenes, good-looking characters, humor, and history of the civil war times and the early era. It’s definitely not for every vampire fan but if you also like swordsmanship and history this is for you.
7. Tsukuyomi: Moon Phase

Tsukuyomi: Moon Phase is a vampire anime that charts its own course on what a vampire should be like which in their case is less dark and brooding but cute as a kitten with Moe aspects.
Plot Summary

Kurozuka is a series I found captivating, it’s a vampire anime series about vampires, love, betrayal, and revenge. And even though the plot can confuse there is a story here, leaving you wondering what you should value more life or time.
Plot Summary
Escaping from a brother who had just ascended the throne, Yoshitsune, along with his servant, comes across a house in the middle of a desolate mountain. Oddly enough, only a young woman lives there, who seems to possess a very dark past. It a story of obsessive love and constant purse told over a 1000 year period.

Kurozuka is a great anime for the vampire fan that loves action, gore, cyberpunk, and being left thinking at the end.
5. Seraph of the End: Vampire Reign

Seraph of the End: Vampire Reign is a vampire-themed anime I would recommend to beginners or people who have patients because it’s a slow burn type of plot that only gets more interesting gradually.
Plot Summary
One day, a mysterious virus appeared on Earth which killed every infected human over the age of 13. Vampires emerged from the world’s dark recesses and enslaved humanity. Enter Hyakuya Yuuichirou, a young boy, who along with the rest of the children from his orphanage, are treated as livestock by the vampires. Even in captivity, Yuuichirou dreams big. He dreams of killing vampires. He dreams of killing them all.
Most of the improvements to the show happen in the second season, but maybe that is how it’s supposed to be when you have a story to tell slow and steady build-up. It’s full of memorable fights and a variety of emotions that are sometimes relatable. It is serious for its own good sometimes but it is a memorable series.

Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust is a gripping vampire anime film with artistic animation, suspense, action, and some of the best character development in a plot I have seen. And does better than the last movie.
Plot Summary
12,090 A.D. It is a dark time for the world. Humanity is just crawling out from under three hundred years of domination by the race of vampires known as the Nobility. The war against the vampires has taken its toll; cities lie in ruin, it fragmented the countryside into small villages and fiefdoms that still struggle against nightly raids by the fallen vampires and the remnants of their genetically manufactured demons and werewolves.
The story revolves around D, the infamous “dhampir” (born of a vampire father and a human mother) outcast and renowned vampire hunter. His prowess at hunting the creatures of the night allowing his acceptance among humans, they call him to locate Charlotte Elbourne, the lovely daughter of an affluent family who has been mysteriously kidnapped.
Vampire Hunter D is a vampire anime true and true with gothic themes, gore, beauty and shows vampires as both physically strong but emotionally weak beings. Which is always fun to watch and analyze.

Blood+ is one of the best vampire shounen anime with a superb plot and the animation still holds up till today, each episode is as good as the last. It’s a series that combines a lot of genres and they all still fit nicely together.
Plot Summary
It initially set the series in September 2005 in Okinawa City (Koza) on Okinawa Island near the US Kadena Air Base. Under the care of her adoptive family, the protagonist Saya Otonashi had been living the life of an anemic amnesiac, but otherwise ordinary schoolgirl. However, her happy life is shattered when she is attacked by a Chiropteran, a hematophagous bat-like creature that lives by feeding on human blood. Saya learns she is the only one who can defeat them, as her blood causes their bodies to crystallize and shatter. Armed with her special Katana, Saya embarks on a journey with her family, friends, allies, and her chevalier Haji, to rid the world of the Chiropteran threat and recover her identity. The course of the journey reveals the background history of the Chiropterans and Saya’s mysterious past, which extends into the mid-19th century. Blood+ is a vampire anime that I think all vampire anime fans will love, it is a series filled with a lot of emotions, action, sadness and is sometimes an underrated anime that is one of the most beautiful anime ever.
2. Shiki

Shiki is one of the best vampire anime series on our list, it’s an anime I think vampire anime fans should recommend to non-vampire anime fans to try to get them to like the theme. The plot is great and the build-up though slow was very well done.
Plot Summary
The story takes place on a hot summer in the nineties, in a small quiet village called Sotoba. A series of mysterious deaths spread in the village, when a strange family moves into the long-abandoned Kanemasa mansion. Toshio Ozaki, dean of the only hospital in Sotoba, initially suspects an epidemic. But as investigations continue and the deaths pile up, he becomes convinced that they are the work of the undead plaguing the village. A young man named Natsuno Yuuki, who hates living in the village, is pursued and surrounded by death.
Shiki is a vampire anime that is interestingly haunting and is a story that will stick with you long after the credits have rolled by. Using a small village to look at how we as humans try to ignore our problems.
1. Hellsing Ultimate

No, the best vampire anime list would be complete without mentioning Hellsing Ultimate. It’s mind-bogglingly, thrilling, and dark. It really has some fantastic concepts about vampires that I really liked. The women also are not your usual damsel in distress you sometimes get in this type of series but capable.
Plot Summary
Vampires exist. It is the duty of Hellsing, an organization sponsored by the British government, to hide that frightening fact and protect the blissfully unaware populace. Along with its own personal army, Hellsing also has a few secret weapons. Hellsing has controlled Alucard, an incredibly powerful vampire, for years. Although he dislikes being a servant to the Hellsing family, he certainly enjoys his job as Hellsing’s vampire exterminator. Seras is a fledgling vampire and a former policewoman. Although reluctant to embrace her new self, she is still a valuable member of the organization. Integra Hellsing, the current leader, is usually fully capable of fulfilling her duty, but lately, vampire activity has been on the rise. Unfortunately, the cause is more alarming than anything she could have imagined. A group long thought dead has been plotting in secret since their apparent destruction over 50 years ago. Plotting to plunge England, and perhaps the entire world, into war.
Hellsing Ultimate is a series you have to watch though without being overly technical about it to enjoy. It plot is action-packed and interesting, characters are memorable and wicked cool overall. You should definitely watch.

Kamisama Kiss and Inuyasha: Which do you like more? I’ve read both the manga versions and watched the anime shows for these. After seeing Kamisama Kiss, I couldn’t help but notice how similar it was to Inuyasha. So I took to asking readers and other anibloggers what they thought (or if they’ve ever seen both).
One of the main sources and ideas comes from aminoapps. You can read it here for their version. This article is basically the same ideas and article expanded on. And of course, Myanime2go doesn’t own Inuyasha or Kamisama Kiss.
First Similar Reason…
Both Kagome and Nanami are humans with spiritual powers.
Although Kagome is a priestess while Nanami is a god, they both have purification powers. Albeit in different forms where Kagome’s powers come more directly just from her touch or her arrow, while Nanami’s requires her shikigami to do it together.
Another convenient power is the ability to command Inuyasha/ Tomoe. Kagome can forcibly get Inuyasha to sit whenever she commands him to do so by saying “Osuwari!”. For Nanami, since she’s a god and Tomoe is her familiar, she can basically command him to do anything as long as she uses her power over him. This of course brings in some funny moments and comedic relief over the course of both shows.
Character wise, both Kagome and Nanami are direct, sincere, brave and most importantly, warm. Both of them have a kind heart that reaches out to everyone around them. Not having the capacity to leave anyone who’s hurting behind, they never fail to brighten the lives of people they encounter, leaving a positive change on the way people view their lives.
Another Similar Moment for Kamisama Kiss and Inuyasha
Both of the female protagonists time traveled! I really love it when a story involves traveling back into the past of Japanese history. Kagome traveled back into the feudal era (~500+ years ago) while Nanami traveled back into different times of Tomoe’s past.
Both of them have some relation to the past-lives of the lovers of the male protagonists.
Confusing, but let me explain. Kagome is Kikyo’s reincarnation whom Inuyasha loved very deeply in the past. Yukiji is Nanami’s ancestor (Yukiji was Nanami in some cases when Nanami acted as Yukiji) whom Tomoe loved very much too. Both Kagome and Nanami also had the chance to interact with the past-lovers. It’s heart-wrenching to watch them being forced to look at how Inuyasha/ Tomoe still having Kikyo/ Yukiji in their hearts.
With Inuyasha coming out first, it was a main debate on how similar Kagome and Kikyo looked. We even did a whole article going in-depth for it. There was a great debate on which team a person was on. One of the first OTP/Ship wars before anime became so popular.
Kamisama Kiss and Inuyasha: Both males are demons
They’re both canine demons, Inuyasha being a half dog demon and Tomoe being a fox demon. This explains the similarities in their appearances. Both of them have white/ silver hair, however you want to call it. I think a fanfiction even said blounde was described as white/silver. They have adorable, fluffy white ears sticking out and the pupil of their eyes are both cat-like. Oh yeah, not forgetting the sharp claws/ nails they have on their hands.
Character wise, their tsundere personalities are horribly cute in Kamisama Kiss and Inuyasha. They always try to hide their feelings whenever Kagome or Nanami does something for them. Their blushes are absolutely adorable! Both of them also have the strong will to protect their loved ones, always placing themselves at the front lines to defend them. I must say that both of them also have really bad tempers, they get annoyed easily and they definitely show no effort trying to hide it.
Both of them have really sad histories of being in love. Inuyasha was tricked into hating Kikyo and never being able to reconcile or discover the truth till many years later. Kikyo made a really big impact on Inuyasha’s life. Being a half-demon, he was looked down on and he never truly belonged anywhere. He was a lot more violent and cruel until he fell in love with Kikyo. She accepted him for who he was and brought out the gentle side of him.
For Tomoe, Yukiji’s inevitable death was what scarred him so deeply. Being a demon, they would outlive humans by many centuries. The lifespan of a human is probably seen as a second to them. That’s why falling in love but never being able to be with their loved one will always leave a painful memory on Tomoe.
Moreover, because of how Kikyo and Yukiji are both humans, Inuyasha and Tomoe also wanted to change into a human so that they can always live alongside them. Kikyo and Yukiji respectively was of paramount importance that they were willing to forgo the life and abilities they were used to.
The relationships between Inuyasha and Kagome, and Tomoe and Nanami are very similar too. They both bicker a hell of a lot and they’re always at each others’ necks. Any little thing can spark a heated argument. Nevertheless, they’ll settle their conflict and most of the time, in a very cute way.
Despite the similarities, both anime shows have very different feels to them. Even though Inuyasha has many aspects of comedy to them, it definitely takes on a darker and heavier connotation compared to Kamisama Hajimemashita(Kamisama Kiss).
The emotions felt by Kagome and Kikyo are painfully real and it makes you feel frustrated at how wishy-washy Inuyasha is to feel so much for Kikyo who’s only a corpse. Yet you can’t hate Kikyo for it. On the other hand, Kamisama Hajimemashita is a lot more shoujo-ish with the light, fluttery feels. Nevertheless, if you’re a sucker for Japanese-themed anime with supernatural aspects, they’re both worth checking out!

It’s no secret how amazing fanfiction is. It’s even better when it comes from Inuyasha. In fact, on fanfiction(dot) net, it’s the third most written category in anime/manga with Naruto being first and Hetalia-Axis Powers coming in second.
While being on hiatus, I decided that some major therapy was in order in the form of reading some of my favourite Inuyasha fanfiction stories all over again. I was already watching the show again, but reading has been an escape for as long as I can remember.
Without further ado, here are some of my favourites that you can read over and over again!
Purity

This one is incredible. She has basically created an entire world within this fandom that has become very believable. She has about 11 series written after this one, and it describes their children’s lives. I normally don’t like OC characters but this one has stuck with me. It’s one of those stories that make you question whether or not it’s canon.
A Very Sesshomaru Pregnancy
By: Kanna37 Every woman since Eve has wished that her male would know what it was like to suffer through a pregnancy. Kagome’s wish for the same is going to be granted… lucky, lucky her.
This one was just hilarious. I enjoy reading a comedy every now and then and this one takes the cake for an Inuyasha fanfiction. Despite being between Sesshomaru and Kagome, it still deserves a spot as one of the bests!
Hunted

This one was extremely unique. It was fun to see this written in non-human form and the love story will keep you staying up all night to finish it.
Beauty and the Half-Demon

Another one by RoseDragonWitch! She’s talented, that’s for sure! This one has been a new spin on the classic tale of Beauty and the Beast. Fans of either one will certainly enjoy this Inuyasha fanfiction.
9 Months

Weightless
By: Kaggs Kagome develops Anorexia after believing the horrible names bullies call her. After being sent to the hospital, she is sent into the Shikon institute for teens. There she struggles to regain her normal self, falling in love with her doctor in the process.
This fanfiction is a bit darker. It deals with an eating disorder which some people might find hard to read. Still, it was touching to read and I immensely enjoyed it.
The King’s Mistress

I have reread this one the most. I always loved this era and the story is PACKED with something for everyone to enjoy.
Dead Famous

So 6 anime that are similar to Dororo?, hello everyone. So you want to watch another anime with a moody dark tone about love, greed, revenge and betrayal.
Dororo was produced by Tezuka Productions and MAPPA, and is the brainchild of Osamu Tezuka- who is considered “the father of manga”. For creation of classics like Astro Boy.
And for those not familiar with Dororo yet;
Dororo is an anime that follows the story of Hyakkimaru, whose greedy and selfish father Kagemitsu Daigo, sacrifices his body to demons to gain power (yes he won’t be winning any father of the year awards). We Follow Hyakkimaru has he defeats demons to regain his body with a mischievous child Dororo. Now back to the main topic:

Moribito: Guardian of the Spirit

Moribito is an anime series that like Dororo follows two strangers who meet by chance, Prince Chagum– the emperor’s son and whose also thought to be the reincarnation of a water demon that is causing drought to their empire, so therefore most be sacrificed. And Balsa– the kick butt heroine who saves the prince’s life during an assassination attempt and later begged by his mother to keep him safe.
The same themes are present as in Dororo from the emphasis on the beauty of life, nature, family and the bonds that can be fromed by two strangers who embark on this journey together.
Katanagatari

Katanagatari is set in the edo period Japan, where the Shogunate and samurai are still very active and ruling. And there are many different sword-fighting techniques.
We follow Shichika Yasuri–a wielder of a sword technique that uses his own body as a blade. He is also the seventh head of the Kyotouryuu school, living quietly with his sister Nanami.
Until he meets ths strategist Togame, who he falls for. She has been sent by the Shogunate to retrieve 12 unique swords called “Deviant Blades”, he accept to help her on her mission because he likes her. So their dangerous adventure beings.
Katanagatari similarities to Dororo is in it historic setting and our two characters, Shichika and Togame whose continued association on their journey to retrieve the 12 swords, causes major developmental growth in both characters. Making them both better and more relatable.
Afro Samurai

Afro after witnessing the death of his father in a dual with a man named Justice for the Number One headband. Afro vows revenge against Justice who killed his father for the Number One headband.
But there is a catchy on his path to vengeance he has to possess the Number Two headband, if he wishes to fight the new Number One. And even after possessing the Number Two headband, he will have to fight pretty much everyone in the world people to get to the Number One. Because unlike the Number One, the Number Two can be challenged by anyone.
Afro Samurai to me is similar to Dororo in it’s setting of samurai and the moral lessons, it constantly resounds in us that “how far is too far?” on our path to revenge. Is revenge really done for what is lost to us? or really more for us to find a way to cope with our loss. Are we really hurting anyone but ourselves has we chase revenge? and What remains after, of us when we have carried out our revenge?
Samurai Champloo

Samurai Champloo follows three unlikely pair Fuu, Jin and Mugen. Brought together by chance but stuck together by choice or blackmail?, out of a debt to pay to Fuu after saving them from being executed.
They follow her on a wild adventure to different places in their search for the samurai that smells of sunflowers.
Samurai Champloo and Dororo are similar in the delight you will get in watching them on their journey, it really makes you feel like you are setting out on an adventure. Characters having both minor and major goals they wish to accomplish, which make them more relatable. Both animes have an historical setting and many interesting characters they meet along the way, also with their minor or major goals that make them very human like instead of just 2 dimensional characters.
Stranger: Mukou Hadan (Sword of the Stranger)

We follow the story of an orphan boy named Kotarou, his dog Tobimaru and Nanashi a ronin. Having a random encounter in a small temple, where they are attacked by assassins sent by the China’s Ming Dynasty to kill Kotarou but the two are saved by Nanashi.
After Kotarou offers Nanashi a gem in exchange for his continued protection and escort to their destination, he agrees and dangerous journey with many twists and turns begins.
Sword of the Stranger shares similarities to Dororo with it’s historical setting, main characters being similar in both series are young, orphaned and streetwise youth, with a strong and older brotherly figure. Growth for both character, happen also from having the other at their side. The duo feed of each others being, making them become more relatable characters.
Berserk

Berserk is an amazing story that is hard to know where to begin from explaining it, like Dororo it’s a story filled with love, loss, greed, betrayal, revenge and so much more, just with the story more gritty, darker and mature.
We meet Guts a mercenary with an horrible childhood, who finds some one he respects and trusts, only to be betrayed and have everything taken from him right in front of his eyes by the person he thought was a friend, in the most gruesome way possible.

FLCL aka Fooly Cooly
FLCL has been labeled as a masterpiece and something pleasantly different. If an anime show has this much praise, the I’m expecting something enjoyable and funny.
Sadly, FLCL did not offer anything but pain.
There is absolutely no story behind this anime. It is just six episodes of disjointed scripts that attempt to fuse together as many genres as possible then injected with pointless crude humor.
Many would argue that this show is nothing but a random and nonsensical arrangement of spontaneous events. It’s full of pointless and meaningless slapstick humor that cheapens the show, makes it impossible to take seriously as an anime and gives it a “loony toons” vibe of immaturity.
Aho Girl
Overall, if you are looking for a short anime with endless comedy gags with no clear story or plot but just laughter, then this anime is for you. It’s slightly lewd, but over the top comedy.
However, Aho Girl is also painful to watch. While doing a comedy list, I came across this anime. I made it about five minutes before I caved. Seriously, this anime made me want to bang my head against a wall and scream. More so than Diabolic Lovers ever did.
First and foremost, this show is simply not funny. Aho Girl makes a spectacle of itself – presenting faux-meaningful observations; idolizing its vapid female lead; overindulging in panty shots; while accomplishing absolutely nothing in the end.
The testament of Sister New Devil or Shinmai Maou no Testament
In my opinion this show is just bad.
First of all half, the show is unwatchable. Half of the show is white bars of light covering the screen during the more sexual oriented scenes. I don’t know about anyone else, but I don’t like staring at anything for almost 3 to 5 minutes at a time, with an occasional face or backside appearing in a shot.
Second, the story is just so messy and all over the place. Most of the story makes little to no sense, due to plot holes. You may argue that it isn’t about the story, but the point is the story tries to bring in characters and world building it didn’t even need.
Overall, feel free to disagree, but there is so much holding this series back. There are some interesting ideas sprinkled here and there, but not a single one of them were represented properly here. This is simply a mediocre show, just not worth anyone’s time, not even the most hardcore of ecchi anime fans.
HAKYUU HOUSHIN ENGI
I love the Houshin Engi manga, so when I saw it was going to receive another anime, I was hopeful this one would cover the whole story and do a decent job on its adaptation. Sadly, I was wrong. The first episode already shows big differences between the two. The story is badly told. You can’t understand much if you don’t know it already.
I still recommend the manga, but this anime shouldn’t exist.
Most viewers will not like this anime for two simple reasons: It’s not very good and most of all, not very enjoyable either. It walks the path of mediocrity without even trying to be anything. The outcome is very bland and a total lackluster.
This adaptation did surprisingly many questionable choices. First and foremost is the lack of introduction. Viewers are quite directly thrown into a random world around random characters. Nothing is explained, things just somewhat are there and stuff happens because it does.
THE MASTER OF RAGNAROK & BLESSER OF EINHERJAR or Hyakuren no Haou to Seiyaku no Valkyria
Even when stacked up against Isekai abominations like Death March and Isekai wa Smartphone, it still somehow manages to be even worse! In fact, this might just be the worst Isekai anime that I’ve seen to date, and considering the generally poor quality of the genre, that’s really saying something. So yes, this anime is definitely incredible!
Incredibly bad.
This anime doesn’t even bother to start with the protagonist getting inexplicably transported to a fantasy world. When we’re introduced to him, he’s already been in another world for two years, so it’s almost like this isn’t even an Isekai anime. Anyway, our protagonist, named Super Ultra Omnipotent Usurper, or Suou for short, is a perfect being in every way! He’s the most morally just and relatable character ever, is a military genius, and, most importantly, gets all the women! Actually, only the latter is true, but the anime still desperately tries to give him character traits that make him more than just a chick magnet.
Too bad they fail miserably.
Suou is a conqueror, plain and simple. Not of nations, but of women. Yet what makes him stand out from his fellow Kirito clones? Well, Suou is unique in that when he claims a girl as his property, he makes her a part of his “family.” That’s right, this guy forces his women to become his little sisters and daughters. Then makes them address him as “papa” and “big brother.” He also doesn’t seem to give a crap about his soldiers and doesn’t bat an eye when they’re slaughtered in combat. And the best part is that the writers still try to portray him as an “I am holier than thou” type of character.
Thanks to the solar-powered smartphone that Suou just so happens to have, our hero is able to look up military tactics of great historical leaders like Alexander the Great and Sun Tzu and implement them in battles. Of course, you really can’t tell what battle strategies are being used during fight scenes due to the hideous visuals that make everything look like an utter mess.
A random red haired dude in this anime wisely said “the details don’t matter.” I think the writers must have taken that sentence to heart. Nothing about this anime makes any sense. The plot goes nowhere, and the characters are painfully bland and annoying.
Goblin Slayer
“Anyone who likes/dislikes this show is a Nazi/Libtard.” – The state of the anime community after episode 1.
I think it’s fair to say that no other anime has caused such controversy and overwhelming divide amongst anime fans after a single episode like Goblin Slayer has. A scene lasting around fifteen seconds featuring a character being raped receiving more condemnation than every other anime airing this year.
So, feel free to watch Goblin Slayer if you enjoy dark-fantasy and have a tolerance for uncomfortable content. Or skip it, because truth told, Goblin Slayer was never really worth caring that much about in the first place.
Hanoka
Hanoka was the very first full fledged anime series to be animated completely in Flash. This is a terrible mistake. The flash makes the animation look unnatural, especially when viewing the characters. The faces and heads do not look right at all, and the faces show no expression on them what so ever. I do applaud the makers for trying flash, but it appears that the technology has come nowhere close to make it worthwhile.
I’m not really sure what I expected from this show initially. I’m all for new techniques used in any kind of context, and given that this Anime series had been animated entirely in Flash format, I thought of it as perhaps something exciting.
Throughout the show, we see the usual, predictable scenes such as “I’ll fight to protect you”, “he gave me a reason to live”, and “aagh you fatally injured him and now my powers increased tenfold because of my emotional distress”. The originality of the show is close to zero. No, if it’s a proper story you’re looking for, then this isn’t it.
Also the ending has got to be the worst ending I have ever seen to an anime series. Terrible does not even begin to describe Hanoka.
Ghost Stories Gakkou no Kaidan
The thing about this anime is that it is actually REALLY really bad. It bombed in Japan and it is easy to see why.
However……
Aniplex was handed the English dub of the show, knowing it was a failure in Japan and it SEEMS they didn’t take the dub too seriously. So what do we get? The best dub that has ever been done ever. Let me try to explain; the voice actors decided to add really adult jokes, often breaking the fourth wall and mocking the show itself. It’s like a fandub with comedians or an Abridged series, but full episodes.
To me, there was a certain formula for watching this show. It’s definitely not a series someone should marathon. Nope, it should be enjoyed an episode or two at a time. Any more and you’ll find yourself sick of the studpidity. Ghost stories is so bad it’s good. The show gets most of its fame from being so awful and the dub so hilarious.
My advice to you is to watch the Dub. Bear in mind, the adult humor may be offputting to younger audiences. Or if you get offended easily, then please do NOT watch this. Ghost Stories English dub tries to be offensive to everyone and it succeeds.

Why are anime characters always so skinny? I mean, it could be because skinny people are just easier to draw. Or is it something deeper? Something a bit more real? Something like being slim equals being beautiful in many people’s minds.
In episode 4 of the original Sailor Moon anime, Usagi apparently puts on some weight and decides to go on a diet. But oh my glob, look at her! She is as skinny as a pole. To add insult to injury, Luna makes fun of Usagi by drawing a chubby version of her. I really thought that was mean of her.
In Kitchen Princess, supermodel Akane Kishida goes to extreme measures to start losing weight. She continues this unhealthy and dangerous lifestyle until Najika makes Akane her Grandmother’s peach cobbler and gets her to realize that she’s beautiful the way she is. But the reality isn’t always like that. Most girls(and even guys) don’t have the support they need.
In the end, is being thin a bad thing? No, of course not. But in the anime society, it can at times go to an extreme.
Sometimes looking at anime characters can have as much damage as looking through the photo-shopped versions of people in magazines. Why? Sure, it might be easier for the animators to draw but we also have to remember that anime isn’t reality. As much as we would love that to be so. The people in magazines are airbrushed to show the even skin tone, the large eyes and slim, “perfect” body.
Anime shows a world where that anime characters always skinny. But we have to be careful with that. The desire to be thin can be a strong and dangerous emotion. I’m 26 now but have dealt with an eating disorder since I was 15. That wasn’t even the first time that I was told that I was fat. And I wasn’t at all. I was 5 feet 7 inches and weighed 120 for most of my life. I was UNDERWEIGHT for my height but a few comments made me feel fat and disgusting. So, I became a binge eater. I would go a day or two eating nothing but maybe a cracker or two and then stuff my face. After all that, it would of course make me sick so I would purge it out.
Even now, I struggle with my eating. I hide my body beneath baggy shirts and hoodies. The anxiety of eating out with friends makes me sick so I’ll usually just avoid people and places. Which in turns means I don’t get out much. But that’s a whole other can of worms.
Eating disorders are more common than they should be. And with the anime characters that we admire and look up to, that can at times causes us to try to look more like them than is physically possible. I mean, anime is made to be aesthetically pleasing to the eye. That’s how they’re drawn. But in reality, if we were that size, we would be no bigger than a stick and couldn’t even hold our heads up.
