You’ve probably already read my November 2023 review of The Otaku Box, and now I’ve finally put together a review of their December 2023 box.
In case you don’t know what The Otaku Box is, it’s an affordable subscription box filled with many anime goods. The theme? Waifus & ecchi!
You can expect to see items like:
- apparel with waifus,
- 1:9 scale anime figures,
- keychains,
- console skins,
- various other collectibles.
*Disclosure: This subscription box was gifted by The Otaku Box in exchange for an honest review. All views are my own.
How it works
Prices vary, with the cheapest option starting at $29.95 for the default Otaku Box, which includes around 10 otaku items.
You can add more items to your box for a higher price. These extras include another anime figure, a t-shirt, and even digitally exclusive 700+ pages of waifu oppai.
As mentioned earlier, The Otaku Box operates on a subscription basis. If you subscribe for multiple months, you’ll receive benefits such as extra free items and additional figures in your first box.
What’s special is that they care about what their subscribers want. They conduct polls to decide what items will be included in the boxes and maintain an active and engaging forum where fans connect with each other. They’re also active on social media platforms.
Shipping takes 9 to 28 days, and they ship to the following countries: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Korea, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Shipping is $6.99 in the US.
What’s inside the Otaku Box (December 2023)?
This box is called a waifu box for a reason; if you look closely inside, you’ll notice that most of the items feature scantily clad anime girls who are popular among fans.
I’ve recorded some of my favorite items and turned them into GIFs so you can get a better idea of how they look in reality.
Controller skins
Do you enjoy gaming? The most popular consoles have received special waifu skins! It’s great to customize your controllers, and the artwork is really nice.
Waifu Puzzle Cube
Admiring the beautiful faces of waifus can indeed be satisfying and rewarding. If you find yourself getting bored often, solving this waifu cube might be your gateway to a more fulfilling pastime!
Keychains
You can probably agree with me that a keychain with your favorite anime character can be a small yet meaningful way to express your interests and add a bit of joy to your everyday life.
The main acrylic keychain featured in the December 2023 Otaku Box was Luffy from One Piece, one of the most popular shounen characters and a beloved icon in the anime community.
T-shirt
This stripped t-shirt featuring Rias Gremory from High School DxD has a strangely seductive appeal. I haven’t washed it enough times to know if it really stands the test of time, though.
Again, if you love Rias, you can easily express your admiration for her and the series this way, while also incorporating personal style and interests into your wardrobe.
Albedo Figure
1/9 scale figures offer a compelling combination of detail, affordability, and display impact, making them popular among collectors.
From what I understand, their figures are unlicensed original sculptures. The quality isn’t top-tier, but that’s expected. It’s decent, though.
Waifu Card
The Waifu Card is an ongoing collection with over 50 cards to date. The one I received this month features the Ice Queen Esdeath from Akame ga Kill.
Waifu Drink Cards
Which tag describes you best? If I had to pick one, I would probably pick Raphtalia!
A2 Scroll
A2 might not be the most popular character from Nier: Automata, but she seems to have won the poll on the Otaku Box site. As a result, her artwork was chosen to be made into the scroll!
Mini Figure
In December 2023, there were 4 mini figures from Kaguya-sama: Love is War that you could get (selected randomly), and I received Chika!
The verdict
So, is the Otaku Box worth it? I genuinely think it’s a budget-friendly option that can suit any otaku who loves popular waifus with big oppai, as they seem to be featured most in the artworks and figures. Those looking for less popular anime characters might be disappointed.
Since there is an uncensored option, it’s also “adult-friendly,” which might be hard to find elsewhere, making it another advantage over the competition.
Overall, it allows you to indulge in anime merchandise without breaking the bank.
