You’ve probably already read my December 2023 review of The Otaku Box, and now I’ve finally put together a review of their January 2024 box.
When I was younger, I stumbled upon the concept of subscription boxes, and it was like discovering a hidden treasure trove in an already exciting world. I was just starting to explore the vast universe of anime, manga, and Japanese pop culture, and every new discovery was like finding a new friend. The idea of receiving a curated selection of goodies related to my newfound passions on a regular basis was nothing short of amazing. I remember the first time I heard about these subscription boxes and it was like finding a secret society that catered to my interests. I couldn’t resist the promise of receiving a carefully chosen assortment of anime merchandise, manga volumes, figurines, and other collectibles sent straight to my door every month.
Introducing The Otaku Box, an affordable subscription box that is packed with anime goods. This month’s theme is all about Dnd Stuff, Waifus, husbandos & ecchi!
In this subscription box, you can expect to find a range of exciting items such as apparel featuring waifus, anime figures, keychains, and various other collectibles.
*Full Disclosure: It’s important to note that The Otaku Box gifted this subscription box in exchange for an honest review. As always, all views expressed are my own.
How it works
Prices vary, with the cheapest option starting at $29.95 for the default Otaku Box, which includes around 10 otaku items.
You can add more items to your box for a higher price. These extras include another anime figure, a t-shirt, and even digitally exclusive 700+ pages of waifu oppai.
As mentioned earlier, The Otaku Box operates on a subscription basis. If you subscribe for multiple months, you’ll receive benefits such as extra free items and additional figures in your first box.
What’s special is that they care about what their subscribers want. They conduct polls to decide what items will be included in the boxes and maintain an active and engaging forum where fans connect with each other. They’re also active on social media platforms.
Shipping takes 9 to 28 days, and they ship to the following countries: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Korea, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Shipping is $6.99 in the US.
What’s inside the Otaku Box (January 2024)?
As soon as I tore open the latest package from The Otaku Box, a warm feeling of nostalgia hit me. It brought back memories of all the fun I’ve had with the treasures that each new box brings. The items inside were colorful and had interesting shapes. Everything was just waiting to be discovered and it was like finding hidden treasures.
Mini Haikyuu!! Figure
In January 2024, there were 8 mini figures from January 2024 that you could get (selected randomly), and I received Kenma Kozume!
If you’re a Haikyuu!! fan, you gotta have a Kenma Kozume mini figurine in your collection. It’s so cool to own one given Kenma’s popularity among fans of the series. I’m really happy I got one for myself. And its pretty well made.
Waifu Gaming Dice
You might want these if you’re into Dungeons & Dragons and love a bit of anime waifu flair. As a fellow D&D lover, I was drawn to these dice for their fun chibi inspired anime waifu, as well as for their practicallity, they made me chuckle a bit when i held them in my hands.
But don’t think these dice are just pretty faces — they’re also quiet good. They roll smoothly, and give accurate results, so you can focus on your gameplay without worrying about the dice failing you.
Controller skins
If you’re a fan of anime and want to make your gaming setup look cuter, you should check out controller skins with these cute waifu designs. They not only make your controller look cooler, but also protect it from scratches and wear and tear, so it stays like new. These skins are super easy to put on and take off, and you can hold your controller without feeling any discomfort.
Collectible Metal Waifu Card
Choosing Zero Two as the star of the metal waifu card was a smart move because she’s a fan favorite. She’s a main character in Darling in the Franxx, and people love her because she looks cool, has a complicated personality, and has an interesting backstory. That’s why she’s perfect for a collectible item like a metal waifu card. Though I’m not really big on collecting cards, the quality is good for card collectors.
Anime Shoelaces
The Demon Slayer anime-inspired shoelaces are a cool, practical, and stylish accessory that lets anime fans flaunt their love for their favorite series in a creative and practical way. They’re super eye-catching and durable, and they add a touch of anime effect to your kicks.
T-shirt
The first thing that caught my attention was the dope art print of Zero Two. Her pink hair, red horns, and mysterious smile were illustrated so beautifully, it was a no-brainer to put this on a t-shirt.
Esdeath Figure
Although the Esdeath figure may not be of the highest quality, it still offers fans a decent representation of the character that captures her essence and presence. The figure’s faithful sculpting, recognizable design, and dynamic pose make it a worthy addition to any Akame ga Kill! collection. It provides fans with an accessible and affordable way to celebrate their love for the series and its memorable characters.
Yor Forger Scroll
The Yor Forger Scroll is a really cool and awesome item that fans of the series are going to love. However, it’s important to keep in mind that it’s mainly meant for collectors. So, it might not be your thing if you’re not really into collecting scrolls, though the art is good.
Yue (Arifureta) Button
If you’re a fan of Arifureta: From Commonplace to World’s Strongest, then check out the Yue button! It’s a cute and simple way to show your love for one of the show’s beloved characters.
The depiction of Yue, with her ethereal beauty captures the essence of her character and transports fans back to the fantastical world of “Arifureta”. From her elegant attire to her striking hair accessories, every detail is faithfully recreated.
And don’t be fooled by its small size, this button packs a punch! The printing is bright and clear, with colors that really stand out. Plus, the button is built to last, so you can attach it to your backpack, jacket, or hat and it will stay put. It’s the perfect way to show off your love for the series and keep it with you wherever you go.
Waifu Card
The Waifu Card is an ongoing collection with over 50 cards to date. The one I received this month features Aqua “Goddess of Water, Damegami” from KonoSuba: God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World!
As a die-hard fan of the series and with the latest season of the show available to watch. It was a great addition! I was really thrilled to get this waifu card, now if only I could get the other girls from the series.
The verdict
So, is the Otaku Box worth it? I genuinely think it’s a budget-friendly option that can suit any otaku who loves popular waifus with big oppai, as they seem to be featured most in the artworks and figures. Those looking for less popular anime characters might be disappointed.
Since there is an uncensored option, it’s also “adult-friendly,” which might be hard to find elsewhere, making it another advantage over the competition.
Overall, it allows you to indulge in anime merchandise without breaking the bank.
