Hey everyone, the year is almost over so I thought it would be nice to list some of the songs, we loved or didn’t hear this year that are really good. And at the end there going to be one song, that everyone likes in the Yo! D101 team.

   So let’s get started, sit back relax, listen and enjoy 😊 😊 😊;

 Gucci Gang – Lil Pump

With 300 million views on YouTube and 3 and 4 year olds the world over chanting the catch tune, Lil Pump an American rapper created a hit. So far peaking at number 3 on the US Billboard Hot 100.

Shape of You – Ed Sheeran

Edward Christopher Sheeran, is an English singer, songwriter, guitarist and record producer. It broke records in a number of countries and shows Ed Sheeran is a granted hit maker. He was everywhere this year with a record breaking album, a hit song and a duet with Beyonce, he really can’t stop winning.

“So It Goes…” – Taylor Swift

She’s an American singer-songwriter. Her other songs on her album Reputation might not have been received well but this was one everyone liked, hopefully her next album will be better. She’s known for her narrative songs about her personal life, but maybe it’s time she trys a different approach because some critics are saying its, just her usual brand or maybe it was just a hit and a miss but we will be looking forward to what comes next form the talented singer-songwriter.

Green Light – Lorde

Ella Marija Lani Yelich-O’Connor, a New Zealand singer-songwriter and record producer and as been involved in music professional since her early teens. Releasing her first extended play at 16 and she still stays original with her style of music. Something I find remarkable is she’s still topping herself this year, singing songs that feel ageless and able to sing about the modern teenager.

DNA – Kendrick Lamar

31st best song of the year on Billboard, in their list of the year of the 100 best songs of the year. A song by American rapper and songwriter Kendrick Lamar Duckworth in is fourth album Damn, it wasn’t released as single but it got a lot of radio play support after its video release, just to show you how great the song is. He was raised in Compton, California,  and been doing music as a job since is teen years using the stage name K-Dot at the time.

Butterfly Effect – Travis Scoot

Dropping out of school to follow his dreams worked out for American rapper, singer, songwriter and record producer from Houston, Texas Jacques Webster Jr., stage name Travis Scoot. The single was certified platinum by RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) with sales and streaming equivaling 1,000,000 in the U.S.A.  So it’s quite good and to me shows the work he’s kept into is work all this years.

Sign of the Times – Harry Styles

Since One Direction going on hiatus, Harry Edward Styles as been working on his solo career is going well. He’s an English singer, songwriter and actor now, he rose to stardom as a member of the One Direction, showing he is not just a guy in a band, taking risk in is new album with sounds that are like nothing else. Signs of the Times definitely says what he wants Equal rights for everyone no matter your race, sex and anything else. Letting you know whatever you are fighting for Styles as your back.

Bad Liar – Selena Gomez

Our girl from Wizards of Waverly Place as done it again, Selena Gomez the singer and actress done it again, some are saying this is a high point in her career.  Bad Liar as made it way to the video game Just Dance 2018, reaching the top 20 in Australia, Canada, Czech Republic, Mexico, United States and others. Whole top 40 in Sweden, Denmark, United Kingdom, Norway and others.  This song was a certified hit and a song of the year.

Love – Lana Del Rey

Elizabeth Woolridge ” Lizzy ” Grant ( Lana Del Rey) an American singer-songwriter, record producer and model is there anything she can’t do. Reaching high in the charts and doing even better than her West coast single in her Ultraviolence’s album. And people love it, with its romantic pictures of youth, but still surreal and a bit scary. We just can’t seem to get enough of her.

Slide – Calvin Harris

Adam Richard Wiles  (Calvin Harris) a Scottish record producer, DJ and singer-songwriter as created another wonderful piece of music, I think Las Vegas Review-Journal says it best “Slide carries a mixture of the depth and warmth of analog instrumentation alongside modern vocal production, arrangement and mixing and showcases Calvin’s music abilities and prowess to the best”.

The Weekend – SZA

The song sings of a woman who share a lover with other women and only get him on the weekend, while the others having him during the week. But here is something, Solána Imani Rowe (SZA) an American R&B singer-songwriter doesn’t have to share her hard work and the weekend going platinum.

The Story of O.J – Jay Z

Shawn Corey Carter know as Jay Z, the American rapper and businessman might be going through somethings this year, like is feud with Kanye West but is song is not one of the problems nominated for Record of the Year at the 60th Annual Grammy Awards. And in usual Jay Z fashion the song is a bit controversial but like he says “Context is everything.”

Lil Uzi Vert real name Symere Woods is an American hip hop recording artist, XO Tour Lif3 was in the Billboard Hot 100 top 10  and it was recognised by Spotify as one of the most streamed tracks of the summer of 2017 in the United States, a single from his EP Luv Is Rage 1.5.

With 35 million+ views, the beat is different from what we have heard from N.E.R.D and it’  great, Rihanna was also killing it and I think it was a great combination which showed in Lemon , in every chart around the world. The American band and the Barbadian Singer collaboration from N.E.R.D album No One Ever Really Dies is gold.

Something Just Like This – Coldplay & The Chainsmokers

You probably heard the song at the Miss USA 2017 swimsuit competition, 2017 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament and nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance at the 60th Annual Grammy Awards to show you well it was received. I tip my hat to Cardi B the American rapper who wrote and recorded the song. Issues – Julia Michaels

Its the debut Single by singer-songwriter American, Julia Michaels, was recorded for her EP Nervous System and was her first track, she co-wrote the song and it’s a downtempo love song which she says shows her raw ode to her own anxieties, which everyone can relate to in one way, maybe that’s why it’s so good. Like the Piano – Sampha

Sampha use to work for other musicians but now he’s making himself know and coming out into the spot light with this beautiful song. And it’s so good I really want to see where he will go from here. The song tells use how a piano shaped him to the man, he is today and how it let’s him put bread on the table. It seems through the piano he found himself, something some other people travel the world to find.
