15. Love Hina

Episodes 24 + OVA | Aired Spring 2000 | Produced by Xebec

Love Hina-Naru-Narusegawa-Keitarou-Urashima-Motoko Aoyama-Shinobu Maehara-Kaolla Su-Mitsune Konno-Haruka Urashima-looking suprised at something

Love Hina is one of the series that popularized the Harem and Tsundere genre. With lots of humour and romance, this series is a definite must-see.

Summary

Keitaro has had great difficulty getting into the university of his choice and no luck in meeting women. In a desperate effort to go into seclusion and study for his entrance exams, he volunteers to take over running his grandmother’s hotel. His plans are ruined when he discovers that the “hotel“ is actually an all-girls dormitory… and some serious distractions ensue.

Love Hina is funny and always kept me entertained. It has a charm and humor that is hard to find in any anime these days.

14. Nazo no Kanojo X (Mysterious Girlfriend X)

Episodes 13 + OVA | Aired Spring 2012 | Produced by Hoods Entertainment

Nazo no Kanojo X Mysterious Girlfriend X Tsubaki Urabe Mikoto resting on his arm

Not often will you find an anime which revolves around drool, which is rather bizarre but the series is really good. If anything I think the weirdness added to the originality of Mysterious Girlfriend X.

Summary

One day, a strange transfer student appears before Tsubaki. Urabe Mikoto is an antisocial girl, whose hobby is just sleeping during class-breaks. One day, Tsubaki goes to wake her up and accidentally tastes her drool… And gets hooked on that! After that, he starts going out with her and gets to know her better. Her second hobby, as it turns out, is carrying around scissors in her panties and cutting paper into flowers…

Mysterious Girlfriend X is an unorthodox anime but its a series that is realistic in its approach to love and relationships. Teaching you about love and how real love can be like.

13. Prison School

Episodes 12 + OVA | Aired Summer 2015 | Produced by J.C.Staff

Prison School Kiyoshi Fujino Hana Midorikawa together

Prison School manages to tell an interesting story with hilarious comedy and incredibly lewd ecchi scenes, but still be suspenseful and more than just another eechi series.

Summary

Hachimitsu Private Academy was a revered and elite all-girls’ boarding school on the outskirts of Tokyo…once upon a time. But with the new school year comes a revision to school policy: Boys are to be admitted into the student body for the first time ever. But on his first day at Hachimitsu, Kiyoshi Fujino discovers that he’s one of only five boys enrolled at the school. Their numbers overwhelmed by the thousand girls in the student body is it heaven or hell that awaits these five (un)fortunate?!

Prison School is an anime with a very unusual combination of genres and styles, and an even rarer case of one which actually does it successfully. Watching Prison School was definitely never a dull moment with a lot of genuinely hilarious scenes and touching moments.

12. Highschool of the Dead

Episodes 12 + OVA | Aired Summer 2010 | Produced by Madhouse

Highschool of the Dead Saeko Busujima Takashi Komuro Kouta Hirano Rei Miyamoto Saya Takagi Shizuka Marikawa Alice Maresato zeke all together

Highschool of the Dead is an anime that is much more than just an ecchi romance anime and was very enjoyable overall, with thought-provoking episodes.

Summary

A mysterious illness is spreading rapidly through the halls of Fujimi High School. In a matter of hours, the campus is transformed from a place of learning into a hive of nightmares, as the infected students collapse and are reborn as flesh-hungry zombies! Only a handful of students escape the initial outbreak — among them Takashi Komuro and his childhood friend, Rei. He manages to protect Rei from the initial onslaught, but how long can Takashi and the other students hope to survive when the whole school – maybe the whole town — is out for their blood?!

Even if you are not into ecchi romance anime there is enough action, comedy, suspense and some interesting characters to make it enjoyable on that aspect alone.

11. Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry (Chivalry of a Failed Knight)

Episodes 12 | Aired Fall 2015 | Produced by Silver Link., Nexus

Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry Chivalry of a Failed Knight Ikki Kurogane Stella Vermillion ecchi looking at him

Chivalry of a Failed Knight is an ecchi romance anime that seem generic at first glance but is an incredible series with a simple straightforward plot and amazing action sequences that make it a gem.

Summary

In a time and place where one’s soul can be morphed into a weapon, there are modern-day magicians called Mage-Knights. Although Kurogane Ikki is a student at an institution that trains Mage-Knights, he has no particular talent in magic and is labeled the “Failure Knight” or “Worst One.” Getting way less than average marks in the scorings, he was forced to repeat a year. But with the arrival of a new head of the institution, a new rule was created: knights whose abilities are compatible, as decided by the board, must share rooms and attend practice and training together throughout their school years to bring up their abilities to the max. It is a rule to implement the absolute verdict of ability.

Ikki’s roommate, Stella Vermillion, turns out to be a princess of another foreign country. Stella is a Rank A knight: the type of genius in magic who only appears once a decade. When Ikki walked in on her while she was changing her clothes, it caused a huge misunderstanding (since neither yet knew of the new rule) which eventually ended up in a duel between the two of them. The punishment (or as some might see it, the prize) of the losing side is Eternal Submission to the winning side.

Forced to live the same room and practice magic together throughout all their school years, how will Stella and Ikki’s relationship evolve?

Chivalry of a Failed Knight is a series I would recommend to anyone who likes battle tourney trope, romance and ecchi. It definitely has a little bit for everyone to love and enjoy.

Yamada’s First Time B-gata H-kei Yamada Takashi Kosuda resting on his shoulder

Yamada’s First Time: B-gata H-kei is not purely fanservice, there is actually a very funny story, with moments that make you laugh. It has the right balance of comedy and seriousness.

Trinity Seven Arata Kasuga Lilith Asami Mira Yamana Akio Fudou Sora angry surprised laughing tired

Trinity Seven is an ecchi romance anime with a likeable lead and charming female characters. It’s one of the anime which I have really enjoyed.

7. To LOVE-Ru

Episodes 64 + OVA | Aired Spring 2008 | Produced by Xebec

To LOVE-Ru Lala Satalin Deviluke Rito Yuuki Zastin Mikan Yuuki eating hotpot together

To LOVE-Ru is just mindless comedic fun entertainment. The plot is pretty stupid but makes up for it being funny and entertaining.

Summary

Rito is a high-school boy who just can’t confess to the girl of his dreams, Haruna-chan. One day when coming home and sulking in the bath-tub, a mysterious and barely clothed girl appears out of nowhere. Her name is Lala and she comes from another planet…

To LOVE-Ru is an ecchi anime for someone who just wants to watch something with a change of pace or an anime that doesn’t take itself too seriously with likeable characters, nice music and voice acting.

6. Shuffle!

Episodes 36 | Aired Summer 2005 | Produced by Asread

shuffle-anime-manga Kareha Kaede Fuyou Lisianthus Eustoma Rin Tsuchimi Nerine Asa Shigure looking at something suprised disappointed

A cast of beautiful girls and one guy is definitely what a ecchi romance anime should be. The plot was done in a way that with each episode we got to understand and relate with our characters more. Shuffle! is definitely a classic series that an ecchi anime and most romance anime fans will enjoy.

5. Sora no Otoshimono: Forte (Heaven’s Lost Property: Forte)

Episodes 25 + OVA | Aired Fall 2009 | Produced by AIC A.S.T.A.

Sora no Otoshimono Forte Heaven's Lost Property Forte Ikaros Nymph Tomoki Sakurai Sohara Mitsuki on their lap with wine

Heaven’s Lost Property: Forte is the second season of the series of Heaven’s Lost Property and is actually 12 episodes but with the first season is 25. And was just as good as the first season. Heaven’s Lost Property: Forte is an ecchi comedy at heart, with amazing characters, music and plot.

Summary

Sakurai Tomoki is a normal student whose motto is “normal is the best“. If there is one thing abnormal, it is that he often dreams of a girl whose face he cannot even remember, and when he wakes up from that dream, he would always be crying. He tried leaving it as just a dream… but one day, from the sky, an angel descended.

Heaven’s Lost Property: Forte is a legitimately fun ecchi romance comedy that I definitely recommend anyone who likes this genre to give a try if you haven’t seen it already.

4. Zero no Tsukaima (The Familiar of Zero)

Episodes 49 + OVA | Aired Summer 2006 | Produced by J.C.Staff

Zero no Tsukaima The Familiar of Zero Louise Françoise Le Blanc de La Vallière Saito Hiraga Malicorne de Grandple at party shy

The Familiar of Zero is more than just a simple and fun ecchi romance anime but it has depth with it’s character development, intrigue and romance.

Saenai Heroine no Sodatekata Saekano How to Raise a Boring Girlfriend Megumi Katou Utaha Kasumigaoka Eriri Spencer Sawamura Tomoya Aki Michiru Hyoudou working on a project

Saekano: How to Raise a Boring Girlfriend is an ecchi romance anime with a simple and interesting plot. That was funny and felt like a fresh take on a rarely used plot.

Summary

A high school otaku named Aki Tomoya runs into his dream girl one day… Now with his otaku passions, Tomoya wants to turn the girl into a heroine in the only realm he is familiar with: 2D dating simulation game. To accomplish this objective, he scouts Eriri Spencer Sawamura, his half-foreigner childhood friend equipped with artistic talent, as the illustrator, Kasumigaoka Utaha, a famous prodigy writer, as the script writer and cousin Michiru Hyoudou to compose music. The tale of a small not quite doujin circle, but not quite indie studio’s journey through the tough territory of comiket and beyond.

About an otaku with a dream to create a new game that’s better than anything out there, with a group of talented friends, I think it’s something we can all relate with at some level. Saekano: How to Raise a Boring Girlfriend was funny and definitely a breath of fresh air. And definitely for moe, ecchi, comedy and visual novel fans.

2. Hajimete no Gal (My First Girlfriend is a Gal)

Episodes 10 + OVA | Aired Summer 2017 | Produced by NAZ

Hajimete no Gal My First Girlfriend is a Gal Ranko Honjou Yukana Yame Junichi Hashiba eating talking surprised

My First Girlfriend is a Gal is an ecchi romance anime that to enjoy, one must understand it is not meant to be taken seriously.  I would recommend to new fans of the genre but maybe not to many veteran fans who have watched a lot of this genre.

Summary

Spring the “season of love” has arrived and it seems that finding himself a girlfriend was harder than Junichi Hashiba believed. To break the status quo, Junichi’s friends have forced him into confessing to the gyaru, Yame Yukana. However, things do not go quite as he expected. A series of firsts begins!

My First Girlfriend is a Gal character felt and interacted in a way that felt true to their character. My First Girlfriend is a Gal is a fantastic show, if you love comedy, slightly perverted jokes, ecchi, romance or a slice of life series that isn’t super innocent.

1. Bakemonogatari

Episodes 15 | Aired Summer 2009 | Produced by Shaft

Bakemonogatari Ghostory Hitagi_Senjougahara Koyomi_Araragi Tsubasa_Hanekawa Mayoi_Hachikuji Suruga_Kanbaru Nadeko Sengoku Shinobu Oshino Karen_Araragi Tsukihi_Araragi some of the cast

Bakemonogatari is different from other ecchi romance anime in that even if you took out the ecchi and romance elements it would still be entertaining.

Summary

Bakemonogatari centres on Koyomi Araragi, a third-year high school student who is almost human again after briefly becoming a vampire. One day, a classmate named Hitagi Senj?gahara, who infamously never talks to anyone, falls down the stairs into Koyomi’s arms. He discovers that Hitagi weighs next to nothing, in defiance of physics. After being threatened by her, Koyomi offers his help, and introduces her to Meme Oshino, a strange middle-aged man living in an abandoned building, who cured him of being a vampire…

Bakemonogatari follows Araragi as he attempts to help those who suffer from supernatural maladies.

There is a lot to love for everyone in Bakemonogatari from the in-depth character conversations, fourth-wall-breaking, sleek art, the supernatural, romance and last but not least let’s not forget the ecchi. Bakemonogatari is brilliant.

So that’s all thank you for delving into the deep end of harem and ecchi romance anime with me. These anime have sweet moments perfectly tied in with some innuendo humour to spice things up.

Did you like my recommendations or you think there is an anime missing in my list? Leave a comment will like to hear your thoughts.
