Hello everyone, today I want to talk about some of the best and fun indie games for Android that I have played, that’s given me hours and hours of gameplay or made me go into zombie game mode where I saw nothing but the game and there was nothing but the game haha.
Its been ten years now since the android was announced and since its release we have seen hundreds of thousands of games being added to Google Play Store and App Store, some are really great why others are crappy, making you wonder how you were ever deceived my the trailer video and shiny pictures.
But there is nothing better than finding that gem in the valley of rocks, something you just can’t wait to play again and again! especially when you need to kill time
So let’s get started;
Kingdom Wars
Developed by Springcomes
In this game you will be face an evil army and pushing them back and destroying their bases before they can destroy yours is the goal of the game. Kingdom Wars is a real-time stategy-based game, the battles take place inside a 2D setting where each army is placed on opposite sides of the screen.
I just loved every moment of it maybe its cause it reminded me of games I use to play when I was simple but it was fun, simple and very easy to play.
Gameplay
You receive a small amount of food that you can either use to recruit stronger soldiers or to increase your food production. The gold you get will be used for either upgrading troops, structures, enhancement and production rate, and boosters that can change the tide of battle.
The key is to create a balance between recruiting soldiers and increasing food production to protect your castle and destroy the enemy castle.
Final Thoughts
Kingdom Wars is a fun and simple 2D strategy-based game. That really takes me back to when I was younger with its pixellated Visuals and colossal amount of levels. It’s a game you can play on your commute on you way somewhere or queuing up, whatever it is this game is a time killer.
Solbot Energy Rush
Developed by FreakoutGames
Indie Prize Finalist at Casual Connect Asia 2018. It is a fun casual game about a robot flying and collecting energy spheres, the game promotes awareness about energy sustainability, which is always a vision of FreakoutGames.
The game drew inspiration from a previous game jam theme while designing a game around colour changing mechanics and drawing inspiration from megaman.
Gameplay
It’s a simple one Tap control system. Set in space, players control a robot named “Solbot” on a mission to collect renewable energy to help power the human race.
Testing player’s reaction time, player’s will dodge tricky patterns and learn facts about renewable energy. With 50 levels and 5 different power-ups, robot’s suit color keep changing with levels and player have to collect same color orbs matching Solbot suit color.
Final Thoughts
The game itself is engaging, simple and a fast-paced retro arcade game with a good social message. But I did see a development concept drawing that seemed like would have made the game even better.
But it is a simple and solid game I think sometimes. It runs smoothly with a things that distinguish it from other games and I find myself coming back to play it over and over. It’s a time killer when I am having spare moments, everyone should have on their phones.
Game Dev Tycoon
Developed by Greenheart Games
It is a business simulation game and I am always crazy about them especially gaming business simulation haha, own your own video game development company and go from zero to a household name, creating best-selling games and your own gaming console.
Gameplay
You create your video gaming company and start from your garages in the 80s, trying to create the best-selling games, researching new technology, inventing new game types, hiring staff, expand your company to become the leader of the market and gain fans worldwide.
Final Thoughts
I really enjoy this business simulation and when you played the harder mode you had to worry about piracy of your games which was a subtle reminder of how piracy destroys the gaming industry. It was very realistic and I ended up and could end up bankrupt at anytime if I made decisions carelessly.
I just honestly wished they added more features, more levels and gaming awards against under gaming companies and just more, cause it was such a great game trying to find that balance.
Deep Town: Mining Factory
Developed by Rockbite Games
It’s a science fiction strategy game or has Rockbite would like to describe it an “underground city builder of sort” where you play as an AI, with a sole aim to mine, craft and multiply as you dig deep.
Gameplay
You see your AI land on the planet and from there on out, the game is all about drilling for minerals, digging deeper down, building factories and exploring your planet.
Drilling is the main activity of the game, while you construct underground buildings, invent tools, explore caves and finding out about the history of the planet. Upgrading tools, crafting new ones or just increasing in number to dig deep.
Final Thoughts
It’s a great game but after a while, the repetition and waiting for access to new areas or upgrading completion can become somewhat tedious but its a game you will love especially if you are a steam punk and there are story elements to urge you to keep playing.
Undervault
Developed by Andriy Bychkovskyi
Platforms: Android
A Google Play indie games contest finalist, Undervault is a role-playing game with random levels and perma-death.
Gameplay
Luck is integral to the gameplay and survival. Game level has rooms of different types (kitchen, bedroom, treasury etc.). Some rooms are unknown and found with luck, or by using a room card.
Pass through monsters, learn skills, get equipment and trade. Fight with hunger and fatigue. And most importantly plan every move in the dungeon carefully to succeed!
Final Thoughts
If you like simple roguelike game, give this a try. It can be a very unfair and unforgiving game where the odds are always against you but that makes it very interesting and every play through is always different so you can never say you have really mastered it. The overall concept and the look of the game is great.
It is very addictive and fun but can get frustrating because of the amount of times you will die in the game.
Have any of the 5 piqued your interest? or is there one you thought should have been on the list? Let us know in the comments.
