Chitogeโs aggressive personality and constant arguing mirror the same energy as Iroha picking fights with Akiteru. Both guys just want a calm life, but these demanding girls keep dragging them into chaos.
That’s not where the similarities between these two shows end. Similar to Raku, Akiteru is actually forced into a fake romantic relationship with his cousin, Mashiro Tsukinomori, for family reasons. While he doesnโt have real feelings for Mashiro, the awkward situation gives Iroha endless opportunities to tease and pick on him, leading to plenty of funny misunderstandings and chaotic moments.

This is exactly what Akiteru goes through with Iroha constantly interrupting his normal life.
Unlike other harem anime,The Quintessential Quintuplets has a solid plot and personality development. Each sister shows a different type of stubborn personality, from openly mean to secretly sweet. The tutoring scenes are really funny because the girls don’t make it easy for him. The story actually cares about who he connects with, and guessing which sister heโll choose will make even the biggest harem hater entertained.
4. Don’t Toy With Me, Miss Nagatoro
The title says it all. This show perfected the art of “bullying equals affection” way before it became a mainstream trope. Nagatoro finds Senpai drawing manga and decides to make fun of him every single day after school. She acts really mean and calls him names, but you can tell she actually enjoys spending time with him. Senpai puts up with all her teasing because he’s too nice to tell her to go away, just like how Akiteru tolerates Iroha’s behavior.

Now, Chizuru acts differently depending on whether sheโs working or just being herself, and somehow, even after 380 manga chapters, we still don’t know how it’ll end.
The fake or forced intimacy in both situations gradually becomes meaningful, whether itโs Chizuruโs rental relationship or Iroha inserting herself into Akiteruโs daily routine.
You’ll laugh at all the awkward situations and cringeworthy moments where characters make everything worse by misunderstanding each other. While frustrating at times, it’s a good choice for people who love complicated relationship drama.
6. My Youth Romantic Comedy Is Wrong, As I Expected
Weโve all met that one person who thinks theyโre too cool for everyone else. Hachiman is a loner who doesnโt want to deal with people, but he gets forced into the Service Club, where he has to help solve other studentsโ problems. The main girl, Yukino, acts cold and distant to everyone, but sheโs really just protecting herself from getting hurt. Hachimanโs sarcastic thoughts about everyone around him are both funny and relatable, and the club setting gives the characters a reason to spend time together despite their personality conflicts.

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood nails everything, ranging from badass action through real emotional punches to deep, thoughtful stuff, without ever feeling heavy. If there is a king of storytelling done right, this series easily takes the crown. The Elric brothers’ journey is filled with moral dilemmas and personal growth, set against a richly developed world. It strikes that sweet spot between laughs and serious moments, so youโre never bored.
Gintama is one of a kind. Itโs stupidly funny one minute and then hits you with emotional gut-punches the next. It somehow juggles parody, chaos, and legit powerful storytelling without ever losing its heart.
The show is set in an alternate Edo period where aliens have invaded Earth, and samurai Gintoki Sakata takes on odd jobs with his friends to make ends meet, leading to hilarious and action-packed adventures.

Made in Abyss looks super cute at first. The characters have that almost chibi-like art style, and it all seems kinda whimsical. But donโt let that fool you. Not only does it get dark quickly, but it also gets sad just as fast. The anime somehow mixes breathtaking, otherworldly beauty with some seriously gruesome moments, so you’re constantly torn between “wow” and “oh no.”
Set in a world where a massive, mysterious pit called the Abyss stretches deep into the earth, the story follows a brave girl named Riko who dreams of becoming a legendary Cave Raider like her mother. When she meets a strange robot boy named Reg, the two set off on a dangerous journey into the depths.
6. Attack on Titan
In a world besieged by giant humanoid creatures known as Titans, humanity’s remnants reside within massive walled cities. After a colossal Titan breaches the outer wall, young Eren Yeager vows to eradicate every Titan, joining the military to fight back.
Attack on Titan is the kind of series you show your friend when they say anime is just for kids. With its intense storyline and exploration of mature themes like freedom, oppression, and the human condition, it quickly proves otherwise. Not to mention, it has one of the best plot twists in anime history.
7. Samurai Champloo
Samurai Champloo is about samurai and katana fights. Do I really have to say more?
A mixture of both the past and present, its story is packed full of fillers, and thatโs what made Samurai Champloo so great. Its journey, not necessarily the destination. The destination was great too, but the show does so much more than it needed to. Normally, mixing so many things into a plot could be bad, but Samurai Champloo does it wonderfully. And the traveling companions are like water and oil.
Itโs a show for everyone. Thereโs plenty of great sword-slashing action, clever comedy, and a good share of moments that will tug at your heartstrings, often all at once.
8. Spy x Family
In Spy x Family, we meet Loid Forger, a top-tier spy who builds a fake family for a mission. He marries Yor, a kind woman whoโs secretly an assassin, and adopts Anya, a telepathic girl who knows the truth but just wants a real family.
None of them know each otherโs real identity (except Anya), and her reactions are comedy gold.
Spy x Family is universally loved by most people fortunate enough to come across it, and itโs not hard to see why. It’s funny, wholesome, stylish, and easy to get into, even if you donโt usually watch anime. It doesnโt rely on heavy lore, weird tropes, or anything confusing. Moreover, its English dub is surprisingly good.
9. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba
Among the newer anime, Demon Slayer (2019) stole the spotlight, and honestly, my heart too, with its gorgeous animation and emotional storytelling. The main guy might seem like your typical shounen hero at first, but that doesnโt take away from how beautifully built the world is or how powerful his journey feels. Itโs packed with action, but it also hits hard emotionally in a way you donโt always expect.
In this anime, after demons slaughter his family and turn his sister Nezuko into one, Tanjiro Kamado joins the Demon Slayer Corps to avenge his family and find a cure for Nezuko.
10. March Comes in Like a Lion
The animation and soundtrack in this anime are amazing. It’s one of those series that is much more than it appears on the surface, with plenty of layers and depth.
March Comes in Like a Lion follows Rei Kiriyama, a young boy who loses his parents and sister in an accident. He is left to live with a family friend, where things take a darker turn, leading him to become a professional shogi player.
March Comes in Like a Lion is a powerful coming-of-age story about overcoming depression, and it really helped me understand myself a bit more. It even got me to try my hand at shogi, though Iโm no Rei Kiriyama!
11. Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash
Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash is a unique anime that really felt realistic to me. We watched our characters go from 0 to not a 100, but they did get a bit better. With each of their interactions and the plot, I noticed this. I really felt like these were characters I would love to laugh, cry, and go on adventures with.
With a great story, characters, art, and sound, it really is a shame it was only 12 episodes. Iโm still waiting patiently for a second season. Until then, I still go back now and then to watch the 12 episodes we have so far. With its large main cast, it was still able to balance between the group and the individuals, and thatโs a very hard task to carry out.
12. 86
In a dystopian future, the Republic of San Magnolia claims to be fighting a war with drones, but the truth is that the oppressed โ86โ are forced to pilot mechs. The story follows Lena, a handler from the Republic, and Shin, a battle-hardened 86 soldier, as they slowly form a bond across the divide.
86 (2021)is one of the best newer anime out there, and fans are eagerly waiting for season 2 to be announced. While the description sounds bleak, 86 isn’t just grim; it has some genuinely beautiful, hopeful, and even tender moments that hit even harder because of all the darkness around them.
13. Kamisama Kiss
Nanami is a high school girl whoโs down on her luck. Her dad ditches her, sheโs broke, and she ends up homeless. But then she saves a weird guy from a dog, and heโs like, โHey, you can have my house.โ Totally normal… except that โhouseโ turns out to be a shrine, and suddenly sheโs a land god living with a grumpy yet handsome fox familiar.
Kamisama Kiss is sweet and funny, and it has actual relationship development. Not just endless flirting with no payoff. Those who like a sprinkle of fantasy, a sprinkle of mischief, and a whole lot of heart, Kamisama Kiss finely hits the spot.
14. KonoSuba
God’s Blessing on this Wonderful World! is very good too. It may look like any other RPG harem, but it is so much more than that.
Itโs not a show trying to teach you any life lessons; itโs just a show full of entertainment, hilarious moments, and lightheartedness.
Hereโs another lesser-known anime that Rai (from Raiโs Anime Blog) and I talked about recently. It features a cross-dressing male character and a young otaku surrounded by her fellow otaku friends.

16. Fruits Basket
Iโve always loved both the Fruits Basket manga and the original 2001 anime, even though there were some differences. A heartwarming story, the series follows a girl who becomes entangled with a family cursed to transform into animals of the Chinese zodiac.
The 2019 remake takes things up a notch. It follows the manga much more closely, and you can tell that Natsuki Takaya was more involved this time around.
17. Bokura wa Minna Kawai-sou
Bokura wa Minna Kawai-sou is a great shoujo to watch that doesn’t seem rushed, especially with just 12 episodes.
The art and sound were amazing, and the characters were all so lovely and quirky (but in a good way). I really think everyone will see a bit of themselves in one of the characters.
My joy for this anime surprised me because I usually find romance anime not really my thing, but the love in this anime felt really believable and puts a spin on the usual boy meets girl, boy confesses his feelings, and they share a kiss. But it was different this time; the comedy and great characters really bring the story to life and make you love every moment of the anime.
18. Inuyasha
Of course, Inuyasha is my favorite. It was my first real anime, and I quickly fell in love with the story and the adorable hanyou (half-demon, half-human).
Now, Fairy Tail is one of those mainstream anime that you either love or hate. Personally, I loved the artwork and the many plotlines that kept things exciting. I canโt even count how many times I bawled my eyes out while watching this show.
Family and friendship are things everyone connects with, and theyโre at the heart of a lot of shounen, with Fairy Tail being no exception. Itโs exactly that bond between the fleshed-out characters that makes this series so great. Fairy Tail is one of those series I always recommend for newcomers since it’s easy to follow, filled with epic fights, goofy banter, and a wholesome theme.
20. Shugo Chara
Not many people know about this one, but I absolutely love it. As a kid, I related to it so much. It even gave me the courage to embrace being the “weird anime kid” in school and helped me feel less alone.
The artwork might be a bit odd (especially the eyes), but that doesnโt stop me from loving it. Itโll always hold a special place in my heart.

This anime is like a big, warm hug. No drama, no life-or-death plotsโjust a bunch of high school girls forming a band and eating cake in the clubroom a lot. Yui, the clumsy guitarist, is so adorable that you canโt help but smile.
Every episode is basically a serotonin booster, and if you’re feeling down, itโs the kind of light-hearted chaos you need. Music, friendship, and fluffy vibes all the way. 10/10 comfort anime, no notes.
9. My Ordinary Life
My Ordinary Life might have “ordinary” in the title, but it’s anything but ordinary. Itโs completely random, like laugh-so-hard-you-cry kind of random. One second thereโs a girl wrestling a deer, the next, a principal is flying through the air. The deadpan humor mixed with insane situations just works.
The show follows the daily antics of three high school friendsโYลซko Aioi, Mio Naganohara, and Mai Minakamiโand their interactions with an eight-year-old genius inventor, her robot caretaker, and a talking cat.
If youโre ever crying on the floor and need a reason to laugh again, this anime will totally pull you up. Trust me, itโs a mood.
8. Barakamon
Ughhh, this one hit me right in the soul. It’s about a grumpy calligrapher who escapes city life and ends up on a quiet island with a bunch of chaotic localsโincluding the most adorable little girl, Naru, who basically steals the show.
Barakamon is one of those shows that just feels calming. Itโs got plenty of funny moments, but it also hits you with some meaningful lessons about life and growth. Itโs the kind of anime that makes you smile and think at the same time.
7. My Roommate is a Cat
This oneโs for all my introvert-anxiety besties. The main guy loses his parents and suddenly ends up living with a stray cat named Haru. What makes this anime super special is that you get to hear both the humanโs and the catโs perspective. In fact, it’s the simple moments they share that are so uplifting.
All in all, itโs sweet, quiet, and sometimes emotional, but in the best way. Perfect for rainy days and curling up with a blanket (and maybe your own cat ๐พ).
6. Komi Canโt Communicate
Komi is the shy queen of our dreams. She literally canโt talk to anyone and yet somehow ends up becoming the schoolโs most admired girl. Watching her slowly open up and make friends is so wholesome that it hurts. Not to mention, while it tackles serious themes, it still maintains a funny and lighthearted tone with a major feel-good energy.
The art is beautiful, the humor is on point, and the whole thing just makes you root for her so hard.
5. InuYasha
InuYasha was the first real anime and manga series that I read. I quickly fell in love with the characters from feudal and modern Japan. It follows Kagome, a human girl, who is transported to feudal Japan, where she meets Inuyasha, a half-demon trapped by a sacred arrow. Together, they search for the shattered pieces of the Shikon no Tama, a jewel that grants wishes, while battling enemies and making new friends along the way.
This is a great anime series if you want something cute with a bit of the older Sailor Moon type of feel. Itโs nostalgic, and the romance and laughter will keep you smiling for a while. Not to mention, it inspired so many great fanfictions!
4. Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir
I just discovered this anime last year when I was going through anime music videos. Depression had hit me hard, and I decided to give this anime a chance. By the first episode, I was hooked! And I do mean, soul-consuming, forget everything else hooked.
In this show, Marinette and Adrien, armed with magical Miraculous jewels, transform into Ladybug and Chat Noir to protect Paris from akumas sent by the villain Hawkmoth, all while keeping their identities a secret.
This anime is just super cute. The second season was just released, and Iโm still hopelessly waiting for the next episode. The best(and most frustrating) part of the show is that Marinette is in love with Adrien, Adrien is in love with Ladybug, and Chat Noir loves Ladybug. Theyโre basically in love with each other, and itโs adorable and laugh-out-loud funny. Not to mention, itโll make you throw your pillows at the tv screen.
3. Shugo Chara
Shugo Chara was one of the first anime I watched in high school. The story centers around Amu Hinamori, an elementary school girl with a “cool and spicy” exterior, who wishes for the courage to be her true self. The next morning, she discovers three colorful eggs that hatch into Guardian Characters: Ran, Miki, and Su.
Amuโs Guardian Characters help her discover her true self and fulfill her dreams. As she struggles with her “would-be” selves, Amu learns to “chara-nari” (character transform) or “character change” for special powers, both offensive and practical. Eventually, Amu is recruited as the “Joker” to search for X Eggs and X Characters, corrupted forms of people’s dreams, which the Guardians aim to purify.
Shugo Chara will give you all the feels and remind you of what it was like to be a child againโbefore depression took over, when you still knew what you wanted to do and who you wanted to be in life.
2. Himouto! Umaru Chan
Iโm sure youโve already seen the pictures for this one. Basically, Umaru Doma is considered the perfect person, but once sheโs home, she turns into a lazy, selfish chibi character that just games and watches anime all day while eating snacks and drinking cola. Honestly, she sounds exactly like me!
So, if you ever feel like you’re overwhelmed with adult responsibilities, watching Umaru embrace her lazy side without any worries is sure to bring a smile to your face.
1. Ouran High School Host Club
I just HAD to include Ouran High on this list. When I first watched this, it captured my attention quickly. Basically, Haruhi Fujioka goes to Ouran High on scholarships while most everyone else is just a rich kid that goes. She goes into Music Room 3 and accidentally breaks a vase in front of the eccentric members she meets there, and they make her work it off as their errand boy. I say, boy, because, since she has a tomboyish figure and short hair, they mistake her as a male instead of a female at first.
Most of us have already heard of anime shows like Naruto,Bleach, and One Piece. They’re classics and highly talked about. But there are some anime shows that don’t get as much hype but deserve so much more. Let’s show a little love to some of these super awesome yet underrated anime shows and give them the love they deserve!
1. DNAngel

I think I read the manga for this one before I saw the anime. It was super cute, though. I rewatched this a couple of times and still love the story. It’s simple, but that’s one of the reasons that makes it so amazing. It touches your heart and reminds you of a simpler time.
The MC, Daisuke, is an angel stealing artwork in hopes of preventing world destruction, if you put it in very simple terms.
Fun fact: Vic Mignogna (Edward Elric, Tamaki Suoh, Zero Kiryu) does the English opening song, and it’s truly beautiful!
2. Devils Line

I’ve done a couple of reviews of this anime already. I haven’t seen a ton of fans talking about it, hence, I would say it’s a pretty underrated anime. In fact, if you search for it, you might get a couple of images, but there’s a lot of mature content mixed in with some sketchy stuff. If you do go looking for it, make sure to add anime after it, or it could lead to some pretty dark places.
So far, I’m really enjoying this story. Vampires live alongside humans but have to be super careful because they are stronger and can easily hurt humans. They can also go into a frenzy and will kill if they see blood. Naturally, there is discrimination against them and harsh laws restricting their lifestyles because they are considered dangerous, and it is very easy for them to lose control.
Despite that, the vampires are essentially humans underneath. Most just want to live their lives, go to work, fall in love, and not be hated by everyone.
3. Full Moon o Sagashite

This is another super awesome yet underrated anime. Even though it is different compared to the mang, I still loved it. It was one of my first OTP’s and ships and I cried through both the anime and the manga.
We follow Mitsuki Kouyama, a young girl with throat cancer, who dreams of becoming a professional singer and reaching her friend Eichi, who moved to America. When two shinigami reveal she only has a year left to live, Mitsuki decides to chase her dream with their help, despite the risks.
4. Orb: On the Movements of the Earth

Genres: Historical, Mystery, Science Fiction
Orb: On the Movements of the Earth is a historical drama set in a time when science and philosophy were still forming. It follows a young boy named Orb, who becomes fascinated by the movement of the Earth and the universe. He embarks on a journey to discover the truths of the world, struggling to balance his personal beliefs with the teachings around him.
Honestly, I loved how slow and thoughtful the story was. It felt almost meditative, like it gave me space to reflect on my own perspectives. The animation was super unique and elegant, though there were a few moments where it was a bit tricky to follow. The character development was really subtle, which I appreciated. Also, Orbโs growth wasnโt rushed at all. Itโs definitely not a show for everyone, but it has this quiet charm that I really connected with!
5. Slam Dunk

Slam Dunk is a classic sports anime that follows Hanamichi Sakuragi, a high school delinquent who gets roped into playing basketball to impress a girl. He starts off clueless and clumsy, but over time, he discovers a love for the sport and works hard to improve his skills.
I absolutely loved Slam Dunk. The humor was spot-on, and the character development was amazing. Hanamichiโs awkwardness and sheer determination made him super relatable and I found myself getting way more invested in the games than I expected.
What I loved the most was how Slam Dunk balanced comedy and drama. It never took itself too seriously, but it still hit you with some really emotional moments. Itโs one of those feel-good anime that just makes you want to root for the underdog, and honestly, I was cheering for Hanamichi and his team from start to finish!
6. Space Brothers

Genres: Drama, Sci-Fi, Slice of Life
Space Brothers tells the story of two brothers, Hibito and Mutta, who share a childhood dream of becoming astronauts. While Hibito achieves his goal and lands on the moon, Mutta struggles with setbacks and self-doubt, but his determination keeps him pushing forward.
Warning: this show will definitely hit you right in the feels. Itโs not just about space missionsโitโs also about the personal growth of the characters. Watching Muttaโs journey was like following a real person, someone who isnโt perfect but gives it their all.
The pacing was great, and even though there were slow moments, they always built up to something meaningful.
Mononoke is one of those shows that stands out for its creativity. The narrative style is pretty unconventional, and it forces you to think deeply about the themes of regret, guilt, and human nature. Too bad itโs still one of the most underrated psychological anime, despite airing all the way back in 2007.
I was totally blown away by how the art and animation matched the eerie, unsettling vibe of the storyโit’s unlike anything I’ve seen before. Itโs definitely not an easy watch, but the complexity and boldness of it all make it so worth it.
The series follows the Medicine Seller, a mysterious traveler who hunts down evil spirits called mononoke. But hereโs the twist: to defeat them, he has to figure out their mononokeโbasically the key to their power, which is tied to their Form, Truth, and Regret.
8. Medalist

Medalist follows the journey of a young figure skater named Maru, who, after a series of unfortunate events, is determined to make a name for herself in the competitive world of figure skating.
I have to admit, I didnโt expect to get so emotionally invested in Medalist. The way it explores the pressures of competitive sports really hit home for me, and Maruโs perseverance through hardship was inspiring. The skating sequences were beautifully animated, capturing the elegance and intensity of the sport.
For those who like stories about pushing through adversity with a lot of heart, Medalist is a must-watch!
9. Girls Band Cry

Another underrated and niche anime is Girls Band Cry. The show centers around a group of high school girls who form a rock band to cope with their personal struggles and express their emotions through music.
Even though I am not into musical anime, I unexpectedly enjoyed it. In this case, the music really helped set the tone for the emotional moments. The characters are relatable and authentic, so connecting to their personal journeys was fairly easy. All in all, I found myself rooting for them to find their way and overcome their struggles.
10. Cross Game

Just by looking at the key visual, you might think that Cross Game is just another straightforward sports anime. But youโd be wrong! Cross Game skillfully combines sports with deep emotional moments, resulting in a heartfelt story with a blend of sports action and relatable characters who struggle, make mistakes, and also grow along the way.
Cross Game follows the life of Kou, a talented baseball player who is struggling with the sudden death of his childhood friend, Wakaba. As he deals with grief, family pressures, and the game he loves, he finds unexpected support from her younger sister, Aoba, whoโs also passionate about baseball.

Season 2 will be another wild ride with the eccentric detective. Expect more crazy cases, weird people, and even weirder solutions.
14. Blue Exorcist: Beyond the Snow Saga

Blue Exorcist is a classic school-set shonen anime with a likable main character at its core. While some may find it clichรฉ, the series does a good job at gently tackling relatable themes like friendship, feeling like an outcast, and family. It may not be as deep as other popular shounen like Attack on Titan or FMA but it still offers a solid, engaging story and lovable characters.
Following their victory over the Impure King, Rin and his friends return to True Cross Academy, only to encounter a series of strange events. At the school festival, Lucifer from the Illuminati arrives and declares war, intending to merge the human and demon realms by resurrecting Satan.
13. Sakamoto Days

One day, a legendary assassin meets a shop lady and quickly falls in love with her. Embracing his new life, he retires from his deadly profession. Despite his retirement, the assassin’s skills remain sharp, and he defeats the agent. Recognizing the assassin’s unmatched abilities, the agent accepts defeat and later joins the shop as a worker. The story follows Sakamoto’s new life as he balances family, business, and his adventurous encounters with various agents sent to claim his bounty.
Dragon Ball Daima is a new Dragon Ball anime series where Goku and his friends are magically turned into children. They embark on a new adventure to find a way to reverse the transformation and uncover the mystery behind it.
Daima was initially planned as an anime-original series without Akira Toriyama’s input. However, after offering some advice, Toriyama became deeply involved, creating the story, world, characters, mechs, and more. He handled the story, settings, and many of the designs.
11. Blue Box

There are several great shounen sports anime like Haikyuu or Kuroko’s Basketball, but Blue Box takes a refreshing route by mixing sports with romance.
A coming-of-age story, Blue Box is about a high school boy named Taiki who’s in love with his upperclassman, Chinatsu. They train together every morning, he for badminton and she for basketball. When Chinatsu’s family moves abroad, she ends up living with Taiki’s family, which brings them even closer.
10. The 100 Girlfriends Who, Really, Really, Really Love You Season 2

The 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really, Really Love You Season 2 will continue the chaotic and hilarious journey of Rentaro, the guy who somehow ended up with 100 girlfriends.
The MC, Aijou Rentarou faced 100 heartbreaks in Junior High. Praying at a shrine, he meets the Love God, who reveals Aijou will encounter 100 soulmates in high school. If any relationship fails, the girls will die from unfortunate events. Now, it’s a matter of love or death, and it’s up to Aijou to decide.
9. Shangri-La Frontier Season 2

Shangri-La Frontier follows Rakuro Hizutome, a guy who is solely focused on one thingโovercoming terrible VR games. One day, he decides to challenge himself by playing the popular game “Shangri-La Frontier.” However, he quickly realizes how difficult it is. Will his expert skills be enough to uncover its hidden secrets?
Season 2 will pick up right where season 1 ended, continuing the story with new characters Kyoju and Aramis, who made their debut in the finale.
8. Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online II

6. Bleach: Sennen Kessen-hen – Soukoku-tan

The original Bleach anime ran for a total of 366 episodes from 2004 to 2012. It was a popular series filled with memorable life lessons and quotes that, along with Naruto and One Piece, formed the “big three” of shonen anime.
As for the Sennen Kessen-hen (Thousand-Year Blood War) arc, this final arc is divided into four cours. Bleach: Sennen Kessen-hen – Soukoku-tan is the third part of Bleach: Sennen Kessen-hen. It picks up where Bleach: Sennen Kessen-hen – Ketsubetsu-tan left off.

While watching this series, you won’t be able to help but root for the protagonists. The chemistry between Gojo and Marin is off the charts and you will hope for their friendship to evolve into something more.
While My Dress-up Darling may follow some familiar rom-com tropes, it manages to bring a fresh and enjoyable take to the genre. The series also celebrates the art of cosplay, adding an extra layer of fun for fans of the hobby.

Horimiya is a heartwarming gem in the realm of high school romance anime. At first glance, it may appear like your typical schoolyard love story, but it’s the depth of its characters and the authenticity of their relationships that truly sets it apart.
Horimiya is a delightful blend of high school romance and heartwarming character exploration. It introduces us to Kyoko Hori, a popular and responsible high school girl, and Izumi Miyamura, her quiet and unassuming classmate. They lead seemingly ordinary lives until a chance encounter reveals their hidden personas: Kyoko’s a homebody caring for her younger brother, and Miyamura boasts a striking appearance hidden under a web of piercings and tattoos.
As they share their true selves with each other, their worlds open up, leading to genuine friendship and a budding romance.
I was instantly drawn to the well-developed characters of this anime, particularly Kyoko Hori and Izumi Miyamura (the main couple of the story). They break away from the typical high school anime archetypes. Their complexities, insecurities, and personal growth make them feel like real people dealing with the ups and downs of adolescence.
25. Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun (My Little Monster)

Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun is a unique, sweet, very cute, and very wholesome series. That tugs away on your heartstrings, which is in rare supply these days.
Shizuku Mizutani is apathetic towards her classmates, only caring about her grades. However, her cold view of life begins to change when she meets Haru Yoshida, a violent troublemaker who stopped attending class after getting into a fight early in the school year. He is not much different from her, thoughโhe too understands little about human nature and does not have any friends. Much to Shizuku’s surprise, he proclaims that she will be his friend and immediately confesses his feelings towards her upon meeting her.
Because of her lack of friends and social interaction, Shizuku has a hard time understanding her relationship with Haru. But slowly, their friendship begins to progress, and she discovers that there is more to Haru than violence. She begins to develop feelings for him but is unsure what kind of emotions she is experiencing. Together, Shizuku and Haru explore the true nature of their relationship and emotions.

It earns a spot on my list for the weirdness and awkwardness that happens when the self-proclaimed bad boy and ice queen, two previously unsocial beings, learn from each other how to care for one another and become close with their friends and family.
And even if the romance disappoints the comedy is sure to deliver you with a lot to laugh about.
24. Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso (Your Lie in April)

It’s a very touching story of love and music healing wounds.

Two years later, Kousei still avoids the piano, leaving behind his admirers and rivals, and lives a colourless life alongside his friends Tsubaki Sawabe and Ryouta Watari. However, everything changes when he meets a beautiful violinist, Kaori Miyazono, who stirs up his world and sets him on a journey to face music again.
Based on the manga series of the same name, Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso approaches the story of Kousei’s recovery as he discovers that music is more than playing each note perfectly, and a single melody can bring in the fresh spring air of April.

The various tenants at Kawai Complex are all quite eccentric characters. Shirosaki, Kazunari’s roommate, is a pervert and masochist; Mayumi Nishikino, a borderline alcoholic office lady, hates couples because of her unfortunate luck with men; and Sayaka Watanabe, a seemingly innocent college student, enjoys leading men on. Shocked with the lack of decent individuals at his new residence, Kazunari is about to leave when he runs into shy senior student Ritsu Kawai and finds himself slowly falling in love with her.

The Kawai Complex Guide to Manors and Hostel Behavior is a shoujo that’s not rushed and will leave you wanting more when you reach the end. It was an enjoyable watch with a lot of humor and laughs, exploring first love through the eyes of two loveable characters.
22. Kimi ni Todoke (From Me to You)

From Me to You is a love story that delivers more than face value and goes beyond what you would expect, setting itself apart from others in the romance genre. Taking all the usual norms and stereotypes and completely changing the rules.
Kuronuma Sawako is completely misunderstood by her classmates. Her timid and sweet demeanour is often mistaken for malicious behaviour. This is due to her resemblance to the ghost girl from “The Ring,” which has led her peers to give her the nickname Sadako. Longing to make friends and live a normal life, she is naturally drawn to Kazehaya Shouta, the most popular guy in class, whose “100% refreshing” personality earns him great admiration from Sawako. So when Kazehaya starts talking to her, maybe there is hope for the friendships Sawako has always longed for. Maybeโฆ there is even a little hope for some romance in her future.

21. Golden Times

Yes, the series was a bit wonky with the whole amnesia plotline, but there is still a lot to love if you can go into it with patience and an open mind.

I laughed, cried, and experienced something that made me think deeply.
Clannad: After Story, the sequel to the critically acclaimed slice-of-life series Clannad, begins after Tomoya Okazaki and Nagisa Furukawa graduate from high school. Unable to decide on a course for his future, Tomoya learns the value of a strong work ethic and discovers the strength of Nagisa’s support. Through the couple’s dedication and unity of purpose, they push forward to confront their personal problems, deepen their old relationships, and create new bonds.
Time also moves on in the Illusionary World. As the plains grow cold with the approach of winter, the Illusionary Girl and the Garbage Doll are presented with a difficult situation that reveals the World’s true purpose.
Based on the visual novel by Key and produced by Kyoto Animation, Clannad: After Story is an impactful drama highlighting the importance of family and the struggles of adulthood.

19. Ao Haru Ride (Blue Spring Ride)

Ao Haru Ride is a refreshing visit to a familiar kind of story type, adding unique elements to make it different.
Futaba Yoshioka used to be an attractive and popular middle-schoolerโwell-liked by the opposite sex, but ostracized by the girls. Nevertheless, she was able to brush all that off, because the only opinion that truly mattered to her was that of Kou Tanaka, a classmate with whom she shared a shelter from rain once, followed by quite a few other precious and significant memories. She even succeeded at making plans to meet with the quiet and innocent boy at the summer festival, but a simple misunderstanding, and Tanaka’s subsequent disappearance, left her walking the halls of her school friendless.
Now in high school, Futaba is not your typical adolescent girl. Determined to become a class favourite this time, she avoids all unwanted attention and, instead of acting cute and feminine, only stands out through her tomboyish behaviour and dishevelled look. But still, her world is soon turned upside down when the only boy she ever liked unexpectedly comes into her life once againโexcept he goes by the name of Kou Mabuchi now, and it is not his name alone that has gone through a sea change.

It’s great when once every full moon an anime like this comes around. Reminding us to try something, we think is the same but ends up being really amazing.
18. Sakurasou no Pet no Kanojo (The Pet Girl of Sakurasou)

Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo is a light in the dark. It plays off as a slice of life drama anime but there is romance at the surface of this series.
When abandoned kittens and his good conscience force second-year Sorata Kanda to move into Suimei High Schoolโs infamous Sakura Hall, the satellite dorm and its eccentric, misfit residents turn his life upside down. The decidedly average Sorata finds it difficult to fit in with the bizarre collection of dorm residents like Misaki, an energetic animator; Jin, a playwright playboy; Ryuunosuke, a reclusive programmer; and Chihiro, the dorm manager, art teacher, and party girl.
Sorata’s friend Nanami, a second-year student and aspiring voice actress, pushes him to find new owners for the many cats so that he can quickly move back into the regular dorms. However, his desire to escape Sakura Hall wavers when the pet-like and infantile second year Mashiro Shiina, a world-class artistic savant looking to become a mangaka, transfers in during the spring trimester and quickly latches onto him.
Supported by each other’s quirks, Sorata and Mashiro come out of their shells and trigger change in the lives of those around them. Based on the light novel series of the same name, Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo explores the fine threads connecting talent, hard work, romance, and friendship with its ensemble cast.

The series has not once caused me to feel bored, lost, or feel any negative emotions but quite the opposite. And the whole love thing didnโt feel forced.
17. Akagami no Shirayuki-hime (Snow White with the Red Hair)

Akagami no Shirayuki-hime is a fantasy world unique and vibrantly colored. It has two wonderful things brought together shoujo and fantasy.
Although her name means “snow white,” Shirayuki is a cheerful, red-haired girl living in the country of Tanbarun who works diligently as an apothecary at her herbal shop. Her life changes drastically when she is noticed by the silly prince of Tanbarun, Prince Raji, who then tries to force her to become his concubine. Unwilling to give up her freedom, Shirayuki cuts her long red hair and escapes into the forest, where she is rescued from Raji by Zen Wistalia, the second prince of a neighbouring country, and his two aides. Hoping to repay her debt to the trio someday, Shirayuki sets her sights on pursuing a career as the court herbalist in Zen’s country, Clarines.
Akagami no Shirayuki-hime depicts Shirayuki’s journey toward a new life at the royal palace of Clarines, as well as Zen’s endeavour to become a prince worthy of his title. As loyal friendships are forged and deadly enemies formed, Shirayuki and Zen slowly learn to support each other as they walk their own paths.

It’s more than just another Snow White story, our heroine is definitely not a damsel in distress that needs saving. You will get attached to the characters, and get lost in the beautiful world that is Akagami no Shirayuki-hime. You will really feel like you are in the story if you give it a chance.
16. Ore Monogatari!! (My Love Story!!)

Ore Monogatari!! takes romance from a different angle than “how did a guy like him get a girl like that…..”
With his muscular build and tall stature, Takeo Gouda is not exactly your average high school freshman. However, behind his intimidating appearance hides a heart of gold, and he is considered a hero by the boys for his courage and chivalry. Unfortunately, these traits do not help much with his love life. As if his looks are not enough to scare the opposite sex away, Takeo’s cool and handsome best friend and constant companion Makoto Sunakawa easily steal the hearts of the female studentsโincluding every girl Takeo has ever liked.
When Takeo gallantly saves cute and angelic Rinko Yamato from being molested, he falls in love with her instantly but suspects that she might be interested in Sunakawa. With his own love for Yamato continuing to bloom, Takeo unselfishly decides to act as her cupid, even as he yearns for his own love story.

And I think it forms an angle most of us can relate with and the whole thing feels more down to earth.

Everything just intertwines so well in the story, it’s hilarious and the story’s progression is perfect and doesn’t feel rushed at all.
15. Kaichou wa Maid-sama! (Maid Sama!)

Kaichou wa Maid-sama! is a simple story without all the usual complexity that sometimes comes with this genre.
Being the first female student council president isn’t easy, especially when your school just transitioned from an all-boys high school to a co-ed one. Aptly nicknamed “Demon President” by the boys for her strict disciplinary style, Misaki Ayuzawa is not afraid to use her mastery of Aikido techniques to cast judgment onto the hordes of misbehaving boys and defend the girls at Seika High School.
Yet even the perfect Ayuzawa has an embarrassing secretโshe works part-time as a maid at a maid cafรฉ to help her struggling family pay the bills. She has managed to keep her job hidden from her fellow students and maintained her flawless image as a stellar student until one day, Takumi Usui, the most popular boy in school, walks into the maid cafรฉ. He could destroy her reputation with her secretโฆ or he could twist the student council president around his little finger and use her secret as an opportunity to get closer to her.

It was relatable, likable, quirky, with a lot of comedic moments and just a completely heart-warming romance that leaves you warm and fuzzy inside.
14. Lovelyโ Complex

An adorably cute and sweet romantic comedy.
Love is unusual for Koizumi Risa and Ootani Atsushi, who are both striving to find their ideal partner in high schoolโ172 cm tall Koizumi is much taller than the average girl, and Ootani is much shorter than the average guy at 156 cm. To add to their plights, their crushes fall in love with each other, leaving Koizumi and Ootani comically flustered and heartbroken. To make matters worse, they’re even labelled as a comedy duo by their homeroom teacher due to their personalities and the stark difference in their heights, and their classmates even think of their arguments as sketches.
Lovelyโ Complex follows Koizumi and Ootani as they encourage each other in finding love and become close friends. Apart from their ridiculous antics, they soon find out an unexpected similarity in their music and fashion tastes. Maybe they possess chemistry yet unknown, but could love ever bloom between the mismatched pair?

This romance anime deals with really sensitive issues such as physical differences like height or weight. And really just learning to love yourself or more accurately accepting yourself and letting people love you for you.
13. Sukitte Ii na yo. (Say “I Love You”)

An anime that really proves that opposites can attract.
Friends will only let you downโthat is the sad truth Mei Tachibana lives with, ever since she was wrongfully blamed for the death of a class pet by her so-called friends in grade school. Since then, she stays away from people in order to avoid ever being hurt again. However, Mei’s life begins to change drastically when a misunderstanding in high school causes her to encounter popular student Yamato Kurosawa.
Yamato finds her intriguing and insists on being her friend, even though Mei wants nothing to do with him. But when a dangerous situation ends with Yamato kissing Mei to save her from the unwanted attention of a stalker, Mei begins to develop feelings for him. On the heels of her discovery that their feelings are mutual, they start dating and she gains not only a boyfriend but friends as well. Mei, however, finds it very hard to adapt to this new lifestyle, especially in expressing her true feelings towards Yamato.
Throughout misunderstandings of their new relationship, each other, and the attentions of other girls, Mei and Yamato slowly grow closer and learn the true meaning of those three little words: “I love you.”

It isn’t a new never-before-seen shoujo but it is a classical one that sticks to its roots, just with a new look but the same classical soul of a shoujo, like a new car just with the same trusted old and reliable engine we know and love. And it’s not an anime that trying to be more than it is. It was warm, sweet, and a story of discovering one’s self.
12. Nana

A tale of heartbreak, love, lust, and punishing the mistakes made by characters. Nana might be the anime for you if you want a realistic story of finding love and maybe some life lessons.
Nana Komatsu is a helpless, naรฏve 20-year-old who easily falls in love and becomes dependent and clingy to those around her. Even though she nurses ambitious dreams of removing herself from her provincial roots and finding her true calling, she ends up travelling to Tokyo with the humble reason of chasing her current boyfriend Shouji Endo.
Nana Osaki, on the other hand, is a proud, enigmatic punk rock vocalist from a similarly rural background, who nurtures the desire to become a professional singer. Putting her career with a fairly popular band (and her passionate romance with one of its former members) firmly behind her, she boards the same train to Tokyo as Nana Komatsu.
Through a fateful encounter in their journey toward the metropolis, the young women with the same given name are brought together, sparking a chain of events which eventually result in them sharing an apartment. As their friendship deepens, the two attempt to support each other through thick and thin, their deeply intertwined lives filled with romance, music, challenges, and heartbreaks that will ultimately test their seemingly unbreakable bond.

You will instantly fall in love with the characters, seeing a bit of you in them. It has plenty of laughs, and tear-jerking moments, and all events seem realistic.
Telling us a lot about life, and it’s hardships and teaching us some important lessons about the mistakes, that we shouldn’t make.
11. Kokoro Connect

Kokoro Connect is one of Japan’s versions of Freaky Friday. It’s a rollercoaster of emotions, awkward situations and all the while making us reflect on having a deeper understanding of each other, like not just judging a person on how they look on the outside.
When five students at Yamaboshi Academy realize that there are no clubs where they fit in, they band together to form the Student Cultural Society or “StuCS” for short. The club consists of Taichi Yaegashi, a hardcore wrestling fan; Iori Nagase, an indecisive optimist; Himeko Inaba, a calm computer genius; Yui Kiriyama, a petite karate practitioner; and Yoshifumi Aoki, the class clown.
One day, Aoki and Yui experience a strange incident when, without warning, they switch bodies for a short period of time. As this supernatural phenomenon continues to occur randomly amongst the five friends, they begin to realize that it is not just fun and games. Now forced to become closer than ever, they soon discover each other’s hidden secrets and emotional scars, which could end up tearing the StuCS and their friendship apart.

Even though this plot has been done many many many times before, it breathes new life into this plot, making it fun, refreshing and giving us a 360 degree of our characters.
10. Toradora!

Toradora! is truly one of my favorite series and that is something coming from a guy who prefers action, fantasy, and adventure, this show has a special place in my mind.
Ryuuji Takasu is a gentle high school student with a love for housework; but in contrast to his kind nature, he has an intimidating face that often gets him labelled as a delinquent. On the other hand is Taiga Aisaka, a small, doll-like student, who is anything but a cute and fragile girl. Equipped with a wooden katana and feisty personality, Taiga is known throughout the school as the “Palmtop Tiger.”
One day, an embarrassing mistake causes the two students to cross paths. Ryuuji discovers that Taiga actually has a sweet side: she has a crush on the popular vice president, Yuusaku Kitamura, who happens to be his best friend. But things only get crazier when Ryuuji reveals that he has a crush on Minori KushiedaโTaiga’s best friend!
Toradora! is a romantic comedy that follows this odd duo as they embark on a quest to help each other with their respective crushes, forming an unlikely alliance in the process.

I really enjoyed Toradora!. There is chemistry about our characters you just can’t help but fall in love with. The show is a bit addictive and you might find yourself watching the whole season in one sit-down. It’s a romance anime for everyone even if you are not a romantic.
9. Romeo ร Juliet

A loosely retelling of William Shakespeare’s play of the same name.
On the floating continent of Neo Verona, the Montague family slaughters the entire Capulet family and seizes control of the kingdom. The true heir to the throne, Juliet Fiammata Asto Capulet, manages to escape the onslaught and is hidden away by loyalists for 14 years with the hope that she may one day overthrow the cruel Montague regime.
Despite having forgotten the murder of her entire family, Juliet now secretly protects the oppressed citizens of Neo Verona as a vigilante called the Red Whirlwind. During one of her escapades, she meets Romeo Candorebanto Montague, the kind and selfless son of the tyrannical Prince Laertes Montague, and without knowledge of each other’s background, they both fall in love at first sight.
Unfortunately, however, their destiny is a cursed one: not only does each of the two families wish to obliterate the other, but an ancient secret is hidden beneath Neo Verona also threatens their undying love for each other. Will they be able to defy the stars, or is this truly a love that can never be?

It’s a wonderful adaptation of a classical work. But don’t expect a cheesy and draggy remade version of the original story, Romeo ร Juliet is definitely more than what it seems.
8. Bokura ga Ita (We Were There)

I honestly thought of reading the manga after watching Bokura ga Ita. Why? you ask cause it was that good. It’s a love story of a shy and naive girl falling for the most popular and arrogant boy of the school.
Going into her first year of high school, Nanami Takahashi is filled with the hope of making many new friends. After meeting the shy Yuri Yamamoto, she hears about a popular boy in their class: Yano Motoharu. Yuri cares little for Yano because of his past relationship with her older sister Nana, and at first, Nanami doesn’t like his attitude either. However, Nanami soon begins to warm up to Yano and takes a liking to him. The two spend more of their time together and eventually decide to start dating. But their love is not without challenges; Yano has trouble opening up to Nanami, since his first girlfriend, Nana, died in a car accident the year before, and she had been with one of her ex-boyfriends at the time.
Finding themselves living in the shadow of Yano’s relationship with Nana, Nanami and Yano struggle to keep their relationship afloat amid misunderstandings and heartache with the certainty of their love for each other.

Bokura ga Ita is a definite must-watch for shoujo lovers and is guaranteed to leave you with overwhelming emotions but in a good way.

Byousoku 5 Centimeter is a tale of growing up, letting go of an unreachable past, and taking control of one’s own life.

Despite the separation, they continue to keep in touch through mail. When Takaki finds out that his family is also moving, he decides to meet with Akari one last time.
As years pass by, they continue down their own paths, their distance slowly growing wider and their contact with one another fades. Yet, they keep remembering one another and the times they have shared together, wondering if they will have the chance to meet once again.

You will fall in love with the characters, laugh with them, cry with them, and don’t be surprised if you find yourself wishing them to live happily.

Intrigued by the tale of a mountain god, six-year-old Hotaru Takegawa loses her way in the ancient forest while visiting her uncle. Exhausted and desperate for help, Hotaru is thrilled to find a masked forest spirit named Gin. She learns the hard way that she should not touch the boy, or he would disappear. In spite of this, Gin leads Hotaru out of the forest and warns her never to return when she promises to come again with a gift.

It’s a simple, effective, well-thought-out story. Which leaves you with a warm fuzzy feeling. Like love, it was slow-paced in both the story and how it crept into our hearts and made us love it, showing love in its truest platonic form.

Two characters with a lot of chemistry and beautiful artwork, all with a medieval theme. The real question is why wasn’t Ookami to Koushinryou on my list earlier up.
Holo is a powerful wolf deity who is celebrated and revered in the small town of Pasloe for blessing the annual harvest. Yet as years go by and the villagers become more self-sufficient, Holo, who stylizes herself as the โWise Wolf of Yoitsu,โ has been reduced to a mere folk tale.
When a travelling merchant named Kraft Lawrence stops at Pasloe, Holo offers to become his business partner if he eventually takes her to her northern home of Yoitsu. The savvy trader recognizes Holoโs unusual ability to evaluate a personโs character and accepts her proposition. Now in the possession of both sharp business skills and a charismatic negotiator, Lawrence inches closer to his goal of opening his own shop. However, as Lawrence travels the countryside with Holo in search of economic opportunities, he begins to realize that his aspirations are slowly morphing into something unexpected.

It’s a very intelligent, beautiful, sweet, intriguing, and mature romance anime show. Definitely worth your time but fair warning it’s a heavy dialogue show.

As I have seen in Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso music is a powerful thing like love or maybe love is also music. In this shoujo, music will also connect, heal, and deepen the bonds between two people.
Shinichi Chiaki is a first-class musician whose dream is to play among the elites in Europe. Coming from a distinguished family, he is an infamous perfectionistโnot only is he highly critical of himself, but of others as well. The only thing stopping Shinichi from leaving for Europe is his fear of flying. As a result, he’s grounded in Japan.
During his fourth year at Japan’s top music university, Shinichi happens to meet Megumi Noda or, as she refers to herself, Nodame. On the surface, she seems to be an unkempt girl with no direction in life. However, when Shinichi hears Nodame play the piano for the first time, he is in awe of the kind of music she creates. Nevertheless, Shinichi is dismayed to discover that Nodame is his neighbour, and worse, she ends up falling head over heels in love with him.

Nodame Cantabile is a little bit special because it’s one of those rare times when the adaptation ends up as good as or in this case better than, the original. So this anime is definitely worth your time.

That is until he meets Hagumi, a petite girl with an enormous amount of talent. Hagumi is fondly called Hagu by Shuuji, who serves as Hagu’s guardian. Hagu meets Ayumi, nicknamed Ayu, and they become close friends almost instantly. Meanwhile, Ayu falls for one of the boysโฆ
The joys of falling in love, the pain of letting go, discovering one’s self, and finding the courage to move onโthese are some of the things that the characters in Hachimitsu to Clover experience as they take part in the play staged by fate.

It really makes you feel the nostalgia of your college days and maybe that is why you understand the characters more, feel for them, and get where they are coming from. All in all Hachimitsu to Clover(Honey and Clover) is a beautiful, realistic slice of college life with excellent music and some fairly good seiyuu.

A Silent Voice is a great film that also falls into the romance anime genre. It leaves you reflecting like all good films should do, questioning your interactions with people both past and present, making us all try to be better people.

The Garden of Words is an emotional story showing the bittersweetness of love or is it actually more, showing the loneliness and solitude that comes with trying to achieve your dreams. Either way, it’s an anime that really resonates well with me.
On a rainy morning in Tokyo, Takao Akizuki, an aspiring shoemaker, decides to skip class to sketch designs in a beautiful garden. This is where he meets Yukari Yukino, a beautiful yet mysterious woman, for the very first time. Offering to make her new shoes, Takao continues to meet with Yukari throughout the rainy season, and without even realizing it, the two are able to alleviate the worries hidden in their hearts just by being with each other. However, their personal struggles have not disappeared completely, and as the end of the rainy season approaches, their relationship will be put to the test.

It may not be for all and some might say it’s not that good but I really think it’s a story that looks simple but it is way more complex and requires your full attention to see more than what is on the surface.
Toradora is a good anime for those who are just starting out and wanting to get into the romance, comedy, slice of life genres. I was stuck at home and needed something to watch so I decided to rewatch this one and do a review for it. I became emotionally invested in the overall plot and characters and couldn’t stop watching, which is extremely rare for me, especially for this genre. Most comedy and slice of life are good for background anime and not something I would get invested in so much. As a side note, this is one of my husband’s favorite anime shows so we made a date night of it!
This anime reminds me of Saito and Louise from the Zero no Tsukaima series( which is very good. I recommend it). It seems it’s a trope that anime creators have stuck with though in regards to having a protagonist who gets beaten up by a girl that’s usually short and feared by many.
Characters as a Whole in Toradora
Toradora is not like many other romantic series out there that have characters fall in love simply just because of…reasons. I think every romantic series heavily depends on its cast to be the foundation of the series. The characters of Toradora are an interesting bunch that creates the opportunity for its audience to laugh and also feel emotions.
Ryuuji
Ryuuji is the male lead and he is generally a very likable, realistic character. He struggles with romance, gets low self-esteem because heโs self-conscious, and regularly voices his opinions on matters at hand. Most people think he’s scary but he proves them wrong. Throughout the show, he proves that heโs a loyal friend and all-around good guy, though he might be a little obsessive-compulsive about cleanliness and order. But hey, who doesn’t have their little quirks? I mean Levi in Attack on Titan has the same quirks and fans still love him!
Taiga
Moving onto the main female lead, I felt a little wishy-washy in regards to liking Taigaโs character. Iโm not a fan of the tsundere type, and thatโs exactly what she is. A lot of people who have watched the show never went past a few episodes on that fact alone. Tsundere is a like/hate thing with fans. While Taiga acts like a brat most of the time, especially in the beginning, she also becomes more and more endearing as the series progresses. I hate when characters get hit for no reason. Taiga is a huge offender of verbally and physically abusing Ryuuji early on in the series. And while she does get better, it was, admittedly, off-putting in the beginning.
The other characters are amazing and some fans even like them more than the main characters! This is rare in an anime but I have to say that I like all of them.
Ending of Toradora
While I did like the ending overall because it ties things up nicely, and felt fairly rewarding, I did not like how the ending felt very rushed. The amount of material crammed into the last couple of episodes felt considerably off, considering the rest of the show was focused on coaxing the relationships at a much slower pace. One thing watchers have mentioned is that some episodes were boring or it felt too rushed. I’ll agree on feeling rushed idea but 24 episodes are pretty standard for anime shows. At least, it is now compared to how long shows like Inuyasha, Naruto, and One Piece are. It isnโt a completely perfect series, but one of the best the romance genre has to offer in anime so far.
I enjoyed every single episode there was, some were very memorable but few are forgettable.

Aki Sora is the tale of a young boy and his desire to be with his older sister. The anime is one of the most infamous of its genre. Unlike Kiss x Sis where the characters are not blood-related, and the reminds of this on multiple occasions, Aki Sora doesn’t try to give any explanation.

Because I Don’t Like My Big Brother At All!! is a slice of life and slapstick comedy that follows Nao Takanashi, who has a crush on her stepbrother, and fights for his attention against his childhood friend and cosplay-obsessed girl.
At number five on our list of similar anime to Kiss x Sis is Oreimo, both series cover some of the same subjects, with both being about a brother and sister, and with both being mostly made up of a female cast. Itโs a nice, fun and relaxing watch.
Oreimo follows Kyousuke Kousaka, who is a normal high school student who suddenly finds himself involved in his little sister’s secret hobby, mature games, and anime. Since up till now his sister, Kirino, has basically had nothing to do with him till now. She is suddenly willing to open up to him. Now he finds himself helping Kirino acquire new games, hiding her hobby from her friends, helping her make new friends, and I repair their sibling bond.

It’s tough to watch at times with how much it will pull at your heartstrings. December 27th, 2020 marks 7 years since my last suicide attempt. I won’t ever forget that night and the emotions that built up to it. How even today, I still have to fight the abyss that loves to surround me. I have so much to be grateful for…a cozy apartment, a husband that loves and accepts me, the world’s cutest furbaby, a job that lets me sit down and listen to music/podcasts all day. I have so much that many people would love to have. And yet, I’m still depressed.
I have to fight the emotions and the voice in my head telling me that I can’t do it and I’m not good enough. There are days I won’t leave the house or talk to anyone because I don’t want them to be burdened by the sight of me. It’s a heavy burden for just myself, I can’t put that on others.
Since that night, I promised myself I wouldn’t give up anymore. And because I didn’t, I got what I have now in life. I can’t imagine life without my husband or my dog. They give me a purpose and a reason to keep fighting, to keep getting better. ALL of us do have a purpose. And ALL of us need to keep fighting. Are you toxic? Okay, fix yourself. Become better and I KNOW you can do it. Does it take work? Oh yes. There will be days that you will still cry yourself to sleep at night and take sleeping pills to numb the feelings. For me, it was mostly a stubbornness thing and anger. I let my anger keep me alive. I was so angry at the world for putting me through what it did. If that’s what it takes, use it.
Suicide is NEVER the answer. All it does it gets rid of the chance for things to get better.
What’s A Silent Voice Even About?
This is just a short version from myanimelist that lets you know what this movie is about. It does have spoilers though so don’t read if you don’t want them!
Japanese high school student Shoya Ishida intends to die by suicide. Changing his mind at the last minute, he recalls his days in elementary school and the events that have led him here. A new student named Shoko Nishimiya informs the class that she is deaf. She tries to integrate with the class but ends up annoying Shoya and his friends, so they start to bully her. When word of the bullying reaches the principal, Shoya is singled out as the culprit by his teacher. Soon, the class’s bullying is directed toward him. Shoya blames Shoko, and the two get into a physical altercation. She is subsequently transferred to another school. He later finds Shoko’s notebook, which she left behind, and keeps it.
In middle school, Shoya’s reputation of being Shoko’s bully led him to become an outcast. Now in high school, he has fallen into a depression. He blocks out the faces of those around him, unable to look them in the eye. Shoya visits the sign language center and returns Shoko’s notebook in the hopes of making amends, revealing that he has learned sign language.
During a fireworks festival, Shoko goes home under the guise of finishing homework. Shoya follows when Yuzuru asks him to get her camera. When he arrives, he finds Shoko standing on the balcony, about to commit suicide. Shoya succeeds in grabbing her and pulls her back up but falls into the river below. He is rescued by his best friends in elementary school but slips into a coma. Hoping to help Shoya, Shoko meets with each of the group members to explain her and Shoya’s situations.
One night, Shoko dreams about receiving a farewell visit from Shoya. Horrified, she runs to the bridge and collapses in tears. Shoya, awakening from his coma, stumbles to the bridge and finds her there. He apologizes for the way he treated her, asking her to stop blaming herself, and admits that, while he once considered ending his own life, he has since decided against it. Shoya then asks her to help him continue to live.
When Shoya goes to the school festival with Shoko, he finds out how much his new friends still care for him, and they reconcile. During the festival, Shoya is finally able to look at other people’s faces again. He looks around at his family and all the new friends he has made and cries.
It just makes me cry at how our two main characters planned on suicide and it was dealt with in this movie. All of this is handled so wonderfully and with such care. It’s refreshing to see an anime handle such emotive issues as mental health, bullying, and suicide.
A silent voice is one movie that needs to be on your watch list!
