  • Beyond the Curses: 15 Dark Fantasy Manga Like Jujutsu Kaisen You Need to Read Next

Beyond the Curses: 15 Dark Fantasy Manga Like Jujutsu Kaisen You Need to Read Next

There is a very specific kind of emptiness that hits you when a masterclass in dark shonen reaches its conclusion.

Gege Akutami’s Jujutsu Kaisen didn’t just capture our attention; it fundamentally shifted what we expect from modern battle manga. It was a story defined by its unapologetic brutality, a hyper-complex magic system, and a world where no character—no matter how beloved—was ever truly safe. Look at the sheer kinetic energy of Akutami’s artwork—it doesn’t just show a fight; it makes you feel the devastating weight of the impact.

If you are hunting for that exact same feeling—the intricate power scaling, the deep psychological stakes, and the beautiful, chaotic ink work—you have likely already searched MyAnimeList recommendation boards. While the massive hits are always present, the rabbit hole goes so much deeper.

From top-rated community classics to hidden gems buried deep in user lists, here are 15 manga like Jujutsu Kaisen that will completely grip you.

    The Quick-Reference Watchlist

For the readers looking for a quick breakdown, here is how the top recommendations stack up based on community sentiment and core themes:

Manga TitleCore Similarity to JJKAtmosphere Style
GokurakugaiHigh-fashion art & monster exorcismGritty Neon Noir
Chainsaw ManVisceral dread & dark subversionCinematic Fever Dream
KagurabachiKinetic combat & underground sorceryRain-slicked Revenge

    1. Gokurakugai

    Gokurakugai_1-Chapter_1_-_Magazine_Cover
    Author(s)Yuto Sano (Story & Art)
    Chapters35 + ?

This is easily one of the most visually stunning ongoing manga on the planet right now.

Set in a vibrant, sketchy, crime-ridden district, the story follows Tao and Alma, two “troubleshooters” who secretly hunt down grotesque monsters born from human flaws.

The Jujutsu Kaisen Similarity: If you loved the stylish, effortlessly cool character designs of Satoru Gojo or Toji Fushiguro, Gokurakugai carries that exact same high-fashion, gritty-supernatural DNA. It features a brilliant “monster-hunting duo” dynamic and an incredibly textured ink style. On MyAnimeList, it was recently spotlighted as a consecutive finalist in the fan-selected awards, proving that its underground popularity is matching its breathtaking art.

    2. Chainsaw Man

    Denji_and_Yoru_surrounded_by_Devils-chainsawman
    Author(s)Tatsuki Fujimoto (Story & Art)
    Chapters232

The undisputed spiritual sibling to Gege Akutami’s masterpiece.

Tatsuki Fujimoto doesn’t write typical shonen stories; he writes cinematic fever dreams. The world is infested with Devils born from human fears, and a boy named Denji is dragged into a public safety bureau to slice through the madness.

The Jujutsu Kaisen Similarity: The narrative alignment here is undeniable—both series belong to the dark trinity of modern shonen. If what you loved most about JJK was the constant, underlying sense of dread mixed with bizarre, pitch-black humor and sudden character mortality, Chainsaw Man delivers it flawlessly. It currently sits comfortably among the highest-ranked and most discussed titles on MAL for a reason: it refuses to pull its punches.

    3. Kagurabachi

    Kagurabachi_Chapter_96
    Author(s)Takeru Hokazono (Story & Art)
    Chapters121 + ?

The breakout sensation that proved the gritty, sword-and-sorcery revenge epic is alive and well.

Chihiro Rokuhira seeks bloody vengeance against a mysterious cabal of sorcerers called the Hishaku, who murdered his legendary blacksmith father and stole six enchanted blades capable of mass destruction.

The Jujutsu Kaisen Similarity: The panel composition here is deeply cinematic, emphasizing cold, calculated precision and sudden, explosive bursts of violence. The magic system relies on ancient weapons infused with sorcery, echoing the cursed tools and localized battle strategies found in JJK. The aesthetic is dark, rain-slicked, and utterly captivating.

    4. Kaya-Chan Isn’t Scary

    Kaya-Chan_wa_Kowakunai_Manga_3
    Author(s)Tarou Yuri (Story & Art)
    Chapters48 + ?

Do not let the kindergarten setting fool you—this is pure, unadulterated psychological horror.

The story follows a kindergarten teacher who discovers that a quiet, seemingly troubled 5-year-old girl in her class is actually a prodigy-level psychic who spends her days brutally exorcising terrifying urban legends.

The Jujutsu Kaisen Similarity: This is the ultimate hidden gem for fans who miss the early, eerie chapters of JJK. It perfectly mirrors the concept of invisible, terrifying curses lurking in everyday public spaces (like parks and schools). It contrasts innocent daily life with stomach-churning supernatural horror, making it an absolute must-read for fans of the occult.

    5. Choujin X

    Choujin_X_manga-Ricardo_Terror_Night
    Author(s)Sui Ishida (Story & Art)
    Chapters72.3 + ?

Written by the creator of Tokyo Ghoul, this is a masterclass in modern body horror and unconventional storytelling.

In a world where ordinary people can suddenly transform into supernatural, chaotic mutants called “Choujin,” two childhood friends find themselves caught in the crossfire of a mutant outbreak.

The Jujutsu Kaisen Similarity: Sui Ishida embraces a much looser, deeply expressive, and abstract art style here, capturing the raw madness of supernatural abilities clashing in a modern cityscape. The power scaling is chaotic and unpredictable, directly appealing to readers who enjoyed the visceral, unsettling nature of JJK‘s high-stakes combat arcs.

    6. Gachiakuta

    Gachiakuta-manga-Rudo_Surebrec_vs_Human_Traffickers
    Author(s)Kei Urana (Story & Art)
    Chapters167 + ?

A masterclass in industrial punk aesthetics and frantic, kinetic action.

Ludo is falsely accused of murder and thrown into the “Abyss,” a toxic wasteland where the surface world discards its trash. There, he discovers a society of “Cleaners” who weaponize discarded objects using a unique spiritual energy.

The Jujutsu Kaisen Similarity: Kei Urana was an assistant to Atsushi Ohkubo (Soul Eater), and the lineage shows in the graffiti-inspired, sharp artwork. The power system is based on giving life and energy to inanimate objects, heavily reminiscent of how cursed objects and cursed energy function in JJK. It currently holds a highly respected score on MyAnimeList for its outstanding world-building and raw artistic style.

    7. Black Torch

    Black_Torch_manga-cover
    Author(s)Tsuyoshi Takaki (Story & Art)
    Chapters19

A short, high-octane hidden gem that deserved so much more time to breathe.

This sleek, 5-volume series follows Jiro Azuma, a guy who can talk to animals and ends up fusing with a powerful, rogue shadow-cat demon. He is quickly drafted into a secret government exorcist task force.

The Jujutsu Kaisen Similarity: It takes the foundational “boy eats/absorbs a curse and joins a secret, ancient bureau” premise of JJK and fuses it with high-intensity ninja aesthetics. The art is exceptionally clean, aggressive, and masterfully captures pure physical movement.

    8. Hell’s Paradise: Jigokuraku

    Two_teams_united-Hells-Paradise-Jigokuraku
    Author(s)Yuji Kaku (Story & Art)
    Chapters127

A deeply atmospheric journey about what happens when human flaws clash with supernatural nightmares.

The story follows Gabimaru, a hollowed-out ninja sentenced to death, who is offered a full pardon if he can retrieve the Elixir of Life from a mysterious, uncharted island filled with monstrous, surreal deities.

The Jujutsu Kaisen Similarity: Yuji Kaku actually worked as an assistant to Tatsuki Fujimoto, and that pedigree shines through. The power system—based on the concept of Tao—feels just as meticulously planned and rule-bound as Cursed Energy. The battles are won through a combination of raw physical prowess and strict mechanical strategy.

    9. D.Gray-man

    DGray-manCross_vs_Akuma
    Author(s)Katsura Hoshino (Story & Art)
    Chapters250 + ?

The dark shonen blueprint that paved the way for modern dark fantasy.

Set in a gothic, alternate 19th century, it follows Allen Walker and the Black Order—an elite group of exorcists who use a holy substance called “Innocence” to destroy “Akuma,” weapons created by using the souls of the grieving dead.

The Jujutsu Kaisen Similarity: Long before JJK dominated the charts, D.Gray-man was mastering the heavy atmosphere of existential dread, tragic magic systems, and devastating emotional stakes. The concept of Akuma being born from human grief directly mirrors how Cursed Spirits are manifested from negative human emotions.

    10. Kemono Jihen

    Kemono_Jihen-Chapter_89
    Author(s)Shou Aimoto (Story & Art)
    Chapters71 + ?

An underrated urban fantasy that balances a detective aesthetic with genuinely pitch-black themes.

The story centers on an occult detective agency in Tokyo staffed entirely by “Kemono”—supernatural ghouls and yokai hiding in plain sight among humans.

The Jujutsu Kaisen Similarity: Much like JJK, it excels at hiding deeply tragic, psychological trauma behind a cast of lovable, eccentric characters. The hidden supernatural society operating parallel to modern Tokyo creates an identical atmospheric backdrop that urban fantasy fans crave.

    11. Dorohedoro

    favorite_panel_from_dorohedoro-manga
    Author(s)Q Hayashida (Story & Art)
    Chapters190

A delightfully grotesque, industrial nightmare wrapped in an incredibly heartwarming story about friendship.

In a grim, decaying slum called “The Hole,” sorcerers treat ordinary humans as lab rats for their magic. The protagonist, Caiman, has had his head transformed into a lizard by a sorcerer and suffers from complete amnesia.

The Jujutsu Kaisen Similarity: It is incredibly bloody, heavily textured, and features a completely unique magic system based on mystical smoke. The sheer grittiness and willingness to lean into the macabre will instantly appeal to anyone who loved the raw vibe of the Jujutsu underworld.

    12. Claymore

    claymore-manga-whats-your-favorite-manga-panel
    Author(s)Norihiro Yagi (Story & Art)
    Chapters159

Imagine the ruthless, high-stakes desperation of the Shibuya Incident arc, but stretched across an entire medieval fantasy world.

In a world plagued by shape-shifting monsters called Yoma, humanity’s only defense is an organization of silver-eyed, half-human female warriors known as Claymores.

The Jujutsu Kaisen Similarity: As these women fight, they constantly risk crossing the line and permanently mutating into the very monsters they hunt. It is a haunting exploration of isolation, identity, and the heavy price of wielding immense power, carrying the same tragic weight as the fates of Jujutsu sorcerers.

    13. Fire Punch

    just-finished-fire-punch-manga-over-the-weekend-and-i-thought
    Author(s)Tatsuki Fujimoto (Story & Art)
    Chapters83

Before Chainsaw Man, Fujimoto created a bleak, chaotic fever dream that pushes the boundaries of dark manga.

Set in a frozen, post-apocalyptic wasteland, a boy blessed with permanent regeneration is set on fire by unquenchable, magical flames. He spends years learning to live with the agony, using his perpetually burning body as a weapon of pure vengeance.

The Jujutsu Kaisen Similarity: It is weird, deeply philosophical, and entirely unpredictable—perfect for readers who loved JJK‘s willingness to completely dismantle its own status quo and subvert classic narrative tropes.

    14. Undead Unluck

    whats-your-favorite-undead-unluck-panel
    Author(s)Yoshifumi Tozuka (Story & Art)
    Chapters240

Don’t let the eccentric title fool you—this contains one of the most meticulously designed, rule-bending power systems in manga history.

An unluck girl who brings death to anyone she touches meets an undead man who desperately wants to die. Together, they join a secret organization of “Negators”—people who can literally negate the rules of reality.

The Jujutsu Kaisen Similarity: The battles in Undead Unluck are fought entirely on logic, wits, and extreme conditions. If your favorite part of JJK was figuring out the intricate parameters of Domain Expansions, binding vows, and inherited techniques, this system will completely scratch that intellectual itch.

    15. Bleach

    bleach-manga-ichigo-final-form
    Author(s)Tite Kubo (Story & Art)
    Chapters686

The foundational masterclass in weaponized souls and razor-sharp style.

Ichigo Kurosaki is a high school student who gains the powers of a Soul Reaper to protect his town from “Hollows”—corrupted human souls turned into monstrous predators.

The Jujutsu Kaisen Similarity: We cannot talk about the DNA of Jujutsu Kaisen without paying respects to the blueprint that inspired it. Gege Akutami has never been shy about how deeply Bleach influenced their work. If you loved the localized supernatural barriers, the secret society aspect of the sorcerers, and the effortless, razor-sharp style of characters like Gojo, you will find those exact roots in Tite Kubo’s masterpiece.

At the end of the day, these stories work because they understand that true tension only exists when the consequences are real. They don’t pull their punches, and they respect the audience enough to let the world get dark.

If you want to recapture that feeling of turning a page and genuinely not knowing if your favorite character will survive the next panel, pick up any of these fifteen. They might just be manga, but they are masterclasses in sequential art.

10 Really Good Casual Games for Android

I, for one, find it difficult these days to play games as much as I used to. That said, I still like to consider myself a gamer. In recent years, casual Android games have honestly been a lifesaver for me, especially on days when I only have a few minutes to play.

Casual games are amazing. They’re made to be played on the go and at your own pace. But with the mobile gaming industry constantly growing bigger and bigger, it can be hard to pick one to play.

As someone who’s extremely busy and can’t spend hours gaming like I used to, for those little breaks during my day, here are some of the best bite-sized games I keep coming back to.

Editorial note (1 March 2026): This article was updated to include more games, fresh stats, and the latest insights for casual Android gamers.

    10. Dungeons and Decisions RPG (formerly Medieval Fantasy RPG)

Yes, it’s text-based, but don’t let that put you off. Delight Games spent over 10 years crafting a story with more than 1.5 million words, where all character storylines exist in the same universe, meaning your former character’s choices echo into your next playthrough.

Simple to learn, hard to master. You read, you make choices, and the consequences aren’t always obvious until it’s too late. You follow characters with their own personalities and goals, shaping their story through combat, romance, and everything in between. One wrong choice and your character is dead, no warning. Casual enough to pick up anywhere, addictive enough that putting it down is the hard part.

    Download: Google Play

    9. Nirvana – Game of Life

If you haven’t played Nirvana – Game of Life yet, you really should. It’s a swipe-based life simulation adventure game developed by GoldTusks, with over a million downloads on Google Play alone.

You play as a soul traveling from body to body through the cycle of life, experiencing everything from a normal everyday life to being a hero, zombie survivor, assassin, and so many more fun scenarios. The aim is to break the cycle and reach Nirvana. It has a great mix of mystery and humor, and the further you play, the more fun surprises you discover. It’s casual enough to pick up at any moment, but addictive enough that putting it down is harder than expected.

    Download: Google Play

    8. Beat Cancer

Beat Cancer is an idle clicker and beat ’em up game with an amazing cause behind it, helping fund actual cancer research while keeping you genuinely entertained. Made by Polyspice, a small game company based in Denmark, and honestly, one of those studios worth keeping an eye on.

The aim is simple. Players beat the hell out of cancer cells one tap at a time as they travel down the bloodstream, using their fingers and some hilariously over-the-top weapons when things get overwhelming. What makes it special is that for every ad you watch or purchase you make, 20% gets donated directly to cancer research. A game you actually feel proud playing, and for kids, a pretty solid excuse to squeeze in a few extra hours.

    Download: Google Play

    7. Pokémon TCG Pocket

Launched in October 2024 by The Pokémon Company and developer DeNA, Pokémon TCG Pocket hit 10 million downloads in its first three days, 100 million in four months, and won both Google Play’s Best Game and iPhone Game of the Year for 2025.

The concept is brilliantly simple. You open two free booster packs every single day, collect cards, and battle other players in quick matches that take minutes rather than hours. The good thing is that you don’t have to buy any physical cards. Additionally, the daily pack opening alone is addictive enough to keep you coming back, and the card artwork is genuinely beautiful. That said, spending money on extra packs is very tempting once you get hooked.

    Download: Google Play

    6. Small Living World

Small Living World is a great indie simulation game that runs right in your hands. It’s a unique little world builder where you slowly grow your own pixel-based ecosystem in a gentle aesthetic with accompanying soothing nature sounds.

You start with an almost desert-like world that you’ll bring back to life as a lush forest landscape. Everything is under your control, from the terrain shape to the plants and animals that live there. Deploy the full power of the terraforming tools and watch the world evolve on its own, slowly developing into a mystical forest.

All in all, it’s a very relaxing game with a sense of progression that’s completely in your hands, everything at your own pace.

    Download: Google Play

    5. My Talking Tom

Slovenian studio Outfit7 started with a simple idea in 2009: bring a virtual pet to life with actual personality. That idea grew into a massively popular franchise and helped Outfit7 reach a company valuation of about US $1 billion. With 24 billion total downloads across 20 titles, for 10 consecutive years, Outfit7 ranked in the top 10 game publishers worldwide on both iOS and Google Play. The original My Talking Tom, launched in 2013, hit one billion downloads alone and spawned seven sequels.

The game itself is basically a digital pet you actually care about. Feed Tom, put him to sleep, play mini-games with him, and watch him grow from a tiny kitten into a full adult cat. What makes it a perfect casual game is that at its core, it’s all about a weirdly charming virtual companion you can check in on whenever.

    Download: Google Play

    4. Subway Surfers

Two friends from animation school in Copenhagen won a short film award in 2009 about a graffiti kid running from a guard and a dog. Three years later, that exact idea became Subway Surfers, and the rest is genuinely historic. SYBO and Kiloo launched it in May 2012, and it went on to become the first mobile game ever to hit one billion downloads on Google Play, then four billion total, the only mobile game in history to reach that number.

You play as Jake, sprinting through subway systems of famous cities around the world while dodging trains and outrunning an inspector. The city changes every single month, which is exactly why people keep coming back after 13 years. Rated 4.56 stars from 41.8 million reviews, it still attracts between 90 and 150 million monthly active players in 2026.

    Download: Google Play

    3. Candy Crush Saga

King launched this on Facebook in April 2012, moved it to mobile seven months later, and watched it get downloaded over 10 million times in its first month alone. That was just the beginning. Over a billion total downloads later, it’s still one of the most played mobile games in the world, with roughly 170–176 million monthly active users as of 2026 and over $20 billion in lifetime revenue.

The beauty lies in the simplicity of its concept. Players match three candies of the same color, clear the board, and move to the next level. There are no timers breathing down your neck and no complicated mechanics to learn. It’s the kind of game you open while waiting for someone and put down 45 minutes later, wondering where the time went. Now owned by Activision Blizzard, King keeps the levels coming with over 15,000 available and counting.

    Download: Google Play

    2. Alto’s Odyssey

Canadian indie studio Snowman spent over two years building this game, won an Apple Design Award for it in 2018, and somehow made it completely free on Android. That generosity makes more sense once you actually play it, because Alto’s Odyssey is the kind of game that sells itself the moment you open it.

You sandboard through a procedurally generated desert that shifts between stunning biomes, day cycles, and weather effects, all controlled with a single tap. There’s no pushy monetization, no daily streaks, and zero pressure while playing. There’s even a Zen Mode that removes scores and game over screens entirely, turning it into something closer to interactive wallpaper than a game. A 4.7 on Google Play with over 10 million downloads, and it still holds up beautifully.

    Download: Google Play

    1. Block Blast

Block Blast! dominated global mobile downloads in 2025, topping charts ahead of Roblox, with over 500 million total installs and a 4.8-star rating from 4 million reviews. The game has quietly become one of the most played games on the planet right now. Hungry Studio, founded in 2021, even won Best Puzzle Game at the Sensor Tower APAC Awards 2025, and it’s easy to see why once you actually open it.

In this game, you drag blocks onto an 8×8 grid, clear full rows and columns, and keep the board from filling up. With no timers, no pressure, and no frustrating life system, the game offers a smooth, satisfying loop. To top it off, it even adjusts its difficulty automatically to keep things challenging without tipping into frustrating territory.

    Download: Google Play

So that’s all I have for you. Thank you for reading and sharing if you liked it.

Till my next post, have a great day!

  • Top 20 Best Anime Series (In Our Opinion)

Top 20 Best Anime Series (In Our Opinion)

While “top X” lists are a bit of a cliché, we think it’s always interesting to see different perspectives and share what makes these anime shows stand out to us. As fans who have seen hundreds of anime, there are not that many that made us stop and say, “Wow, this is something truly special.” That said, here are the top 20 anime series, chosen by a team of writers who’ve watched hundreds of anime across genres.

    1. Hunter x Hunter

Hunter x Hunter may have its fair share of hiatuses, but both the manga and anime are still as popular as ever. While the anime might not be as big as Naruto or One Piece due to the frequent breaks, the story of the lovable hunter Gon searching for his long-lost father has solidified itself as one of the best shounen, even with the story still unfinished.

With rich worldbuilding, memorable characters, and masterfully crafted arcs that explore complex moral themes, Hunter x Hunter is definitely one of the best anime out there.

    2. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood nails everything, ranging from badass action through real emotional punches to deep, thoughtful stuff, without ever feeling heavy. If there is a king of storytelling done right, this series easily takes the crown. The Elric brothers’ journey is filled with moral dilemmas and personal growth, set against a richly developed world. It strikes that sweet spot between laughs and serious moments, so you’re never bored.

FMA has received universal acclaim, with a 100% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and top ratings on platforms like MyAnimeList and IMDb. Of course, you can also watch it on Netflix.

    3. Gintama

Gintama is one of a kind. It’s stupidly funny one minute and then hits you with emotional gut-punches the next. It somehow juggles parody, chaos, and legit powerful storytelling without ever losing its heart.

The show is set in an alternate Edo period where aliens have invaded Earth, and samurai Gintoki Sakata takes on odd jobs with his friends to make ends meet, leading to hilarious and action-packed adventures.

    4. Code Geass

Code Geass is one of those anime that really makes you think about everything, from morality to the choices the characters make. The idea of the MC getting the power to control people with his eyes sounds crazy at first, but it’s how the show digs into the actual consequences of that power that sets it apart. Loved by many, it’s not just about epic battles or awesome mecha action; it’s about strategy, scheming, and the gray area between good and bad.

The story is set in an alternate future where the Holy Britannian Empire has conquered Japan. Exiled prince Lelouch vi Britannia gains Geass, a power that lets him control anyone with his gaze, and uses it to lead a revolution as the masked vigilante Zero.

    5. Made in Abyss

Made in Abyss looks super cute at first. The characters have that almost chibi-like art style, and it all seems kinda whimsical. But don’t let that fool you. Not only does it get dark quickly, but it also gets sad just as fast. The anime somehow mixes breathtaking, otherworldly beauty with some seriously gruesome moments, so you’re constantly torn between “wow” and “oh no.”

Set in a world where a massive, mysterious pit called the Abyss stretches deep into the earth, the story follows a brave girl named Riko who dreams of becoming a legendary Cave Raider like her mother. When she meets a strange robot boy named Reg, the two set off on a dangerous journey into the depths.

    6. Attack on Titan

In a world besieged by giant humanoid creatures known as Titans, humanity’s remnants reside within massive walled cities. After a colossal Titan breaches the outer wall, young Eren Yeager vows to eradicate every Titan, joining the military to fight back.

Attack on Titan is the kind of series you show your friend when they say anime is just for kids. With its intense storyline and exploration of mature themes like freedom, oppression, and the human condition, it quickly proves otherwise. Not to mention, it has one of the best plot twists in anime history.

    7. Samurai Champloo

Samurai Champloo is about samurai and katana fights. Do I really have to say more?

A mixture of both the past and present, its story is packed full of fillers, and that’s what made Samurai Champloo so great. Its journey, not necessarily the destination. The destination was great too, but the show does so much more than it needed to. Normally, mixing so many things into a plot could be bad, but Samurai Champloo does it wonderfully. And the traveling companions are like water and oil.

It’s a show for everyone. There’s plenty of great sword-slashing action, clever comedy, and a good share of moments that will tug at your heartstrings, often all at once.

    8. Spy x Family

In Spy x Family, we meet Loid Forger, a top-tier spy who builds a fake family for a mission. He marries Yor, a kind woman who’s secretly an assassin, and adopts Anya, a telepathic girl who knows the truth but just wants a real family.

None of them know each other’s real identity (except Anya), and her reactions are comedy gold.

Spy x Family is universally loved by most people fortunate enough to come across it, and it’s not hard to see why. It’s funny, wholesome, stylish, and easy to get into, even if you don’t usually watch anime. It doesn’t rely on heavy lore, weird tropes, or anything confusing. Moreover, its English dub is surprisingly good.

    9. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba

Among the newer anime, Demon Slayer (2019) stole the spotlight, and honestly, my heart too, with its gorgeous animation and emotional storytelling. The main guy might seem like your typical shounen hero at first, but that doesn’t take away from how beautifully built the world is or how powerful his journey feels. It’s packed with action, but it also hits hard emotionally in a way you don’t always expect.

In this anime, after demons slaughter his family and turn his sister Nezuko into one, Tanjiro Kamado joins the Demon Slayer Corps to avenge his family and find a cure for Nezuko.

    10. March Comes in Like a Lion

The animation and soundtrack in this anime are amazing. It’s one of those series that is much more than it appears on the surface, with plenty of layers and depth.

March Comes in Like a Lion follows Rei Kiriyama, a young boy who loses his parents and sister in an accident. He is left to live with a family friend, where things take a darker turn, leading him to become a professional shogi player.

March Comes in Like a Lion is a powerful coming-of-age story about overcoming depression, and it really helped me understand myself a bit more. It even got me to try my hand at shogi, though I’m no Rei Kiriyama!

    11. Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash

ranta-yume funny Grimgar Ashes and Illusions

Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash is a unique anime that really felt realistic to me. We watched our characters go from 0 to not a 100, but they did get a bit better. With each of their interactions and the plot, I noticed this. I really felt like these were characters I would love to laugh, cry, and go on adventures with.

With a great story, characters, art, and sound, it really is a shame it was only 12 episodes. I’m still waiting patiently for a second season. Until then, I still go back now and then to watch the 12 episodes we have so far. With its large main cast, it was still able to balance between the group and the individuals, and that’s a very hard task to carry out.

    12. 86

In a dystopian future, the Republic of San Magnolia claims to be fighting a war with drones, but the truth is that the oppressed “86” are forced to pilot mechs. The story follows Lena, a handler from the Republic, and Shin, a battle-hardened 86 soldier, as they slowly form a bond across the divide.

86 (2021)is one of the best newer anime out there, and fans are eagerly waiting for season 2 to be announced. While the description sounds bleak, 86 isn’t just grim; it has some genuinely beautiful, hopeful, and even tender moments that hit even harder because of all the darkness around them.

    13. Kamisama Kiss

Nanami is a high school girl who’s down on her luck. Her dad ditches her, she’s broke, and she ends up homeless. But then she saves a weird guy from a dog, and he’s like, “Hey, you can have my house.” Totally normal… except that “house” turns out to be a shrine, and suddenly she’s a land god living with a grumpy yet handsome fox familiar.

Kamisama Kiss is sweet and funny, and it has actual relationship development. Not just endless flirting with no payoff. Those who like a sprinkle of fantasy, a sprinkle of mischief, and a whole lot of heart, Kamisama Kiss finely hits the spot.

    14. KonoSuba

God’s Blessing on this Wonderful World! is very good too. It may look like any other RPG harem, but it is so much more than that.

It’s not a show trying to teach you any life lessons; it’s just a show full of entertainment, hilarious moments, and lightheartedness.

It’s just a pure joy to watch, and one of the best gateway anime for new viewers.

    15. Princess Jellyfish

Here’s another lesser-known anime that Rai (from Rai’s Anime Blog) and I talked about recently. It features a cross-dressing male character and a young otaku surrounded by her fellow otaku friends.

The storyline really tugged at my heart with its simplicity and the dedication to its themes. You can read my full review of it here.

    16. Fruits Basket

I’ve always loved both the Fruits Basket manga and the original 2001 anime, even though there were some differences. A heartwarming story, the series follows a girl who becomes entangled with a family cursed to transform into animals of the Chinese zodiac.

The 2019 remake takes things up a notch. It follows the manga much more closely, and you can tell that Natsuki Takaya was more involved this time around.

    17. Bokura wa Minna Kawai-sou

Bokura wa Minna Kawai-sou is a great shoujo to watch that doesn’t seem rushed, especially with just 12 episodes.

The art and sound were amazing, and the characters were all so lovely and quirky (but in a good way). I really think everyone will see a bit of themselves in one of the characters.

My joy for this anime surprised me because I usually find romance anime not really my thing, but the love in this anime felt really believable and puts a spin on the usual boy meets girl, boy confesses his feelings, and they share a kiss. But it was different this time; the comedy and great characters really bring the story to life and make you love every moment of the anime.

    18. Inuyasha

Of course, Inuyasha is my favorite. It was my first real anime, and I quickly fell in love with the story and the adorable hanyou (half-demon, half-human).

It’s a perfect mix of romance and action, with plenty of hilarious and classic one-liners you’ll never forget. To top it off, it’s oddly comforting and perfect to watch when you’re feeling down.

    19. Fairy Tail

Now, Fairy Tail is one of those mainstream anime that you either love or hate. Personally, I loved the artwork and the many plotlines that kept things exciting. I can’t even count how many times I bawled my eyes out while watching this show.

Family and friendship are things everyone connects with, and they’re at the heart of a lot of shounen, with Fairy Tail being no exception. It’s exactly that bond between the fleshed-out characters that makes this series so great. Fairy Tail is one of those series I always recommend for newcomers since it’s easy to follow, filled with epic fights, goofy banter, and a wholesome theme.

    20. Shugo Chara

Not many people know about this one, but I absolutely love it. As a kid, I related to it so much. It even gave me the courage to embrace being the “weird anime kid” in school and helped me feel less alone.

The artwork might be a bit odd (especially the eyes), but that doesn’t stop me from loving it. It’ll always hold a special place in my heart.

Okay, everyone! That’s a wrap! Have you all seen any of these already, or not? Let us know what you think in the comments below!

  • 15 Best Anime Series to Watch When You’re Feeling Down

15 Best Anime Series to Watch When You’re Feeling Down

Some days are just harder than others. As an introvert, we all need an escape and anime can definitely bring that safe haven to us. Anime isn’t “just for kids” and can, at times, be darker and delve into some deeper issues. But when you need something light-hearted to make you laugh, these are my go-to animes for whenever I’m depressed or need a smile!

The best animes are the ones that make you feel something. They remind you of what it’s like to be a kid before depression and anxiety took over you. Anime has truly helped me so much in overcoming my own depression and anxiety, and I know it can help you as well!

    So, without further ado…

    15. Laid-Back Camp

The ultimate chill anime about a group of girls who love camping, Laid-Back Camp is like a warm cup of tea on a cold day. With serene landscapes and relaxing moments, whether it’s setting up tents or simply enjoying nature’s peace, this anime gives you all the cozy vibes you need.

When life feels heavy, these girls’ embrace of quiet joys is just what you need to lift your mood. Plus, you’ll get a new love for the outdoors!

    14. The Disastrous Life of Saiki K.

Saiki K. is the comedy you never knew you needed. Saiki, a high school student with psychic powers, just wants to live a normal life, but his crazy classmates and insane situations keep getting in the way.

This anime is non-stop humor with a protagonist who’s ridiculously OP but just wants peace and quiet. The sheer randomness of his life will have you laughing in no time, making it the perfect anime for when you just need to escape and enjoy something completely absurd.

    13. Kaguya-sama: Love is War

Kaguya-sama: Love is War is one of those romantic comedies that will literally have you laughing out loud. It’s about two high school geniuses, Kaguya and Miyuki, who are in love with each other but are too stubborn to confess. Instead, they engage in hilarious mind games to try and get the other to admit their feelings first.

The back-and-forth between them is both adorable and ridiculous, and it’ll have you grinning from ear to ear. No heavy drama here, just pure comedic gold.

    12. Lucky Star

If you’re ever in need of pure, silly fun, Lucky Star is where it’s at. This slice-of-life anime follows a group of high school girls just living their everyday lives. The jokes are quirky, the characters are hilarious, and it’s totally carefree.

From ridiculous moments about food to totally random discussions, it’ll definitely lift your spirits without asking for too much emotional investment. It’s the kind of anime that reminds you how simple and silly life can be when you don’t sweat the small stuff.

    11. One Punch Man

Sometimes, when life feels tough, you just need a superhero who’s chill and absolutely overpowered. Enter One Punch Man, where Saitama, the hero, can defeat any villain with a single punch. Sounds ridiculous, right? And it is, in the best way!

Watching Saitama casually save the day while being bored out of his mind will make you laugh and give you that needed boost. It’s fun, light, and packed with epic fights, but it’s also a reminder that not everything in life has to be taken so seriously.

    10. K-On!

This anime is like a big, warm hug. No drama, no life-or-death plots—just a bunch of high school girls forming a band and eating cake in the clubroom a lot. Yui, the clumsy guitarist, is so adorable that you can’t help but smile.

Every episode is basically a serotonin booster, and if you’re feeling down, it’s the kind of light-hearted chaos you need. Music, friendship, and fluffy vibes all the way. 10/10 comfort anime, no notes.

    9. My Ordinary Life

My Ordinary Life might have “ordinary” in the title, but it’s anything but ordinary. It’s completely random, like laugh-so-hard-you-cry kind of random. One second there’s a girl wrestling a deer, the next, a principal is flying through the air. The deadpan humor mixed with insane situations just works.

The show follows the daily antics of three high school friends—Yūko Aioi, Mio Naganohara, and Mai Minakami—and their interactions with an eight-year-old genius inventor, her robot caretaker, and a talking cat.

If you’re ever crying on the floor and need a reason to laugh again, this anime will totally pull you up. Trust me, it’s a mood.

    8. Barakamon

Ughhh, this one hit me right in the soul. It’s about a grumpy calligrapher who escapes city life and ends up on a quiet island with a bunch of chaotic locals—including the most adorable little girl, Naru, who basically steals the show.

Barakamon is one of those shows that just feels calming. It’s got plenty of funny moments, but it also hits you with some meaningful lessons about life and growth. It’s the kind of anime that makes you smile and think at the same time.

    7. My Roommate is a Cat

This one’s for all my introvert-anxiety besties. The main guy loses his parents and suddenly ends up living with a stray cat named Haru. What makes this anime super special is that you get to hear both the human’s and the cat’s perspective. In fact, it’s the simple moments they share that are so uplifting.

All in all, it’s sweet, quiet, and sometimes emotional, but in the best way. Perfect for rainy days and curling up with a blanket (and maybe your own cat 🐾).

    6. Komi Can’t Communicate

Komi is the shy queen of our dreams. She literally can’t talk to anyone and yet somehow ends up becoming the school’s most admired girl. Watching her slowly open up and make friends is so wholesome that it hurts. Not to mention, while it tackles serious themes, it still maintains a funny and lighthearted tone with a major feel-good energy.

The art is beautiful, the humor is on point, and the whole thing just makes you root for her so hard.

    5. InuYasha

InuYasha was the first real anime and manga series that I read. I quickly fell in love with the characters from feudal and modern Japan. It follows Kagome, a human girl, who is transported to feudal Japan, where she meets Inuyasha, a half-demon trapped by a sacred arrow. Together, they search for the shattered pieces of the Shikon no Tama, a jewel that grants wishes, while battling enemies and making new friends along the way.

This is a great anime series if you want something cute with a bit of the older Sailor Moon type of feel. It’s nostalgic, and the romance and laughter will keep you smiling for a while. Not to mention, it inspired so many great fanfictions!

    4. Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir

I just discovered this anime last year when I was going through anime music videos.  Depression had hit me hard, and I decided to give this anime a chance. By the first episode, I was hooked! And I do mean, soul-consuming, forget everything else hooked.

In this show, Marinette and Adrien, armed with magical Miraculous jewels, transform into Ladybug and Chat Noir to protect Paris from akumas sent by the villain Hawkmoth, all while keeping their identities a secret.

This anime is just super cute. The second season was just released, and I’m still hopelessly waiting for the next episode. The best(and most frustrating) part of the show is that Marinette is in love with Adrien, Adrien is in love with Ladybug, and Chat Noir loves Ladybug. They’re basically in love with each other, and it’s adorable and laugh-out-loud funny. Not to mention, it’ll make you throw your pillows at the tv screen.

    3. Shugo Chara

Shugo Chara was one of the first anime I watched in high school. The story centers around Amu Hinamori, an elementary school girl with a “cool and spicy” exterior, who wishes for the courage to be her true self. The next morning, she discovers three colorful eggs that hatch into Guardian Characters: Ran, Miki, and Su.

Amu’s Guardian Characters help her discover her true self and fulfill her dreams. As she struggles with her “would-be” selves, Amu learns to “chara-nari” (character transform) or “character change” for special powers, both offensive and practical. Eventually, Amu is recruited as the “Joker” to search for X Eggs and X Characters, corrupted forms of people’s dreams, which the Guardians aim to purify.

Shugo Chara will give you all the feels and remind you of what it was like to be a child again—before depression took over, when you still knew what you wanted to do and who you wanted to be in life.

    2. Himouto! Umaru Chan

I’m sure you’ve already seen the pictures for this one. Basically, Umaru Doma is considered the perfect person, but once she’s home, she turns into a lazy, selfish chibi character that just games and watches anime all day while eating snacks and drinking cola. Honestly, she sounds exactly like me!

So, if you ever feel like you’re overwhelmed with adult responsibilities, watching Umaru embrace her lazy side without any worries is sure to bring a smile to your face.

    1. Ouran High School Host Club

I just HAD to include Ouran High on this list. When I first watched this, it captured my attention quickly. Basically, Haruhi Fujioka goes to Ouran High on scholarships while most everyone else is just a rich kid that goes. She goes into Music Room 3 and accidentally breaks a vase in front of the eccentric members she meets there, and they make her work it off as their errand boy. I say, boy, because, since she has a tomboyish figure and short hair, they mistake her as a male instead of a female at first.

  • 10 Underrated Anime You’ll Absolutely Love

10 Underrated Anime You’ll Absolutely Love

Most of us have already heard of anime shows like Naruto, Bleach, and One Piece. They’re classics and highly talked about. But there are some anime shows that don’t get as much hype but deserve so much more. Let’s show a little love to some of these super awesome yet underrated anime shows and give them the love they deserve!

    1. DNAngel

    • Aired: April 2003-September 2003
    • Studio: Xebec
    • Genres: Comedy, Romance, Action

I think I read the manga for this one before I saw the anime. It was super cute, though. I rewatched this a couple of times and still love the story. It’s simple, but that’s one of the reasons that makes it so amazing. It touches your heart and reminds you of a simpler time.

The MC, Daisuke, is an angel stealing artwork in hopes of preventing world destruction, if you put it in very simple terms.

Fun fact: Vic Mignogna (Edward Elric, Tamaki Suoh, Zero Kiryu) does the English opening song, and it’s truly beautiful!

    2. Devils Line

    • Aired: April 2018
    • Studio: Platinum Vision
    • Genres: Action, Romance, Supernatural

I’ve done a couple of reviews of this anime already. I haven’t seen a ton of fans talking about it, hence, I would say it’s a pretty underrated anime. In fact, if you search for it, you might get a couple of images, but there’s a lot of mature content mixed in with some sketchy stuff. If you do go looking for it, make sure to add anime after it, or it could lead to some pretty dark places.

So far, I’m really enjoying this story. Vampires live alongside humans but have to be super careful because they are stronger and can easily hurt humans. They can also go into a frenzy and will kill if they see blood. Naturally, there is discrimination against them and harsh laws restricting their lifestyles because they are considered dangerous, and it is very easy for them to lose control.

Despite that, the vampires are essentially humans underneath. Most just want to live their lives, go to work, fall in love, and not be hated by everyone.

    3. Full Moon o Sagashite

    • Aired: April 2002 to March 2003
    • Studio: Studio Deen
    • Genres: Music, Romance, Comedy

This is another super awesome yet underrated anime. Even though it is different compared to the mang, I still loved it. It was one of my first OTP’s and ships and I cried through both the anime and the manga.

We follow Mitsuki Kouyama, a young girl with throat cancer, who dreams of becoming a professional singer and reaching her friend Eichi, who moved to America. When two shinigami reveal she only has a year left to live, Mitsuki decides to chase her dream with their help, despite the risks.

    4. Orb: On the Movements of the Earth

    • Aired: October 5, 2024 – March 15, 2025
    • Studio: Madhouse
    • Genres: Historical, Mystery, Science Fiction

Orb: On the Movements of the Earth is a historical drama set in a time when science and philosophy were still forming. It follows a young boy named Orb, who becomes fascinated by the movement of the Earth and the universe. He embarks on a journey to discover the truths of the world, struggling to balance his personal beliefs with the teachings around him.

Honestly, I loved how slow and thoughtful the story was. It felt almost meditative, like it gave me space to reflect on my own perspectives. The animation was super unique and elegant, though there were a few moments where it was a bit tricky to follow. The character development was really subtle, which I appreciated. Also, Orb’s growth wasn’t rushed at all. It’s definitely not a show for everyone, but it has this quiet charm that I really connected with!

    5. Slam Dunk

    • Aired: October 16, 1993 – March 23, 1996
    • Studio: Toei Animation
    • Genres: Comedy, Sports, Drama

Slam Dunk is a classic sports anime that follows Hanamichi Sakuragi, a high school delinquent who gets roped into playing basketball to impress a girl. He starts off clueless and clumsy, but over time, he discovers a love for the sport and works hard to improve his skills.

I absolutely loved Slam Dunk. The humor was spot-on, and the character development was amazing. Hanamichi’s awkwardness and sheer determination made him super relatable and I found myself getting way more invested in the games than I expected.

What I loved the most was how Slam Dunk balanced comedy and drama. It never took itself too seriously, but it still hit you with some really emotional moments. It’s one of those feel-good anime that just makes you want to root for the underdog, and honestly, I was cheering for Hanamichi and his team from start to finish!

    6. Space Brothers

    • Aired: April 1, 2012 – December 28, 2014
    • Studio: A-1 Pictures
    • Genres: Drama, Sci-Fi, Slice of Life

Space Brothers tells the story of two brothers, Hibito and Mutta, who share a childhood dream of becoming astronauts. While Hibito achieves his goal and lands on the moon, Mutta struggles with setbacks and self-doubt, but his determination keeps him pushing forward.

Warning: this show will definitely hit you right in the feels. It’s not just about space missions—it’s also about the personal growth of the characters. Watching Mutta’s journey was like following a real person, someone who isn’t perfect but gives it their all.

The pacing was great, and even though there were slow moments, they always built up to something meaningful.

    7. Mononoke

    • Aired: July 2007 – September 2007
    • Studio: Toei Animation
    • Genres: Horror, Mystery, Supernatural, Psychological

Mononoke is one of those shows that stands out for its creativity. The narrative style is pretty unconventional, and it forces you to think deeply about the themes of regret, guilt, and human nature. Too bad it’s still one of the most underrated psychological anime, despite airing all the way back in 2007.

I was totally blown away by how the art and animation matched the eerie, unsettling vibe of the story—it’s unlike anything I’ve seen before. It’s definitely not an easy watch, but the complexity and boldness of it all make it so worth it.

The series follows the Medicine Seller, a mysterious traveler who hunts down evil spirits called mononoke. But here’s the twist: to defeat them, he has to figure out their mononoke—basically the key to their power, which is tied to their Form, Truth, and Regret.

    8. Medalist

    • Aired: January 5, 2025 – Mar 30, 2025
    • Studio: C2C
    • Genres: Sports, Drama, Slice of Life

Medalist follows the journey of a young figure skater named Maru, who, after a series of unfortunate events, is determined to make a name for herself in the competitive world of figure skating.

I have to admit, I didn’t expect to get so emotionally invested in Medalist. The way it explores the pressures of competitive sports really hit home for me, and Maru’s perseverance through hardship was inspiring. The skating sequences were beautifully animated, capturing the elegance and intensity of the sport.

For those who like stories about pushing through adversity with a lot of heart, Medalist is a must-watch!

    9. Girls Band Cry

    • Aired: April 6, 2024 – June 29, 2024
    • Studio: Toei Animation
    • Genres: Drama, Music

Another underrated and niche anime is Girls Band Cry. The show centers around a group of high school girls who form a rock band to cope with their personal struggles and express their emotions through music.

Even though I am not into musical anime, I unexpectedly enjoyed it. In this case, the music really helped set the tone for the emotional moments. The characters are relatable and authentic, so connecting to their personal journeys was fairly easy. All in all, I found myself rooting for them to find their way and overcome their struggles.

    10. Cross Game

    • Aired: April 5, 2009 – March 28, 2010
    • Studio: SynergySP
    • Genres: Coming-of-age, Romantic Comedy, Sports

Just by looking at the key visual, you might think that Cross Game is just another straightforward sports anime. But you’d be wrong! Cross Game skillfully combines sports with deep emotional moments, resulting in a heartfelt story with a blend of sports action and relatable characters who struggle, make mistakes, and also grow along the way.

Cross Game follows the life of Kou, a talented baseball player who is struggling with the sudden death of his childhood friend, Wakaba. As he deals with grief, family pressures, and the game he loves, he finds unexpected support from her younger sister, Aoba, who’s also passionate about baseball.

  • 10 Anime Like Blue Miburo

    10 Anime Like Blue Miburo

Looking for more anime like Blue Miburo? These 10 shows have everything that you’ll love: samurai, action, and plenty of characters you’ll connect with.

    1. Rurouni Kenshin (2023)

The latest adaptation of Rurouni Kenshin offers a fresh take on the classic tale of redemption. Kenshin’s battle for peace continues as he faces new challenges while staying true to his principles.

Fans of Blue Miburo will find much to love here, especially in the way the series focuses on the deep emotional journeys of its characters. Both anime share themes of trying to move past a bloody history while upholding one’s personal morals.

The updated animation and sharp action make this version an exciting, modern addition to the classic Rurouni Kenshin formula that those who like Blue Miburo will surely enjoy.

    2. Peace Maker Kurogane

In Peace Maker Kurogane, Tetsunosuke Ichimura joins the Shinsengumi to avenge his family’s death, plunging into a world of honor, loyalty, and sacrifice. This series shares the same historical backdrop as Blue Miburo, with characters caught in the web of samurai culture, making choices that will shape their futures.

What makes both shows similar is how they explore how young characters are affected by the violent world they’re thrust into. While Peace Maker Kurogane focuses on the Shinsengumi’s moral struggles, it has that same tone of personal growth and dealing with past trauma that you’ll find in Blue Miburo.

    3. Hakuouki

Hakuouki follows Chizuru Yukimura as she discovers the hidden lives of the Shinsengumi, a group of samurai protecting Kyoto. In a similar vein to Blue Miburo, this anime blends romance, action, and the harsh realities of samurai life.

Both shows depict a delicate balance between intense action and emotional depth, with characters struggling to live up to their honor while questioning their own motives. Hakuouki‘s focus on the emotional bonds between the characters is something Blue Miburo fans will instantly connect with, especially if they are into characters who walk the fine line between duty and love.

    4. Shigurui

If you’re in the mood for something darker, Shigurui brings an intense, brutal story set during the Edo period. It’s about a duel between two samurai, but the show dives deep into their painful pasts and the heavy toll of violence.

Much like Blue Miburo, the emotional weight of the characters’ pasts drives the story forward. Both anime show the destructive consequences of violence and the internal turmoil that samurai must face. While Shigurui is more graphic, its philosophical take on honor, loss, and revenge resonates strongly with themes from Blue Miburo.

    5. Chiruran: Nibun no Ichi

Chiruran: Nibun no Ichi takes a lighter approach to the Shinsengumi, focusing on the everyday lives and quirks of the group’s members. It’s a fun, character-driven anime that explores loyalty, friendship, and humor in their daily struggles.

Even though it’s much lighter in tone than Blue Miburo, it still deals with the same themes of loyalty and personal connections within the samurai ranks. While Blue Miburo has a more serious tone, the emotional depth and camaraderie found in Chiruran can still be appreciated by fans of Blue Miburo, giving a fun take on similar subjects.

    6. House of Five Leaves

In Saraiya Goyou, we follow Akitsu Masanosuke, a quiet samurai who gets involved with a mysterious gang called the Five Leaves. It’s a slow-burn anime that focuses on the intricacies of human relationships, trust, and self-discovery.

Like Blue Miburo, Saraiya Goyou explores the emotional aspects of its characters, showing us how their pasts shape their present. Both shows portray samurai who are not just skilled in battle but also have deeply human emotions and struggles. If you enjoy the internal conflict and layered storytelling in Blue Miburo, you’ll appreciate this more introspective series.

    7. Mushishi

If you’re into Blue Miburo, Mushishi might be right up your alley. It’s not exactly samurai-focused, but it has a similar slow, introspective vibe. In this anime, Ginko, a wanderer who studies mushi (mysterious creatures), goes from place to place, meeting people and unraveling nature’s secrets.

It’s deep and reflective, just like Blue Miburo, and focuses on understanding oneself and the world. For those who liked how Blue Miburo got emotional with its characters, Mushishi does the same but in a more peaceful, almost spiritual way.

    8. Samurai Champloo

Samurai Champloo mixes samurai action with hip-hop culture, following three eccentric characters as they search for a samurai who smells of sunflowers. It’s quirky, fun, and full of multicultural characters. Moreover, Samurai Champloo offers some deep moments in between the chaos.

Just like Blue Miburo, the series explores the relationships between its characters and their personal growth. However, Champloo introduces an unconventional mix of humor and drama that makes it stand out. Both shows focus on samurai but use different tones, with Champloo bringing a more carefree vibe while still touching on themes of loyalty and finding your place in a chaotic world.

    9. Gintama

Gintama is a wild ride that combines absurd comedy with serious drama. The story follows Gintoki, a carefree samurai who constantly finds himself embroiled in bizarre situations. While the tone is often lighthearted, Gintama tackles heavy themes of honor, friendship, and sacrifice.

Similar to Blue Miburo, it’s a show that expertly balances moments of hilarity with deep emotional stakes. What ties them together is the way both anime explore the complexity of their characters, especially how the past influences their present actions. Gintama brings humor but still maintains that same emotional core.

    10. Basilisk

Basilisk is a tragic, action-packed romantic story about two warring ninja clans, where love and rivalry collide. It’s filled with intense, bloody battles and a deep focus on the characters’ personal emotions.

Much like Blue Miburo, the show deals with themes of sacrifice and loyalty, with characters torn between love and duty. Moreover, both series explore the consequences of violence and the emotional toll it takes on those involved. Basilisk takes a darker, more tragic approach, but fans of Blue Miburo will recognize the same undercurrent of emotional conflict and character development that makes both shows so compelling.

  • 10 Anime Like Loner Life in Another World

10 Anime Like Loner Life in Another World

If you’re looking for anime like Loner Life in Another World, you’re in luck! The shows listed below are packed with tried-and-true stories about characters whisked away to fantastical worlds, often starting as underdogs. Plus, they feature overpowered protagonists who begin as weaklings and often find themselves surrounded by a harem of love interests.

So, whether you enjoy watching characters power up, discover their respective worlds, or face off against powerful foes, there are plenty of anime out there that capture that same vibe!

    1. Arifureta

If there’s an anime that takes the crown for its similarity to Loner Life in Another World, it has to be Arifureta. Not only does the whole class of students end up in a fantasy world with RPG elements, but the other classmates end up getting cool abilities while the main character is left behind with “lame” powers. Luckily for our protagonist, he becomes overpowered and even acquires a harem of beautiful waifus.

The MC, Hajime Nagumo, is a high school student who gets transported to a fantasy world with his classmates. After being betrayed and left for dead, he uses his unique skills to become incredibly powerful and seek revenge.

    2. The Rising of the Shield Hero

Another isekai anime that’s strikingly similar to Loner Life in Another World is The Rising of the Shield Hero. Both main characters are sent to a world that resembles an RPG game, where they start off weak but become overpowered later. To top it off, they both gain loyal female companions along the way.

The Rising of the Shield Hero follows Naofumi Iwatani, who is summoned to a fantasy world as the Shield Hero. However, he faces betrayal and criticism from those around him. As he trains hard and builds a party of loyal companions, he fights against waves of monsters while proving his worth and seeking revenge.

    3. The Fruit of Evolution: Before I Knew It, My Life Had It Made

At this point, it feels like every isekai on this list follows the same formula. Of course, The Fruit of Evolution is no exception. Here, you’ll find all the classic elements of isekai: a harem, a protagonist who starts off weak but becomes overpowered later, and a plot that isn’t particularly deep.

In The Fruit of Evolution, Seiichi Hiiragi, an ordinary guy, gets transported to a fantasy world and discovers a mysterious fruit that gives him incredible powers. As he levels up and becomes overpowered, he also attracts a group of beautiful companions and embarks on wild adventures in his new life.

    4. Failure Frame: I Became the Strongest and Annihilated Everything With Low-Level Spells

If you enjoyed the trope of a weak protagonist who transforms into an edgy overpowered hero in Loner Life in Another World, then Failure Frame is sure to deliver.

In this anime, a whole class is summoned to a world filled with swords, magic, and monsters, but the loner Touka Mimori ends up with the weakest powers. To make things worse, the goddess and his classmates abandon and banish him. However, he soon discovers that his “weakest spells” are actually very powerful, leading to his rise from being an outcast to becoming the strongest.

    5. Tsukimichi -Moonlit Fantasy-

Tsukimichi: Moonlit Fantasy follows Makoto Misumi, an ordinary guy who gets summoned to a fantasy world, only to be rejected by the goddess for not being “heroic” enough. With his unique skills, he sets out on his own adventure, making powerful friends and taking on all sorts of challenges in this new world.

In both series, the MCs start their journey in a new world only to be rejected almost immediately. However, they soon become OP, effortlessly dealing with any threats, and are joined by beautiful girls.

    6. Cautious Hero: The Hero Is Overpowered but Overly Cautious

Another isekai anime with an OP protagonist like Loner Life in Another World is Cautious Hero.

The anime revolves around Seiya Ryuuguuin, a hero summoned to save a fantasy world who takes extreme caution in every situation, despite being overpowered. His overly careful approach leads to hilarious and unpredictable outcomes as he prepares for battles that most would consider already won.

    7. The World’s Finest Assassin Gets Reincarnated in Another World as an Aristocrat

The World’s Finest Assassin Gets Reincarnated in Another World as an Aristocrat offers a unique twist on the isekai genre by focusing on a skilled assassin who is given a second chance at life in a new world. With so many low-quality isekai out there, it’s a rare gem in the sea of mediocrity.

The series has the type of edginess and action that Loner in Another World fans enjoy. Also, to make things even better, most of the characters receive actual character development.

    8. Chillin’ in Another World with Level 2 Cheats

Chillin’ in Another World with Level 2 Cheats is pretty self-explanatory just from its title. In addition to featuring the extremely popular demi-human waifu Fenrys, it follows the classic formula of a hero being summoned only to initially feel powerless. That is, until the protagonist hits level 2 and gains incredible cheat powers!

Much like Loner Life in Another World, Chillin’ in Another World with Level 2 Cheats showcases boys who are summoned to a fantasy world and quickly deemed useless. Yet, they eventually become the strongest individuals in their worlds, adored by many.

    9. So I’m a Spider, So What?

Perhaps you enjoy isekai stories where the main characters start weak but gain amazing powers, and character development is what you’re after. If so, then So I’m a Spider, So What? is something you’d love, even though it doesn’t have a harem and features a female protagonist.

The protagonist of this story is a high school girl who is reincarnated as a spider in a fantasy world after a mysterious incident wipes out her class. Don’t expect any noble goals; she just wants to survive!

    10. That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime

For those who love badass protagonists in isekai, That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime should be on your watch list. The twist with Rimuru is that he’s on the monster side rather than the human side. Much like Haruka in Loner Life in Another World, Rimuru evolves from a weakling to an overpowered protagonist.

In this anime, Satoru Mikami is killed and reincarnated as a slime, the weakest species, in a fantasy world. However, he quickly gains powerful abilities and builds a community of monsters while dealing with various challenges.

  • Top 20 Mature Manga Worth Reading

Top 20 Mature Manga Worth Reading

There is a common misconception among many people that anime (and manga) is only for kids. The truth is, this couldn’t be farther from reality. Both manga and anime are mediums; their content can be mature and explore dark, gritty, or simply adult themes just like any other series or movies.

In this article, we selected the top 20 mature manga across various genres, ensuring that there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

    20. Hope

Who says that shoujo can’t be dark? While we are usually used to lighthearted romance shoujo, Hope is anything but that.

Shy artist Hikari spends all her time doodling manga in the corner. But a strange event changes everything. Now, she’ll chase her dream of becoming a manga artist in a unique competition!

This manga tackles deep themes and the MC suffers quite a bit, so you might also be sad from reading it.

    19. Wolfsmund

Wolfsmund, also known as Wolf’s Maw in English, is a dark historical manga set in the early 14th century (around 1315) in Switzerland. The story revolves around the oppressive rule of a tyrant named Wolfram who oversees the Wolfsmund fortress located in the St. Gotthard Pass.

As expected from a mature historical manga, the series doesn’t sugarcoat the brutality of the Middle Ages. However, if you’re into survival or death game-type genres, it’s definitely worth reading.

    18. Bartender

After the inhumanity we introduced in the previous title, Bartender falls on the opposite side of the spectrum; it’s extra wholesome and soothing.

Those seeking action-packed anime might frown upon the promise of this manga. After all, it’s a simple plot about a genius bartender who helps depressed people. Each time, he listens to their problems and gives advice while serving drinks. This cycle repeats with different customers.

    17. Drifters

Drifters throws a bunch of tough guys from different historical periods – samurai, special forces soldiers, hitmen – into a strange new world full of magic and monsters. In order to find a way back home, they first have to survive.

It goes without question that this manga explores mature themes like war, survival, and the nature of good and evil. Moreover, it isn’t shy about bloody battles and intense fighting sequences. To top it off, the characters are complex and flawed, lending the story a more grounded approach.

    16. Velvet Kiss

Finding a dark and dramatic romantic manga story is certainly rare. While most romance manga center around happy-go-lucky high schoolers, which isn’t inherently bad, if you’re seeking something deeper, you might have a harder time finding it.

In Velvet Kiss, a down-on-his-luck businessman gets tricked into a massive debt. His loan officer offers a solution – befriending a rich girl in exchange for freezing the debt. This girl is Kanoko, a spoiled and lonely heiress. Shin struggles to deal with Kanoko’s difficult personality. However, as they spend time together, Shin starts to understand Kanoko’s loneliness, and she might see a kind side to him.

    15. My Happy Marriage

Many label My Happy Marriage as the 1000th remake of Cinderella. While not necessarily untrue, this version adds a superpower twist to the story and deeply explores the theme of finding self-worth after years of abuse.

Miyo Saimori’s life is a living nightmare. Unloved and mistreated by her family after her mother’s death, she sees no hope for a better future.

However, one day, her father arranges a marriage for Miyo with Kiyoka Kudou, a powerful and wealthy man. Miyo expects the worst, but Kiyoka treats her with surprising kindness and affection.

    14. Akumetsu

Akumetsu is a dark and violent seinen manga with a complex plot. To many, including me, Akumetsu is what Death Note wishes to be. That being said, this manga is full of brutal killings and violence, so it’s not for everyone.

In this manga, Shou, a vigilante, seeks to reform the corrupt Japanese government through acts of terrorism, guided by his “One man, One kill” code of action.

Needless to say, for those seeking an adrenaline-fueled story with a gritty undertone and a complex moral dilemma, Akumetsu might be an interesting read.

    13. Sweat and Soap

We are back in the romance genre to lighten the mood a bit. Sweat and Soap follows a self-conscious Asako who works at a soap company, relying on their products to hide her sweat and odor. When a developer compliments her unique scent, they develop a surprising romance.

Clearly intended for adult audiences, this manga is ideal for fans of josei romance seeking a blend of warmth, sensuality, and mature themes.

    12. Taishou Maiden Fairytale

Despite being adapted into an anime in 2021, Taisho Otome Fairy Tale remains a hidden romance gem. While some may classify it as a wholesome wish-fulfillment story, this doesn’t lessen its charm in the slightest.

Those interested in learning a bit more about Japanese life and culture during the Taisho era will love this romance manga. Also, witnessing a broken male MC slowly find love and support in his bride destines Taishou Maiden Fairytale as a cornerstone feel-good mature manga.

    11. Black Lagoon

Inspired by real-life Southeast Asian pirates and the action-comedy of Tarantino and Hong Kong cinema, Rei Hiroe crafted the world of Black Lagoon. The manga takes place in a dark world and doesn’t shy away from the harsh realities.

Black Lagoon is about a boring office worker, Rock, who gets kidnapped by a crew of wild mercenaries in Southeast Asia. Stuck with them, he ditches his dull life for a crazy adventure.

This crew isn’t your average bunch. Revy, the fierce leader, blasts away problems with her twin pistols. Dutch, the quiet muscle, is a mystery, and Benny keeps their tech running. There’s even Roberta, a deadly loli assassin (don’t let the cuteness fool you).

    10. Dorohedoro

Dorohedoro isn’t for the faint of heart. It throws brutal violence, body horror, and a dark and unforgiving world at you. The story can be complex with lots of characters and twists, so you’ll need to pay attention.

The manga takes place in a gruesome world where sorcerers turn people into monsters. Caiman, a lizard-headed amnesiac, hunts them with his doctor Nikaido, seeking a cure in a wild blend of dark fantasy, action, and humor.

    9. Fruits Basket

Some anime are really good at making you feel things, and Fruits Basket is one of them. It handles sensitively mature themes like abuse, loneliness, depression, and toxic relationships. Moreover, the series doesn’t dwell on graphic details and instead mixes them with heartwarming moments.

Fruits Basket follows an orphan called Tohru Honda who ends up living with the mysterious Sohma family, unaware they’re cursed to transform into the zodiac animals!

    8. Oshi no Ko

Being an idol is a dream of many people, particularly the younger ones. However, those who choose this difficult career path are bound to discover sooner or later the dark side of fame, the exploitation of young talents, and the sacrifices made for success.

Oshi no Ko’s premise doesn’t stand out at first. It’s a story about the reincarnation of two deceased people, a doctor and a sick girl, who are both huge fans of a beautiful idol, Ai Hoshino. The twist? They are reborn as her children.

With that being said, the manga blends the idol genre with mystery and drama, adding a grim flavor to the story.

    7. Nana

Nana follows two young women named Nana, both chasing dreams in Tokyo. One Nana, a punk rocker, seeks musical fame, while the other seeks love and stability.
