One reviewer admitted, “the title of your favourite character will most likely be reassigned several times throughout the series, for me it has finally settled on Ayane”. Adorable Food Goddess is a refreshing yet weird blend of genres. It feels like an isekai anime but there is no fantasy aspect. However, there are all the slice-of-life themes most fans will love.

Trying to protect the city which in the coming future was being assaulted by beast and ended up being destroyed as well as protecting his lover, friends, and family who died by the beast assault, and to destroy the sacred family whom abandon their duty and betrayed the city in his past life.
The anime has a slower-paced plot and some flaws, but its deep lore and memorable characters make it worth checking out. Iโd recommend giving it a try!

Lan Mo’s Flower is a sweet and touching romance donghua that many people can relate to at some point in their lives. With just 9 episodes, it’s an easy series to dive into and enjoy.

Spiritpact has lovable and memorable characters that stick with you. While it leaves some questions unanswered, it doesn’t feel frustratingโit’s simple and engaging enough to keep you hooked, and before you know it, you’ll be watching the final credits roll.
Soul Land is a donghua similar to Tales of Demons and Gods, but I feel itโs executed a bit better. The 3D art style really works for this series, making the fight scenes look even more impressive.

Teen Titans is about a group of young superheroesโRobin, Starfire, Beast Boy, Raven, and Cyborgโwho team up to protect their city and face off against some pretty dangerous villains.
If you’re looking for superhero shows, Teen Titans (the original series) is always a good recommendation, and it has a bit of romance as well. I was obsessed as a young teen with the original. We don’t think about the new remake they did and prefer to remember the team as they are.
2. Trollhunters: Tales of Arcadia
If you like 3d animation style that’s similar to Miraculous Ladybug, you’ll probably like Trollhunters. It follows the story of James “Jim” Lake Jr., a teenage boy who finds a mysterious amulet and stumbles across a secret realm inhabited by trolls and other magical creatures. Soon afterward, he and his friends are charged with protecting the world from the dangerous monsters that lurk in the shadows of their small suburban town.
The story was continued in a science fiction-inspired follow-up series entitled 3Below: Tales of Arcadia, and the trilogy concluded in a third and final fantasy series entitled Wizards: Tales of Arcadia.

Hisoka is a captivating and somewhat edgy character known for his manipulative nature. With his seductiveness and playful demeanor, he often draws others in while hiding his true intentions. Kyubey presents himself as a helpful ally, but heโs really more of a puppet master, tricking the girls into making choices that serve his purpose. His cutesy looks and demeanor contrast sharply with the dark consequences of his actions, making him a fascinating and manipulative character.
12. Yuno Gasai (The Future Diary)
Perhaps yandere girls are your thing. If thatโs the case, Yuno Gasai might be right up your alley. But be carefulโsheโs very dangerous! Not only is she skilled in combat, but her manipulative personality and intelligence also give her an edge in the battle royale that the series revolves around.
Her obsessive love for the main character, Yukiteru, drives her to manipulate everyone around her, including her love interest himself. Yuno certainly isn’t above using deception or intimidation to protect him or achieve her goals.

14. Blue Exorcist: Beyond the Snow Saga

Blue Exorcist is a classic school-set shonen anime with a likable main character at its core. Dragon Ball Daima is a new Dragon Ball anime series where Goku and his friends are magically turned into children. They embark on a new adventure to find a way to reverse the transformation and uncover the mystery behind it.
Daima was initially planned as an anime-original series without Akira Toriyama’s input. However, after offering some advice, Toriyama became deeply involved, creating the story, world, characters, mechs, and more. He handled the story, settings, and many of the designs.

15. My Happy Marriage
Many label My Happy Marriage as the 1000th remake of Cinderella. While not necessarily untrue, this version adds a superpower twist to the story and deeply explores the theme of finding self-worth after years of abuse.
Miyo Saimori’s life is a living nightmare. Unloved and mistreated by her family after her mother’s death, she sees no hope for a better future.

Akumetsu is a dark and violent seinen manga with a complex plot. To many, including me, Akumetsu is what Death Note wishes to be. That being said, this manga is full of brutal killings and violence, so it’s not for everyone.
In this manga, Shou, a vigilante, seeks to reform the corrupt Japanese government through acts of terrorism, guided by his “One man, One kill” code of action.
Needless to say, for those seeking an adrenaline-fueled story with a gritty undertone and a complex moral dilemma, Akumetsu might be an interesting read.
13. Sweat and Soap
We are back in the romance genre to lighten the mood a bit. Sweat and Soap follows a self-conscious Asako who works at a soap company, relying on their products to hide her sweat and odor. When a developer compliments her unique scent, they develop a surprising romance.
Clearly intended for adult audiences, this manga is ideal for fans of josei romance seeking a blend of warmth, sensuality, and mature themes.
12. Taishou Maiden Fairytale
Despite being adapted into an anime in 2021, Taisho Otome Fairy Tale remains a hidden romance gem. While some may classify it as a wholesome wish-fulfillment story, this doesn’t lessen its charm in the slightest.
Those interested in learning a bit more about Japanese life and culture during the Taisho era will love this romance manga. Also, witnessing a broken male MC slowly find love and support in his bride destines Taishou Maiden Fairytale as a cornerstone feel-good mature manga.
11. Black Lagoon
Inspired by real-life Southeast Asian pirates and the action-comedy of Tarantino and Hong Kong cinema, Rei Hiroe crafted the world of Black Lagoon. The manga takes place in a dark world and doesn’t shy away from the harsh realities.
Black Lagoon is about a boring office worker, Rock, who gets kidnapped by a crew of wild mercenaries in Southeast Asia. Stuck with them, he ditches his dull life for a crazy adventure.

9. Fruits Basket
Some anime are really good at making you feel things, and Fruits Basket is one of them. It handles sensitively mature themes like abuse, loneliness, depression, and toxic relationships. Moreover, the series doesn’t dwell on graphic details and instead mixes them with heartwarming moments.
Fruits Basket follows an orphan called Tohru Honda who ends up living with the mysterious Sohma family, unaware they’re cursed to transform into the zodiac animals!
8. Oshi no Ko
Being an idol is a dream of many people, particularly the younger ones. However, those who choose this difficult career path are bound to discover sooner or later the dark side of fame, the exploitation of young talents, and the sacrifices made for success.
Oshi no Ko’s premise doesn’t stand out at first. It’s a story about the reincarnation of two deceased people, a doctor and a sick girl, who are both huge fans of a beautiful idol, Ai Hoshino. The twist? They are reborn as her children.
With that being said, the manga blends the idol genre with mystery and drama, adding a grim flavor to the story.
7. Nana

Punpun Onodera is a young boy with a distinctive bird-like appearance. He deals with the complexities of childhood and adolescence. We see the world through his eyes as he deals with family troubles, loss, bullying, and the confusion of growing up.
Now, Goodnight Punpun definitely isn’t a light read, but it offers a powerful and thought-provoking exploration of human emotions and the struggles of growing up.
4. Vinland Saga
Vinland Saga is a brutal and epic historical drama set in Viking times. While its premise is relatively simple, its dark and gritty setting and well-developed characters set it apart from other manga in similar genres. The characters also grapple with moral dilemmas, PTSD, and the emotional toll of violence.
The manga focuses on Thorfinn, a young Icelandic warrior fueled by revenge, who seeks to kill Askeladd, the man who slew his father.
3. Monster
A cult classic, Monster centers around Dr. Kenzo Tenma, a brilliant surgeon, who makes a life-altering decision. He chooses to save a young boy named Johan Liebert over a prominent politician. However, this choice sets off a chain of events that shatters Tenma’s world.

2. Vagabond
Vagabond tells a fictional story based on a real swordsman, Miyamoto Musashi. It starts in war-torn Japan. Takezo, a wild and violent young man, runs away and joins a battle. After things go wrong, he’s framed as a criminal and left for dead. A kind monk saves him and gives him a new name: Musashi Miyamoto. This is the start of Musashi’s journey.
Often praised for breathtaking art, thought-provoking themes, and compelling character development, it’s surprising that not even one studio has tried to adapt it. Unfortunately, Vagabond has been on hiatus for 8 years, with the last chapter released on May 21, 2015.

Berserk is the king of mature manga. Its violence, complex story, and tragedy make it unsuitable for younger viewers. On the other hand, adult audiences can easily appreciate this masterpiece’s complexity and beauty. According to many, the anime adaptations, particularly the 2017 series, haven’t always captured the full brilliance of the manga.
Our protagonist, Guts, is a lone warrior wielding a giant sword who wanders a bleak world filled with monsters and human cruelty. Haunted by a dark past, he fights for survival and vengeance, searching for meaning in a world seemingly devoid of hope.
Although its creator, Kentaro Miura, passed away in 2021, Miura’s close friend, Kouji Mori, the only person entrusted with the entire Berserk narrative, will take the reins and finish the story.
Best manga you should read in 2024? Well, let me think about that. I’ve been exploring manga across genres for nearly two decades. I’ve read everything ranging from heartwarming slice-of-life through detective mystery to crazy isekai, and now I’m really excited to share my seasoned recommendations with you.
I know a few good ones I can recommend. And wow, do I feel kind of old now! Yes! That being said, manga offers a different experience compared to anime. Also, not every fantastic manga receives an anime adaptation, so you can experience some of the rich worlds filled with iconic characters and gripping plotlines only if you read.

Good parents want their kids to be happy. Although I may not be a parent myself as of writing this list, my mother supported me and my siblings growing up. I loved this wholesome manga where the mom understood her son. It was rare to see a parent’s viewpoint in a manga. This manga is also called Uchi no Musuko wa Tabun Gay.
In this LGBTQIA+-friendly family comedy, a mother and her two sons go about their daily lives. Hiroki, the eldest son, is starting to think about sex and romance. Although Tomoko, the mother, suspects that Hiroki might be gay, she is going to let him realize it for himself. Despite belonging to a family of four, the Aoyama residence is typically home to three due to Father Akiyoshi’s job. The story is hilarious and heartwarming, which makes it one of the best LGBTQIA manga out there.

Even though it looks like a murder mystery, it’s actually a philosophical manga that explores deep ideas. The main character has a cool design and an interesting perspective on life. The artwork is clean and nice, and the dialogue and character designs are amazing.
College student Totonou Kunou is suspected of murder when a classmate is found dead near his house. Despite his claims of innocence, a witness places him at the crime scene. As evidence piles up, Totonou uses his deductive skills to solve the mystery, clear his name, and find the real culprit.

The story focuses on adults, making it a refreshing take on the action/childcare genre. If you’re a fan of this genre, Kindergarten Wars is definitely worth reading.

I’m loving Yamamori Mika’s latest work, In the Clear Moonlit Dusk, aka Uruwashi no Yoi no Tsuki. The mangaka is known for popular romance series like Daytime Shooting Star or Tsubaki-chou Lonely Planet, both of which have significant fanbases.
It’s not that often that you run into manga where you can confidently say that both leads are likable. However, this manga has this quality. Moreover, the art is beautiful. I would say that overall, it’s a promising shoujo read.
Yoi Takiguchi is known as the school’s “prince” due to her boyish looks and casual attitude. Kohaku Ichimura, another school “prince,” enters her life and calls her beautiful. Although Yoi tries to distance herself, Kohaku’s compliments make her nervous, and she cannot ignore the feelings he stirs in her heart.

I love Kono Oto Tomare! It has excellent characterization, and an engaging and meaningful plot, and uses literary devices like motifs, symbols, and imagery to create a well-paced story. The mangaka clearly treats their characters and story with care and patience, which is also why it deserves a place as one of the best manga out there.
Takezou Kurata becomes the new president of the Koto Music Club after all the other members graduate. Struggling to recruit anyone, Kurata loses hope until Chika Kudou, a delinquent, offers to join and become the new president. Witch Hat Atelier aka Tongari Boushi no Atelier feels like stepping into a fairytale. There are witches and medieval vibes all over. Also, the art is stunning. The magic system starts simple but gets more interesting as you go, and it feels really thought out. I’m only a few chapters in, but I can’t believe how good it is!
The manga follows Coco, a dressmaker’s daughter, who discovers that her favorite picture book is actually a magic book. So, she starts testing spells. One spell causes a disaster, but Qifrey, a skilled witch, rescues her and decides to train her. Together, they aim to track down the Brimmed Caps, a dangerous group of heretics. Also, the artwork shines during skating scenes and emotional moments. The story is great, and the characters are lovable. All in all, Medalist is one of the best sports manga and a must-read for fans of the genre, especially those who like figure skating.
The story follows a coach, Tsukasa, who couldn’t become a solo skater because he started late. He sees himself in a new student, Inori, who everyone says can’t succeed because she’s also a beginner. Tsukasa vows to train her and help her become a medalist, a different path than his own.

I heard about Gachiakuta because Urana Kei assisted on Fire Force. Thankfully, it lives up to Ookubo’s standards. The first three chapters are the strongest, with Rudo’s fall into the abyss leaving countless questions. He joins a group and learns the combat system, with great artwork and twists in the plot. I have been enjoying my time with this manga.
Rudo and his foster father Legto live in the slums of a wealthy town. Rudo regularly searches through the town’s garbage for anything valuable. One day, Rudo returns home to find Legto dying and is accused of murder. He is thrown into the Abyss but instead of dying, he finds himself surrounded by monsters made of trash. Enjin, a janitor, saves Rudo and convinces him to become a janitor to fight his way out of the Abyss and avenge Legto’s death.

I was skeptical about Fool Night’s dystopian theme at first, but as I read on, I found it well-executed. There are complex and interesting characters and you can be sure that the manga will make you think hard about right and wrong. All in all, it has elements of body horror that explore the darker sides of society and survival.
The future is rough in Fool Night! Earth’s covered in clouds, oxygen’s rare, and people can turn into plants to survive. Toshiro’s gotta decide if that’s the only way to save his sick mom. He can’t afford her meds, and things are getting desperate. This story’s gonna test how human people can be!

There are supernatural elements but the manga is consistent with actual physics, which is great because it looks at least somewhat realistic. Too bad that it doesn’t have that many readers despite its quality.

This is my favorite manga. The writing is mature, the stories are not typical, and it follows the rule of “show, not tell.” The ideas are grounded and realistic, and the author tells personal stories. Read this manga if you liked Holy Land, The Climber,or Real. It will leave a lasting impression, at least it did with me.

This manga was a bit atypical. First, the strange cover art caught my attention, and then I found out there was an elderly protagonist. I mean, that’s not something you see every day in manga or anime. Just like the protagonist, the story felt refreshing, with deep themes including end-of-life regrets, sexuality, and the age gap. Overall, it’s deeper than expected, and Haru is the best girl.
Umiko Chino, a 65-year-old widow, visits the cinema when her VCR breaks down. During the movie, she notices a young person in the audience who later introduces himself as Kai Hamauchi, a film student. After fixing her VCR, Kai asks Umiko if she wants to make a movie with him, which changes her life.

I’m loving the new manga by Ishida Sui (the mangaka behind Tokyo Ghoul). It’s a guilty pleasure that feels like heaven, or maybeโฆ hell? It seems promising so far and Ishida’s talent is evident in his use of symbols. The story is emotional and the art is fantastic. I hope he takes the time he needs to deliver a beautiful and well-written story. I’d give it an 8.5 if I had to rank it and can’t wait to see what happens next!

Manga that can make you laugh and cry? That would be Sundome. The plot of Sundome centers on an indifferent young guy whose life is turned upside down when a confident girl approaches him about joining the same after-school club that he already belongs to.
An emotional read with lots of fanservice, this manga isn’t for everyone because it contains a fair amount of nihilism and tragedy. I’d say that you either enjoy this or you don’t. Since I can easily imagine these things happening somewhere in the actual world, I’d even go so far as to say that this is a pretty realistic story.

The manga explores themes of forgiveness, empathy, and overcoming guilt in a way that tugs at your heartstrings. The artwork is amazing, especially during touching moments and when portraying the struggles of deafness.
Since Koe no Katachi shows you both sides of the story, you will understand both characters and their struggles. In fact, you’ll end up rooting for them both in the end!

A dark fantasy with stunning art, Berserk is an epic story full of violence and dark stuff. Both fights and characters look incredible. Due to its lasting impact on both readers and the genre, I find Berserk the best manga you can read if you can handle mature themes.
Sadly, Miura Kentarou, the mangaka behind this masterpiece, passed away in 2021. The story, however, is being continued by Miura’s close friend and fellow manga artist, Kouji Mori. Assistants and apprentices from Miura’s studio, Studio Gaga, are also contributing to the artwork.
The main character, Guts, fights his way through a crazy world filled with demons using a giant sword. He’s got a dark past and a complicated relationship with his best friend (who turned evil).
