July 2021 was the premier of a new animated adventure…Centaurworld. Thousands of people signed in to watch the new show on Netflix (which felt like a nod to Adventure Time) and eagerly waited for the next season. Once it finished though, it was like it vanished. The fandom is much smaller than when it first aired, or most of the fans have gone quiet. Even so, after watching this, I knew I had to write a blog post on it to prove that this wasn’t just a fever dream and it HAD happened.
If you’ve seen the images of the show, you might be surprised when you first watch it.
I mean the first episode starts like this…

Yeah. Talk about whiplash.
Centaurworld follows a war horse named Horse who is transported from her world to another. Her world is filled with war and death while this new world is filled with different types of centaurs and everything is bright and bubbly (at first appearance). Desperate to return home, she follows new friends to find her way and get back to her Rider.
Soon, Horse finds out that she has to find pieces of a key to unlock the portal to get to her world. While most of the story is silly with some AMAZING songs and funny moments, you start to see bits and pieces of a darker theme. Every story has a villain after all…
Characters
Horse
The horse is one of the main characters and one of the first that we’re introduced to. She is the one trying to get home after all. When she first arrives in Centaurworld, she is fierce and apathetic, but as the series goes on, she becomes softer (literally. Her body goes from looking like an actual horse to a beach ball in her words).
Rider
The rider is the next main character we’re introduced to. We don’t see much of her in the first season, but she’s in the second almost as much as the rest of the main characters. Her goal is to end the war and is fierce in everything she does, much like Horse.
Glendale
Okay, Glendale has to be my favorite in the show. She’s eccentric, over-reacts and over-thinks everything, and has major anxiety. Maybe I’m projecting, but I get automatically thinking of the worst-case scenarios for everything. Glendale is also a kleptomaniac and sometimes steals without even being aware of it. As one of her songs says, she steals so she can feel.
Zulius
Zulius is exceedingly trendy, flamboyant, and self-indulgent. He is often observed scrutinizing his appearance by using a mirror. When Zulius finds even a minor flaw in his appearance, he turns into a wreck and is upset.
Ched
Ched is rowdy, combative, and quick to act, thus making other people uncomfortable. He cultivates a paranoid, distrusting frame of mind, considering many people or species to be untrustworthy until he knows them well. Ched either resolutely brushes off minor issues or forcefully addresses them through brute force, not paying enough attention to insignificant things they could lead to.
Wammawink
Wammawink is an alpaca-taur who appears bright and bubbly all the time. She’s the Mom friend of the herd. We find that her past was rough as the war claimed the lives of everyone in the village she lived in.
Durpleton
He is talkative and friendly with other people but may lose sight of what’s going on around him. This may lead to missing out on an activity or the need to search for his body. He lacks even basic common sense, but he is extremely passionate and excitable. He is quick to trust and befriend anyone he can, readily overlooking their weaknesses or even dangers. Despite his substantial build, he’s extremely meek about using physical violence until it’s necessary. When he does take action, Durpleton proves powerful enough to take on several minotaurs at once with little effort.
The Nowhere King
And finally…the antagonist of Centaurworld.
The Nowhere King is a complicated character and I love it. He’s like Loki, in that sometimes you think he’s misunderstood but also have to acknowledge the evil he caused.
He started as an Elk-taur that fell in love with a human. Feeling inferior and having a deep fear she could ever return those feelings, he used a spell to split himself into two: one human and one Elk, planning to be the human. This plan fails though as he becomes the Elk and his human half turns on him and marries the human that he was in love with. He used a key (the same one Horse is searching for) to create a family but it corrupted him. He became The Nowhere King both physically and mentally, even with a creepy theme song that caused the war going on in both worlds and caused the deaths of so many.
So yeah, Centaurworld is a wonderful and amazing show. I recommend that everyone give it a watch.
I went into this series blind, and the only thing I knew about it was that everyone loved the manga, and seeing the trailer for To Your Eternity (Fumetsu no Anata e), I was interested but even more curious about this series after finding out the creator was none other than Yoshitoki Ooima the creator of A Silent Voice (Koe no Katachi) after that I could see why there was a buzz about it.
Different from her second work A Silent Voice that was a grounded story, To Your Eternity, takes a different route being more fantastical though still trying to look at the experiences of life highs and lows. Was it good though? What were its key themes, and the impressions it left us with? Let’s look!

Synopsis

What did I think?
Right off let me point out at least for me, To Your Eternity wasn’t a series that tugged at my heart and not because I’m a cold, heartless individual but it didn’t do it for me. It wasn’t a bad series at all though right from the first episode; it was a beautiful short movie by itself, that was emotional, when you listened to the characters and the things not said but subtly implied.
I was expecting a grand coming of the age-adventure story with themes about human nature, questioning what it meant to live and teaching us to enjoy the little moment, more slice of life like with excellent character development. But what I got was different, not bad but not what I expected. Which I felt though already seen as a masterpiece to some could have been better.
The Nokkers for example came out of nowhere to me and felt unnecessary. I thought I signed up for an immortal being and other characters just dealing with relatively normal life problems like the loss of a loved one, moving on from terrible experiences, not an alien invasion.
To describe To Your Eternity is not simple. It’s more than just a supernatural drama. It tries to cast us on an emotional journey, celebrating how special and unique life is. Selling its story exactly how it wants to with its creative characters, unique storytelling, and that touches upon the deepest elements of humanity. It won’t be for everyone but should give it a try and see for yourself what camp you fall into.
STORY
I could describe To Your Eternity as somewhat of a niche series. The story looks at the power of emotions and how those emotions form us, our protagonist meets unique characters and learns from their struggles. Though the story can feel slow-paced, overstaying its welcome sometimes and kind of unfocused sometimes, making it feel like it doesn’t know what it wants to be.
To Your Eternity is a character-driven story in a fantasy world, with moments that sometimes resonates deeply with its viewers because of its relatability, reminding us to enjoy the company of our loved one despite knowing that we will eventually separate from them because of different reasons either permanently or temporarily because no matter the reasons for the distance the moments shared are what make life special.
CHARACTERS
Our protagonist Fushi is curious about the world around him but cannot understand certain elements and concepts of humanity, being one of the most complex characters of the series first being personality-less at the beginning of the series, then animalistic, childish, and then slowly becoming more compassionate and understanding about himself and others around him.
Other characters’ personalities are fascinating and colorful. With every character being an important part of Fushi’s development, whether it’s to shape him into being more human or making him more understanding to us, or being a more understanding person. Characters are lovable and have their storylines.
ANIMATION
The animation quality was stunning. Characters, transformations, choreographed battles and scenes seemed to have more depth to them. They kept thought even in brief scenes of solitary moments or characters moving from one location to another. Making it pleasing to the eyes especially during its moments of calm and less dark and brutal moments.
SOUND
To Your Eternity’s voice acting was great, with accompanying music that can be wonderful helping complement the narration, thrill, and mystery. I especially noticed how it helped set the mood for some of Fushi’s moments of growth and made them feel more fleshed out.

Least favourite moment?
Episodes 5 and 16 of To Your Eternity. After their adventure I wanted March and Parona to have happier lives.
Favourite character?
If I have to pick that would have to be Tonari Dalton
Though a bit manipulative, she cares greatly for her friends. Willing to risk her life for them.
Least favourite character?
Shin (Gugu’s Older Brother)
Family is always important. But he forgets that at one point.
What did I learn?
What I learned from To Your Eternity;
Enjoy life, it goes by fast.
Make sure you’re around for the little moments in life not just the big ones.
Remember to let your loved ones know you care about them.
Family is important and they can be blood related or not.
Always keep learning and try seeing things from others perspective too.
It’s ok not to be ok
Getting over loss takes time and doesn’t completely go away even if your immortal
Would I watch more?
Overall, To Your Eternity is an anime with an interesting enough premise, that throws a lot at its viewers, trying to work with too much at once but in the end, the series is not for everyone so you will either praise it to high heavens or hate it.
But I would like to watch another season to see where the story goes from where we were left and see if we get more coming of the age scenes that are better and leave me thinking after the credits.

Whether it’s with their varied storytelling, memorable characters, or their distinct animation style, Studio Ghibli has created some of the most imaginative and beloved animated films over the decades. Making them one of the most celebrated and acclaimed animation studios out there.
Often described as Japan’s answer to Walt Disney, Studio Ghibli seems to be dedicated to capturing the unique sense of wonder, joy, and magic in the day-to-day life that words alone just can’t do. But like with all things, some of Studio Ghibli’s movies are more enjoyable than others.
So let’s look at our golden standard here for the best Studio Ghibli movies, ranked from the not-so-good, the best, and everything in between. Please note none of these movies are terrible, but we are just going to be very nitpicky.
When a mischievous orphan, Earwig is adopted. She discovers her new home is full of invisible rooms, potions, and spell books, with magic around every corner. Most children would be terrified, but not Earwig. Using her cleverness—with a lot of help from a talking cat—she shows her new magical family who’s boss.
This movie received a lot of backlash for the CGI animation and plot, but it was a fun movie, maybe not as good as the other Ghibli films on our list, but it was entertaining. Though the movie went by fast. Maybe too fast, especially towards the end, which was rather unsatisfying. It’s a very laid-back movie with minor drama, so don’t expect the thrill other Ghibli movies have.
22. Tales from Earthsea

When the balance of the world decays, an archmage and a fugitive prince journey to find the source of evil. It goes beyond the classical battle between the forces of good and evil and explores the inner battles of the heart.
Set in a magical world, with a more serious tone instead of the usual playfulness and humor that Studio Ghibli is known for, the story tries to do everything and nothing at the same time looking at how we treat each other, saving the earth, and the adventures of the characters which don’t always have much direction with the plot of saving the world that is on the verge of destruction.
21. Pom Poko
Title: Heisei Tanuki Gassen Ponpoko

The Tanuki, according to Japanese folklore, are playful raccoons that have the power to shape-shift. The film focuses on a forest of Tanuki who have long since abandoned their shape-shifting ways. But when urban development threatens their forest home. The Tanukis’ begins re-learning shape-shifting, as taught by their forest’s elders, to prepare for the imminent showdown between man and them.
This film is the wild card of Studio Ghibli and a uniquely Japanese breath of fresh air for animation and storytelling and while I can never look at raccoons the same way again, the film’s environmental severe concerns shine in a largely comedy-filled film.
20. My Neighbors the Yamadas
Title: Tonari no Yamada-kun

Theme(s): Comedy, Slice of Life
The Yamadas, is an intimate and fun look into the lives of a typical Japanese family, coping with the day-to-day situations that life throws at them while smiling and laughing through their otherwise dull and mundane lives.
Like any Studio Ghibli film, it is refreshing, warm and the perfect movie to watch with the whole family. This show has the potential of bringing families together with its relatability about family, being a spouse, being a parent, being a child, grandchild, and being a daughter or son-in-law.
19. The Ocean Waves
Title: Umi ga Kikoeru
Aired: May 5, 1993
Theme(s): Drama, Romance, School, Slice of Life
Going to his high school reunion, Taku Morisaki recounts his memories of his school days, focusing in particular on a love triangle that developed between him and two of his friends. Coming to terms with his feelings and understanding of how a girl with a troubled past has had such a massive effect on his life.
The Ocean Waves is a more grounded, realistic telling of a romance between three people without all the supernatural elements you are used to seeing in a Studio Ghibli film. The story is just so charming. Watching relatable characters with all their issues slowly learning to understand themselves and those around them made me smile and wish for their happiness.
18. The Cat Returns
Title: Neko no Ongaeshi

Theme(s): Adventure, Drama, Fantasy
When shy, Haru Yoshioka saves Prince Lune of the Cat Kingdom from being run over by a truck. She is whisked away to the Cat Kingdom to become Lune’s wife. Prevented from leaving, she will need the help of the cat bureau to get out of her union or become a cat.
The Cat Returns is a side story of the Studio Ghibli film Whisper of the Heart. The film is a comical and sweet tale about a shy girl who is carried off into another land, with touching morals about being oneself. Though let down by some missed opportunities, it remains Studio Ghibli’s funniest film and one with plenty of rewatch value.
17. When Marnie Was There
Title: Omoide no Marnie
Aired: Jul 19, 2014
Theme(s): Drama, Mystery, Psychological
Anna Sasaki is sent to the countryside for health reasons, where she makes an unlikely friend in Marnie, a young girl with flowing blonde hair. As their friendship unravels, these two young girls’ journey of self-discovery and friendships will be a summer that both will remember forever.
This film is an absolutely beautiful movie thanks to its art quality, storytelling, and character development. Though It’s cute, heart-warming, and has a nice warm and fuzzy feel to it, some plot holes and pacing left some questions. It’s a relaxing film that by the climax has you sympathizing with its characters and wishing for their happiness.
16. The Secret World of Arrietty
Title: Karigurashi no Arrietty
Aired: Jul 17, 2010
Theme(s): Fantasy
The Clock family are tiny people living under the house, another family’s residence borrowing from humans to survive. All is well until humans discover their daughter, Arrietty, and must flee.
One of the charming aspects of the movie is, without a doubt, the amount of attention paid to the little details that make the little people so believable. Though the plot is lacking and leaves a deep feeling for me, of wanting more, I would have loved to have followed the family to where a new adventure may await.
Umi Matsuzaki, a 16-year-old girl, provides for her siblings and grandmother, while her mother is away. The monotony of her life changes though after she meets Shun, and together with other students, they try to save their beloved school’s clubhouse. The two discover they may have a lot more in common than either of them think.
Unlike other Studio Ghibli films, From Up on Poppy Hill romanticizes living in this simple world in an oh-so-beautiful way. Making you see the beauty of the world in the typical mundane aspects. Though it would have been nice to have some dragons and other magical creatures. It’s not a bad movie, not by a long shot.
14. Whisper of the Heart
Title: Mimi wo Sumaseba

Theme(s): Drama, Romance, Slice of Life
Shizuku Tsukishima is an energetic 14-year-old girl who enjoys reading and writing poetry in her free time. She becomes determined to work toward a goal after meeting Seiji, a boy who wants to become a master luthier. The two fall in love and work simultaneously towards achieving their independent goals. Guided by the whispers of their hearts.
Though the plot doesn’t go anywhere, so to speak, the strength of the movie is in its characters depicting a very detailed picture of them at different points which can be heartwarming, and heartbreaking, but at all times true to their personalities. Characters’ feelings are easily relatable, understood, and maybe slightly chuckled at by the reminisce of it all.
13. Castle in the Sky
Title: Tenkuu no Shiro Laputa
Aired: Aug 2, 1986
Theme(s): Adventure, Fantasy, Romance, Sci-Fi
In a world filled with planes and airships, young orphans Sheeta and Pazu who have a mysterious crystal amulet, join forces to discover the mystical floating city of Laputa while pursued by the military and pirates, who want the city’s treasures, for their greedy purposes.
It’s a pretty straightforward story that has enough action, beautiful visuals, and mystery to keep almost anyone engaged. Though maybe because of its simplicity, it doesn’t tackle the same mature themes that other films from the studio usually tackle. It’s still a great movie with a heart-pounding adventure story about friendship, loyalty, greed, and people’s connection to nature.
12. Ponyo
Title: Gake no Ue no Ponyo

When Sosuke rescues a goldfish trapped in a bottle. The goldfish turns out to be the daughter of a wizard and goddess, using magic to turn herself into a young girl so that she can be with him. But to let her live on as a human and restore balance to the world, Sousuke must pass an ancient test.
An amazing movie, in terms of visuals, cast, story, and music, with spectacular ocean scenes but the series seems more geared towards children with no main source of villainy, drama, doom, or serious subjects being explored. But you know it’s a good movie when you leave it smiling.
11. Only Yesterday
Title: Omoide Poroporo
Aired: Jul 20, 1991
Theme(s): Drama, Romance, Slice of Life
Independent career woman Taeko Okajima takes a break from the hustle and bustle of the city to visit her family during the annual safflower harvest. On the train, she recalls days from her childhood. And as her vacation progresses, Taeko comes to terms with her childhood dreams and the person she is today.
If the film has any weaknesses, it would be pacing, but apart from that, it is a perfect example of why I keep coming to anime. The movie deals with relatable complex themes we all wonder about as we grow older. It’s a mature and underrated anime film that never fails to draw a smile on my face the whole two hours, thanks to its inspiring and relatable story.
10. Kiki’s Delivery Service
Title: Majo no Takkyuubin
Aired: Jul 29, 1989
Theme(s): Adventure, Comedy, Drama, Fantasy
13-year-old Kiki moves to a seaside town with her talking cat, Jiji, to spend a year alone, under her village’s tradition for witches in training. She sets up a flying courier service and soon becomes a fixture in the community. But when the insecure young witch questions herself and loses her magic abilities, she must overcome her self-doubt to get her powers back.
The plot is very slice-of-life, our number ten spot on this list. The series is a relaxing watch, and its real magic is in giving its viewers the chance to reflect on the smallest moments in daily life and realize that those can be the most enchanting of all, shaping our thoughts and emotions.
9. Grave of the Fireflies
Title: Hotaru no Haka
Aired: Apr 16, 1988
Theme(s): Drama, Historical
In the final days of World War II, 14-year-old Seita and his four-year-old sister Setsuko are orphaned after their mother is killed during an air raid by American forces in Kobe, Japan. After having a falling-out with their aunt, they move into an abandoned bomb shelter. With no surviving relatives and their emergency funds and rations depleted, Seita and Setsuko must struggle to survive their hardships as well as those of their country, which is on the losing end of the war.
Grave of the Fireflies gives you a lot to think about. It’s a film that is very antiwar depicting the struggles and perseverance of the human spirit in the nightmare that is war. Grave of the Fireflies is beautiful, yet at times brutal and horrifying.
In Italy in the 1930s, sky pirates in biplanes terrorize wealthy cruise ships as they sail the Adriatic Sea. The only pilot brave enough to stop the scourge is the mysterious Porco Rosso, a former World War I flying ace who has been cursed to have a pig’s head. As he prepares to battle the pirate crew’s American ace, Porco Rosso enlists the help of spunky girl mechanic Fio Piccolo and his longtime friend Madame Gina.
Porco Rosso is a comedy-drama with sprinkles of romance and slice-of-life. The movie plays with different themes during its runtime and though a great film, its styles, and themes seemed more geared to be accommodating regular moviegoers than just only for anime fans. But these negatives do not make it any less enjoyable, it makes it more easily accessible for people not familiar with Japanese culture.
7. My Neighbor Totoro
Title: Tonari no Totoro

Theme(s): Adventure, Supernatural
When a family moves into an old vacant house in a rural area. Satsuki, the older, responsible girl who takes care of household responsibilities while her mother is sick, and little Mei, a veritable firecracker whose curiosity knows no limits get to go on magical adventures in nature and meet fantastical creatures of the woods.
It’s a heartwarming and whimsical series that every viewer who has watched it loves. The series has no action, is slow-paced, and isn’t full of drama being a movie made to accommodate kids. It has a very detailed world design and a lovable cast of characters.
6. Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind
Title: Kaze no Tani no Nausicaä
Aired: Mar 11, 1984
Theme(s): Adventure, Fantasy
Far in the future, after an apocalyptic conflict has devastated much of the world’s ecosystem, the few surviving humans live in scattered human settlements. Nausicaä is the princess of the Valley of Wind, one of the few untouched human settlements known for its peaceful inhabitants. However, when an airship from the kingdom of Tolmekia crashes in the Valley with its cargo. Nausicaä will have to work even harder to bring peace back to the ravaged planet.
The film has a great storyline with elements of fantasy, action, and imaginative creatures. Its runtime focuses a lot on its character’s growth and shows us more of its world, while also discussing some serious themes. Though if there are any negatives, it’s how convoluted the motives of each different kingdom or nation are.
5. The Tale of the Princess Kaguya
Title: Kaguya-hime no Monogatari
Aired: Nov 23, 2013
Theme(s): Fantasy, Historical
A farmer and his wife find an extremely small girl named Kaguya, inside a bamboo shoot who magically grows up to become a beautiful lady. When the girl is courted by five men who have to face impossible tasks to win her hand. Kaguya’s origins and purpose slowly come to light.
Studio Ghibli’s film is a faithful adaptation of the legendary piece of Japanese literature, “The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter.” Though a touching coming-of-age story with delightful watercolor-like visuals and themes about life’s duality, materialism, and enlightenment, there were some characters I found redundant.
4. The Wind Rises
Title: Kaze Tachinu
Aired: Jul 20, 2013
Theme(s): Drama, Romance, Historical
Unable to pursue his dream of becoming a pilot due to his nearsightedness, Jiro strives hard and draws inspiration from Giovanni Caproni, an Italian aircraft pioneer. But soon he realizes both the role of his creations in the war and the harsh realities of his personal life. Making him a question: At what cost does he chase his beautiful dream?
Though a controversial film, it may just be Miyazaki’s ultimate film, an accumulation of his life’s work pieced together into a masterpiece. Rather than read too much into the premise, enjoy the story for what it is: the life and love of a man who simply loved aircraft.
3. Princess Mononoke
Title: Mononoke Hime

Theme(s): Action, Adventure, Fantasy
Ashitaka is cursed during an animal attack and seeks a cure from the deer-like god Shishigami. In his travels, he sees humans ravaging the earth, crumbling the harmony that humans, animals, and gods have enjoyed. Bring the wrath of wolf god Moro and his human companion Princess Mononoke. He attempts to bring back peace while battling the curse inside of him.
The story of Princess Mononoke is highly thematic, exploring humankind and the negative consequences of deforestation. It depicts the connection between technology and nature while showing the path to harmony that could be achieved by mutual acceptance. Though an amazing film it can be pointed out characters’ motives are not all explained living room to unresolved questions.
2. Howl’s Moving Castle
Title: Howl no Ugoku Shiro
Aired: Nov 20, 2004
Theme(s): Adventure, Drama, Fantasy, Romance
The story is about a girl named Sophie who gets turned into an old woman. In her attempt to return to normal, she ends up living with a wizard named Howl and a group of eccentric companions in his moving castle.
Howl’s Moving Castle is a great steampunk fairy-tale. It is a film that leaves the viewers in awe at the magical world that unfolds in front of us, filled with splendid surroundings, fantastic devices, and creatures. The world introduced here is amazing but that does not explain some plot holes and sudden changes in characters’ behavior.
1. Spirited Away
Title: Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi

Theme(s): Adventure, Drama, Supernatural
The story follows ten-year-old Chihiro’s journey through an unfamiliar world inhabited by supernatural beings. Meeting along the way a unique cast of characters that help her learn to live and work amongst spirits as she strives to save her parents and return home.
The spirit realm Studio Ghibli created feels like watching a dream with its colorful visuals and inhabitants that are cute to strange and weird. There is a lot to see in this beautifully animated world even if the cuisine is a No-No. The plot is paper-thin and characterization is weak, this is not a bad movie, not by a long shot.

I could spend hours and hours talking about Studio Ghibli movies and their many details, and how it’s a visual masterclass in showing what animation can do in terms of building a believable yet fantastic world, how it’s fascinating and so much more. But I know that everyone who has seen a Ghibli film has a fondness for a couple of them.

Fanfiction: fiction written by a fan of, and featuring characters from, a particular TV series, movie, etc.
That’s the definition if you search for it but in my opinion, it’s so much more than that. Writing itself is an escape for so many of us and it gives us an escape. I mean, think about it. When you write, you control the outcomes. You get to teleport yourself into another world of your own making and you choose if you get a happy ending. And, even after everything ends, our writing lives on forever.
On a lighter note though, fanfiction can help improve your love of fandoms. I know of several cases where a show/movie/book didn’t have the type of ending I wanted (looking at you miraculous ladybug season 4) and I wanted to rewrite it. Several others are the same way.
Did you know that Star Trek was the very first known fanfiction and soon others joined in? Pretty cool, huh? Since that happened in 1964, fans everywhere have exploded several fandoms, sharing their ideas and creating some amazing worlds out of fandoms.
Fanfiction can help if you’re a writer as well. Don’t you just love getting to put your favorite characters into so many different types of situations? You can find so many writing prompts to choose from and soon enough, you’ll also have a support group of like-minded people. I still have friends from over 10 years ago that I met through fanfiction(dot)net. Archive of our own seems to be the most popular one now but maybe I’m old-fashioned. I still read from both sites.
That doesn’t mean that fanfiction is all sunshine and roses. Just like reality, fanfiction can sometimes bring out the worst in people. People will harass you, call you names, and criticize your writing in every shape and form.
It’s awful and I will say it again: NO ONE SHOULD BULLY, ENABLE OR ALLOW HARASSMENT OF ANY KIND
It just breaks my heart. I’ve seen so many writers give up and even delete their works, all because of negativity. It’s unfair. Especially when so many of them should be publishing their works as they’re just that good.
And it’s on that note that I would like to shine a spotlight on some fanfic stories if you’re looking for some more recommendations! Y’all know me though, so of course, it’s mostly Miraculous Ladybug, Angels of Death, and Inuyasha. I need more anime even now, haha. I can get obsessed with a series and it’s extremely hard to get out of it.

Both series follow children that are training to become ninjas, though the latter takes a lighter tone, even though both series protagonists have the same goal of being the strongest. Both series also has a large cast of lovable and memorable characters.
Also, with each episode being just 10 minutes long and the plot being episodic it’s an easy entry-level anime to just pick up and watch.

Both series protagonists have similar personalities and mannerisms, with both also losing their parents at a very young age. Both series also have pretty engaging storylines, balancing serious topics, comedy, and the edge of your seat action scenes perfectly.

Similar to Naruto, Slam Dunk infuses the same feelings of amazement, with both series at first not being something you know you need (sounding cheesy) but end up being something you want more of. Both series also have similar main characters, humor, and surprising depth to them.
The third installment continues the adapted Chinese folk story with Sanzou, Gokuu, Hakkai, and Gojou reaching the end of their journey to the west to stop demons from resurrecting Gyumao and restore the balance between humans and demons on Earth. What will they find at the end?
One nice thing about the series is you don’t necessarily have to have watched the previous seasons to be able to understand and follow the plot.

Blue Exorcist is another interesting shounen like Naruto, with similar protagonists that love to help others. Both protagonists live a fairly normal life until they unlock something unnatural in themselves. Both series have characters that are in a group that focuses on keeping the world safe. Both have supernatural themes, relatable characters, and amazing action scenes.
Silent, apathetic, yet mischievous, 14-year-old Miharu Rokujou has a forbidden ninja art called the Shinrabanshou inside him, a skill that gives him the ability to grant wishes. With many ninja clans desiring his ability. Miharu will have to face the underground ninja world, with the help of his fellow ninja club members.

Similar to Naruto, Nabari no Ou’s protagonist also has immense, possibly dark power hidden inside and is also seen as worthless at the beginning. Both series deal with themes of loneliness, conflict, and bonds created between characters.
The story follows Shichika Yasuri, a swordsman that uses his own body like a blade, and his companion the strategist Togame, who has been ordered by the shogunate to retrieve 12 unique swords, and Shinchika smitten by her, helps her on her dangerous mission.

Being an old series, most shounen anime have been heavily influenced by Knights of the Zodiac. We see both series protagonists as no good but slowly come to overcome their shortcomings and earn the respect of their world. Both series also have their characters using the power within them to do battle.
A 14-year-old delinquent Yuusuke Urameshi dies while saving a kid who was going to be run over. Now in the afterlife, Yusuke is a ghost with a mission, performing good deeds and becoming a spirit detective charged with investigating supernatural activities in the world at the behest of Botan, the pacifier-sucking judge of the dead to regain his life.

Both series also have a lovable, relatable, and supporting cast of characters that help the protagonist along.

Both protagonists are sacrificed at a young age for the betterment of others. Everyone sees both series protagonists as no good, but are quite capable. Both also see their main character befriending an otherworldly being.

Both series have a lot to offer from supernatural powers, amazing fights scenes, well-developed and lovable characters, and voyages to new and exciting places. Both series have a similar vibe that just keeps you invested in seeing where the characters’ stories end.

Similarity
Both series are shounen, having battles that are more tactically focused, with both being able to keep the audience on the edge of their seats, and having cool characters with ridiculous but creative powers.
1. Black Clover

Two orphan children, Asta and Yuno are left as babies near the doorstep of a church on the outside border of the Clover Kingdom. The story follows Asta mostly, a young boy who’s born without magical powers, while he tries to gain magical powers and the talent to control them. We watch him go from laughingstock to the literal savior of the kingdom.
Similarity
Black Clover, like Naruto, has a similar fantasy world full of magic or chakra. Both protagonists have a similar physical build, with both series characters being in a sort of military unit made to protect the people. Both series have themes of rivalry between friends, fan service, comedy, action, and surprisingly deep emotional moments.

Miraculous Ladybug season 4 spoilers if you haven’t already seen it!
Okay, so I just finished watching season 4 (except for part two of Risk as it’s being released in 2 days at the time of writing this article) and I have a LOT of feelings regarding this. For the past 2 days, I’ve been in a weird fandom mood where my heart is broken and a ton of emotions. It was similar to when I watched Chat Blanc. I couldn’t watch any more for almost a week. One of the perks of being in a fandom, I think. I know that Adrien and Marinette are endgame but Luka Couffeine is such a strong and wonderful character. Sometimes I think he might be better for Marinette since he can bring calmness in her life while she’s stressed and the weight of so many responsibilities are on her shoulders (at 14!).
I love Adrien. He’s a pure sunshine child and also deserves happiness. But I think about how Chat Noir is who he truly wants to be and how he’s more active, spontaneous, and adventurous. While Marinette is also those things, I think she needs someone to help calm her down when she can’t handle all the stress she has in her life and when her anxiety makes her overthink everything.
The episode where Luka is so sad and says that Marinette is avoiding him since she knows he’s still in love with her…oh my heart. I cried. I wanted someone to hug him. Why can’t he just be happy? Marinette felt like a jerk because let’s be honest. Having pictures of your ex-crush when you are dating somebody shows that she doesn’t care about her relationship with Luka and she was with him cause he cared for her and she was trying to get over Adrien. A rebound is never the answer. I think Luka deserved better in that regard even though I think he and Marinette could be a great couple.
Why didn’t he tell her he knew and who does he end up with?
Also, I don’t know why he didn’t tell her that he knew she was Ladybug during Wishmaker. In my opinion, if he tells her, that will be a big relief for her since she won’t have to hide her secret. And I think that Luka would be understanding during their dates and they’ll just pick up where they left off. Is it because he thinks she’s in love with Adrien and just wants her to be happy?
There’s been speculation that he’ll end up with Zoe but I haven’t seen enough interaction to see that yet. They’re both creative so they’ll have that in common. Also, Chloe even said Luka was cute in the season 3 episode Miracle Queen. Though I don’t think it’ll be Chloe. Thomas Astruc has even said that some characters just don’t get a redemption arc when he replied to a fan asking about Chloe. So maybe it’ll be one of them?
Miraculous Ladybug Season 4: Gabriel Agreste
Okay and now on to the world’s biggest jerk in animated history. Okay, maybe not the BIGGEST but at least top 5. We’ve seen in Oblivio and now in season 4 that anytime Adrien finds out, his father also finds out and uses it to his advantage. Uses his SON! He’s the reason that they can’t find happiness. And I want someone to punch him in the face.
That man deserves no redemption arc. And I know I’m not the only one who thinks so. So many fans have mentioned this. The man’s neglected his son, he’s terrorized PARIS, and for what? Because he’s obsessed with his wife? No, he doesn’t love his son. He wouldn’t want him to die, but as we saw in Chat Blanc and Ephemeral if he has the option to emotionally manipulate the poor boy, he will. And Natalie has no problem with doing it as well.
Natalie isn’t the best either…
I’m not sure about her. She’s in love with Gabriel Agreste but why? Doesn’t she know that Gabriel will choose Emilie over her if they do recover her? I know people do crazy things for love but they both take it too far.
Finally, we have the most ridiculous part of all. He’s willing to single-handedly KILL and TERRORIZE just to reach his goal. So many times people were turned to statues or killed in some way or almost killed. Sure Ladybug’s cure could fix it but that’s not Gabriel’s goal. He doesn’t WANT Ladybug to fix everything after she uses her Lucky Charm. Would the akumitized people stay the same or would he use them in different ways?
Not to mention, the wish to bring back his wife literally ends and rewrites the universe. I kinda wish Noroo would explain this to him but maybe he has tried and couldn’t get a word in, or possibly he doesn’t know? Though I don’t think it’s the latter since all the rest of the kwami’s knew about it. It seems likely that if history rewrites itself, Gabriel Agreste will die as well. When will the time period restart? To the beginning? The start of Gabriel’s life since he would be the one to make the wish? There are several possibilities and if that happens, life possibly won’t turn out the same, and he and Emilie might not even meet or have Adrien.
Final Thoughts on Miraculous Ladybug Season 4
What are your thoughts on Miraculous Ladybug season 4? There’s been up to 7 seasons with episodes to be announced but no official dates for them. I’m curious and excited about the other seasons, but also a little hesitant to see our lovelies get hurt. I still hate Gabriel Agreste and hope someone does punch him in the face. And I want everyone to get a happy ending. Except for Gabriel. He can rot in jail while Adrien does better without him. Also, another thought. Do you think the writers will confirm WHY Adrien and Marinette are meant for each other? They’re both written very well but in reality, anyone can be meant for someone. It takes so much work for any relationship. But maybe because it’s not reality that they have just one person who is THEIR person and that’s it. No deeper meaning.

Anime like Dune? Dune is one of the great masterpieces of sci-fi literature… and we’ve all remembered that after Dune (2021 film), with its epic planets, political machinations, and heroes with bizarre powers. In Japan a thousand years from the present, there is a utopia where a portion of the population has a special power called psychokinesis. From the beginning, we follow a group of five children as they grow up in this new world and see how they develop within a community bounded by strict rules and deal with the decisions they make that alter the course of their lives and the entire society they live in.

Similar to Dune, From the New World is a coming-of-age story about changes and growing up, truths and lies. Both series have a supernatural feel to them, with both having a feeling of a hidden deep story that is unraveled as you go. Both plots also involve traveling to new environments and learning new things about the world.

Kaiba like Dune too has a similar storytelling style with both protagonists going on journeys to weird and wonderful places and quickly getting involved in other people’s lives. Both series are character-driven, about self-discovery, sci-fi themes, and emotional.
Vash the Stampede is a legendary gunslinger with a large bounty on his head partly due to the way he leaves a path of destruction in his wake wherever he travels. Because of this rampant devastation, the Bernardelli Insurance Society tasks Meryl Stryfe and Milly Thompson to find Vash to evaluate insurance claims and attempt to minimize the damage. The story follows these characters across a desert wasteland as it quickly becomes apparent that Vash is more than a simple outlaw.

At number four is Trigun, a series similar to Dune, with both protagonists losing loved ones to their enemy, and wandering a dystopian wasteland and desert. Manga similar to Berserk? Berserk is one of the most popular manga to ever come out of Japan that has been repeatedly adapted into an anime to different degrees of success. Written by the late Kentaro Miura, it tells a brutal dark fantasy story about a swordsman on a journey of revenge against dark forces and a close friend that betrayed him.
While I don’t think there is any manga that can ever give a similar feel or vibe to the late Kentaro Miura’s Berserk, we do need to still feel the void left now, with the uncertain continuation of the popular manga series. Berserk is a manga series I think any fan of manga has been recommended by a friend to read at least once, and I loved reading each chapter, even the slow-paced ones that made the characters feel more real to me.

Both series have a plot that covers a lot of things, they both never feel stagnant, with both keeping a good pace. No moment is wasted as everything has a point either narratively, to be funny, or a combination of both.

The KKK, a terrible group headed by half-vampire half-werewolf demons that eat humans, killed former heavyweight boxer Victor Freeman’s father when he was little. Similar to Berserk, Blaster Knuckle follows the lone hero, who’s out for revenge against demons. Both series are great, gory, and entertaining. If you loved Berserk, you’ll definitely like Blaster Knuckle. It’s an adrenaline-filled time killer.
In Jushin, Munsu, a secret government agent, was a special envoy of the king of Jushin. Is tasked with traveling the countryside in disguise to find and punish corrupt government officials, and bringing justice to the country’s citizens. However, Jushin is all but destroyed, leaving Munsu on his journey to continue his duty of ridding corruption and bringing about his own form of justice.

Blade of the Phantom Master is another series that bears a strong resemblance to Berserk, feeling like a relative of Berserk, with both main characters being branded with a ‘curse’, similar motivations for vengeance, a similar friend turned villain themes, and both having beautifully drawn scenes. Another manga similar to Berserk is Battle Angel Alita. Both series examine questions of identity, human nature, hardship, and war just with cyborgs thrown in instead of monsters. Both series can be gory, emotional and follow similarly unfortunate protagonists whose troubles seem to go from bad to worse, with great character development throughout.
Blade of the Immortal centers around the young Rin Asano’s journey to avenge the death of her parents at the hands of a sword school whose influence has grown within Japan: the Itto-Ryu. Unable to deny her powerlessness in the face of her powerful foe, she seeks out the skills of a swordsman who has been cursed with immortality, Manji. Blade of the Immortal taps into the same level of brutality and similar atmosphere that’s present in Berserk. Both series have an anti-hero, beautiful characters, and a great story. Throughout both series, we see the relationship between the characters change and develop in an interesting way that keeps you glued for more.

Like Berserk, Helck has the same medieval fantasy setting, with a stronger than usual men hero with a sad backstory. Both protagonists travel with a bunch of relatable and lovable characters trying to make amends with their pasts also. Though Helck is more light-hearted and comedic plot-wise, unlike Berserk that is more on the somber and depressing side.
Devilman starts with our protagonist, Akira Fudou who lends a helping hand to his best friend Ryou Asuka. But events occur and Akira is aware of the existence of demons. With demons out to conquer the world, and a demon inside him that transforms him into Devilman. Will Akira be able to keep the world and his family safe?
Similarity
Another similar manga to Berserk is Devilman with both series having supernatural themes. Both series look at friendship, corruption, betrayal, what humanity is, and the brutality of war. Similarity
Number 4 on our list of similar manga like Berserk is Kingdom. Both series’ worlds are constantly at war, and our protagonists must fight to obtain their goals. The kingdom is also a serious manga with a lot of moral choices for our protagonist to make just like Berserk. The kingdom is a phenomenal manga that is memorable and well-written.
3. Vinland Saga

Set in 11th century Europe, Vinland Saga tells a bloody epic in an era where violence, madness, and injustice are inescapable, providing a paradise for the battle-crazed and utter hell for the rest who live in it. The story follows Thorfinn’s quest to avenge his father’s death by defeating Askeladd (his father’s murderer) in a fair duel, he plans to accomplish this by working for him and doing whatever Askelad asks, and in return, he is granted a chance to kill him. The story however is not just focused on Thorfinn more focus is given to the other members of the cast like Askeladd and other historical figures such as Thorkell and Canute and their participation during the conflict of the era.
Similarity
Similar to the manga Berserk, Vinland Saga has intense action scenes, a large cast of complex characters, and interesting flashbacks. There are a lot of similarities with our protagonists in their early years, both being part of a mercenary group and getting full respect from the leader who gives them the most important missions. It also talks about childhood innocence, murder, sorrow, revenge, emptiness, redemption, and aspiration.
Vagabond follows the exploits of Shinmen Takezo, who would eventually become the legendary sword-saint Miyamoto Musashi, and his childhood friend, Matahachi Honiden. The two begin the story as very different people, to begin with, both swear to become Invincible Under The Heavens, and their inherently different natures set them off on completely different life paths. Though based on a famous novel by Eiji Yoshikawa, it diverges from it in numerous ways to the point that it can stand on its own quite comfortably.
Similarity
Similar to Berserk, Vagabond has beautifully drawn scenes, awesome fight scenes, complex and mature themes, and amazingly done character growth. Both series have a memorable blend of flashbacks, flashforwards, and glimpses into the lives of others besides the main character. Both series have a way of leaving the reader pondering about what they’ve read for a long time after the manga has been put down.

The main focus of the story centers around an organization known as Claymore, that fights monsters known as Yoma. Clare, a member of the organization, is on a journey of vengeance, encountering different things on her journey and learning the sinister truth behind the Claymore Organization.
Similarity
Taking our last spot of manga series similar to Berserk is Claymore. Both series have an eerie atmosphere to them, with dark, mysterious, and tragic themes. Like Berserk, Claymore is a well-thought-out and compelling fantasy with well-drawn scenes, lovable and relatable characters, and amazing fight scenes. It’s a manga series I recommend every Berserk fan and new manga enthusiast should give a try.

Okay, to start, I don’t HATE video games. I just don’t like almost any of them except divinity, mario party and super smash bros. I have a hard time focusing so most games are not enough to hold my interest for more than a few minutes but Divinity has been amazing!
Divinity Original Sin is a kickstarter that many people backed and turned out amazing. It went so far that they made an Enhanced Edition and than a Divinity Original Sin 2.
So, it was made by Larian Studios who is a Belgian video game developer team. It focuses on developing role-playing video games and has previously worked on educational games and a number of casino games. It’s best known for developing the Divinity series and Baldur’s Gate.
This review is about the Enhanced Edition, specifically.
Divinity Story
Basically you’re what’s called “a Source Hunter” and you’ve been sent to a small town to find out why a guy was murdered. You can play in Classic, Explorer, Tactician or Honor mode (which I hear is the hardest). My first play through was explorer and my second has been classic.
Each group or team has 2-4 party members. You can do what’s called a Lone Wolf so it’s just you and one other person, or you can have other characters join you who have their own skills and backstory already added. Personally, I always go with Jahan and Bairdotr. I tried Madora but just didn’t like her skills that much. Lone wolf might be too hard on a beginner but it’s up to you how you play.
Throughout the game, the Source Hunters occasionally encounter magical crystals known as “Star Stones”. Upon finding the first one, they are transported to the “Homestead”, a mysterious fortress outside of regular spacetime that is immediately familiar to both of them. As they recover more Star Stones, they learn that the Source had originally been a magic associated with Astarte, the goddess of life, before it was corrupted by the Void, an evil force from outside of the material world.
The best part of this game is that you can choose how you play it. Want to only focus on the main story line? Go for it! Want to kill everyone in sight? Do it! It’s very open sourced and there are many different outcomes.
Party Build
There’s so many ways to build your team. My personal favorite is a scoundrel with ranger abilities and masters in geomancer and a geo/pyro mage. I then get Jahan who has hydro/aero attacks and Bairdotr who is a ranger that I add witchcraft to. That way I have a master in all the elements without wasting many points. Oil plus fire, water plus electricity and backstabbing with summoning an undead warrior are some of my favorites. You can choose whoever you want and near level 13-14, you can even re-do your two main characters. If you do that though, you’ll have to rebuy all the skillbooks which can cost money.
I also love that this game is turned based. Turn order is defined by initiative. One main problem I have with so many games is that I don’t have time to think and plan. Just have to rush in and hope for the best. With Divinity, I can plan and not stress as much. It’s good for someone like me who has trouble focusing.
Random Stuff I Thought was Funny or Helpful
VICTORIA!!!!! Okay, I hated this guy(elf actually) named Eglandaer. He’s obsessed with killing this Orc named Victoria and just keeps screaming her name while standing in his room. I know there’s a way to get him in jail but my second play through, I just kill him. You get xp anyway and don’t have to listen to him yammer.
If you do all the quests, you’ll reach level 21 before the end of the game.
I’ve read online that you could maximize your XP and get up to level 23, but I doubt it’s possible anymore in the Enhanced Edition. I’ve completed every single quests and barely made it to level 22 by killing the last boss, at which point another level doesn’t matter… You might be able to get to level 22, but I would recommend you plan your builds around level 21 just to be sure.
At level 21 you’ll have access to:
15 attribute points
52 ability points (69 with Lone Wolf talent)
7 talent points
Weapons
You don’t have to invest in any of the weapon abilities to use any type of weapon. You can chose whatever weapon floats your boat and you’ll be able to use it with any character. I have my mages uses staffs and my other two switch from crossbows and daggers/swords. Both scoundrel and ranger uses dexterity so I don’t have to waste attribute points with that.
Dual Wielding only affects basic attacks with your weapons, it doesn’t affect the use of your skills.
Single-handed doesn’t stack with Dual Wielding. If you invest here, you must use a single-handed weapon with a shield, no dual wielding otherwise you’re wasting precious ability points.
Wands do stack with Dual Wielding. Not sure if it’s an oversight or not, but at least they do less damage than single-handed weapons so it somewhat balance itself out. This is a very powerful combination if you want to go that route.
Defense
Armour Specialist is only useful if you plan on using heavy armors.
Body Building is very useful on harder difficulties, not so much for Normal or lower.
Shield Specialist is only useful if you plan on using a shield.
Willpower is very useful on all difficulties. The harder the difficulty, the earlier you’ll need to invest in this one.
Skills are categorized by tiers (Novice, Adept, Master) and their related Ability level unlock how many skills you can learn for each tiers. At any time, you can forget a skill to make room for a new one. All you need to do is go to the skill interface and click on the “forget” button beside the skill you want to remove
Crafting is an absolute must as it will be your biggest source of income. Crafting level 5 is required and can be achieved by a combination of equipment, the Scientist talent and ability points (1 or 2, if needed). Only 1 character needs Crafting. I usually go with Jahan since he has the scientist ability already. Crafting is helpful since you can craft items to help hp, strength, constitution and even elemental resistance.
For instance, you can combine a pumpkin with a knife to give you a pumpkin hat that has fire resistance and can cause fear (enemies will flee). Personally, this one makes me laugh and I always have at least one party member wear it.
To sum it up, I think Polygon said it best when they said DIVINITY: ORIGINAL SIN REVIEW: NEXT TO GODLINESS. I highly recommend Divinity to anyone who already loves gaming or someone who just wants to dip their toes in.
